Our review is as follows: For being called Wienerlicious, the hot dogs were hugely lacking if at best. Good flavor, but lost in the buns (we had an all beef, Chicago, coney, and a Reuben). The milkshake was also to be desired not being made out of ice cream, but ice milk. The amount that was spent on these five items and the product quality was very poor. If you like hot dogs, then this is worth a stop. The only risk is that you might wreck your car staring at the gargantuan hot dog on the roof. Stepping inside, it does have a 50s diner vibe with stainless steel counters and bar stools. There are a variety of different dogs to try. I really wish I had tried one of the sausages, but I decided on the Reuben Dog because...well, I like a good Reuben. This was not a good Reuben. The dog was topped with a pile of good sauerkraut. It was billed as having Swiss cheese, like a Reuben is supposed to have, but there was none. There was a drizzle of 1000 island dressing on the top, but it wasn't noticeable in the taste. Most disappointing was the dog itself. It was the average blended type dog, the type you may have tried at a cafeteria. Even smothered with sauerkraut, there's no getting around the averageness of the dog. I got waffle fries as a side. They weren't bad, except that they weren't fresh. They were a bit soggy, but the seasoning was good. The order was served up quickly, and the cashier was friendly enough. But, I'm not sure if that's enough to make me want to order from them again. But, that massive hot dog on the roof? That will be a fixture in every trip up this way from now on. read more

We stopped here because it was a short walk from our motel and had the veggie dog. We did only notice it from the giant hotdog on the roof. Prices are a lot higher than I saw online. One veggie dog was 4.99! I think we spent $45 for two people. You pay extra for chili and cheese and they put the smallest amount of cheese I've ever seen. Waffle fries were old. It was mediocre and not worth the price. Also don't tip, they still give you old food. This is an order and wait for your order number to be called establishment. We made an impromptu stop on our way in to town as my husband is a chili dog fan. Just as other reviews state, it was expensive and unfortunately we arrived as a small crowd did as well. No one was in a hurry behind the counter like you would expect. We got chili cheese frys and regular and I think they were the best thing we got. I heard I had to get a hot dog when in MI, so where better to go than someplace called Wienerlicious?! I ordered their veggie dog (thank you for the vegetation option!) with cheese and sautéed onions and peppers, as well as a small side of their heavily breaded waffle fries. The fries tasted similar to Arby's curly fries - so pretty good, and the small option was more than enough. The veggie dog was very small, so it was mainly the bread and toppings. The sautéed veggies on top were very cold and made it unappetizing. I would definitely recommend getting the cheese though, as it melted perfectly onto the dog. The bun did fall apart right away so I went and found a fork to pick at it with. This restaurant is very well known for the "World's Largest Roof Top Wiener" which can be seen before crossing over the Mighty Mackinaw Bridge, North on I-75. It's a true classic, old time (1916) quality and a MUST "craving stop" when entering Mackinaw City. They serve a delicious true "Snap Koegel's" winner of a wiener that is Wienerlicious ! And don't forget those seasoned Waffle Fries. Arriving in the city of Mackinaw on Sunday October 20, 2019 for a few days, we decided to finally, yes finally try this famous and authentic "hot spot". Upon walking up to the doors I noticed several picnic tables for outdoor seating and eating during warmer days. The umbrellas were already packed away for the seasons end and the sign on the door noted their closing date, the last Sunday of October. Therefore was our perfect 1st time to enjoy and experience this landmark spot! We were greeted with a smile from Debbie the manager who welcomed us with our 1st visit and dining experience. She did inform us that they grill hamburgers but they were not serving them since they were closing the building in a few days. They also blend chocolate or vanilla milkshakes but the machines were already gone for the closing/ winter season. The wall menu gives a customer many choices of signature dogs such as a Coney Dog (Foot Long too), Reuben Dog, The Chicago Dog, Spicy Italian, Bratwurst and their famous The Mackinaw. You can also order many toppings as well besides the usual 2 table condiments waiting.(Mustard & Ketchup). What caught my eye and taste buds was the Bacon wrapped cheese hot dog which I ordered and seasoned crispy waffle fries. (Photo attached of course). It had that "Snap" and was crispy Wienerlicious ! (Should of ordered 2) :0 Also ordered was the Chili dog and chili cheese fries which was loaded with flavor and was very filling plus satisfying as well! See photo too. Note: If a "Guest" wishes a plain hot dog that does NOT snap..ask for it. It was very nice to chat with Debbie the manager after our early evening meal ended about her fun summertime job here. Next is the sadness of packing up the business for the cold winter months ahead. She said she was looking forward to the warmer temperature and relaxing down in Florida. This is what most of the business owners do in Mackinaw City when the season of winter arrives along with the lake affects of cold and wind here. This place was very clean from the tables to the floors. Upbeat 80's music was playing in the background to hear. The beverage area was plenty and also a free refill on our way out. I felt the prices are reasonable for the special handmade creations. A few other dining customers were also enjoying their meals when we were leaving. I can't wait to stop back in here next Summer 2020 and try a different classic hot dog choice. I would recommend and give this business a try in the Spring, Summer or Fall when vacationing in Mackinaw City or when driving by. I wanted to give it 5 stars but since it was my 1st visit, I'll stay with the 4 stars. Then come back next year to eat, enjoy and move up to 5 stars with another Wienerlicious meal and review ! Kids and I HAD to eat at Wienerlicious. We ordered two regular hotdogs, two bunless hotdogs, a bratwurst, an Italian sausage, three medium fries, and three small drinks. The cost was almost $45. All of the food was delicious, but the buns were a bit dry and underwhelming. We went back up for cheese sauce and they let us have it for free. Very kind of them as they didn't have to "give" it to us. They should add a couple 2 hotdog options, or add a hotdog option to the menu. The spicy Italian with peppers was good, not spicy at all to me, good flavor, the onions and peppers were well seasoned. Such a simple place, they do one thing and they do it sooo well. I had a simple hot dog that I dressed myself with onion and mustard and it was perfection. I excitedly pointed out the window at this place whenever we drove through Mackinaw City! The gigantic hotdog on the roof is hard to miss! My husband always gave me the same reply "You don't even like hot dogs!" This year, he changed his tune, and I screamed with joy as he pulled into the Wienerlicious parking lot. I stared through the windshield at the giant hotdog, Jodie Foster's immortal line from contact echoing through my head "It's so beautiful, they should have sent a poet!" One of my great fascinations in life is roadside attractions and "experience architecture" (think themed Vegas hotels or the now defunct Fry's electronics stores.) I couldn't wait to get inside! The decor is a delightful throw back to the diners of the 1950's. The crisp read and white motif makes for the perfect backdrop to get wienered in! As mentioned before, I'm not crazy about hot dogs. My family and I visited Wienerlicious on 8/17/24. They only serve Koegel hotdogs. Which is great because that is only hot dog we eat!! We are Michiganders IYKYK!!
