I was recently in Acadiana for the sole purpose of visiting as many places as possible to eat their…read moreboudin. It's one of my favorite foods on Earth and this place was on my shortlist of places to try. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fit it into my itinerary since it's rather far from Lafayette where I was staying, so I decided I would take the chance to order their boudin online after arriving back home in the Midwest. I have no doubt that their boudin is probably outstanding. I say "probably" because I didn't get the chance to try it after my order arrived at my door. The product arrived at room temperature during a 3-day transit time, so it was completely unsafe for human consumption. So I went and contacted them, and they were steadfast in their refusal to offer me any refunds or sincere apology for flushing $130 down the toilet. They have a warning about using ground shipping on their website due to "ongoing extreme heat". Well guess what? This warning is only on the front page of their website, and when making my order I went directly to their boudin page (via googling "Tboys Boudin", then clicking "Boudin") which doesn't have the warning. I saw no other warnings related to shipping complications other than refunds not being offered for late shipments for 2nd day air due to weather. My shipment arrived on time, so this is not the fault of the carrier. Whatever their excuse is, I have ordered other perishable food online including boudin from so many other places in the area and have NEVER had issues with my shipments not arriving cold or frozen, regardless of "extreme heat". So what gives? Well, it turns out this establishment DOESN'T USE DRY ICE IN THEIR SHIPMENTS OF PERISHABLE ITEMS, so it's no wonder my shipment arrived at room temp. Somehow it was on me to be aware of this when ordering since they mentioned they use "ice packs". So in their words, they only recommend ordering any perishable items from them using overnight delivery, and that is just impractically expensive for most people. Their boudin might very well be the best in Acadiana for all I know, but in the end I am very sad that I won't get to try it and wish this business would treat its customers better in these situations instead of assuming I might be trying to just make stuff up just to fleece them for a measly 10lb of boudin from them. If they are going to refuse to pack their perishable items properly with dry ice like virtually everyone else, they should at least do a much better job of warning customers about issues instead of leaving them on one page that people might miss, or better yet just not allowing ground shipping as an option at all for perishable items shipped to any location further than a few hundred miles. I really don't like leaving 1 star reviews, but after spending so much money and feeling so deflated over this, I have been left with no other recourse but to warn others who might be interested in their product that aren't locals.

The Superette - Excellent boudin. If you get it cut, it's a mess.

I took the Route 411 exit and headed towards Frogmore to catch Highway 190 through the heart of Cajun Country - there is so much to see and memories to reflect upon traveling this historic route, to most it might seem somewhat boring but the sugar cane, rice fields and crawfish farms are beautiful in my eyes. This part of Louisiana still has my heart and still represents the culture I still cherish and is home to the people I love. The scenic drive across the Atchafalaya River at Krotz Springs through Opelousas brings you to Eunice a community built on tradition where contracts are still sealed with a handshake and you always get greeted with a hug and a kiss. It would be impossible for me to drive through here without stopping for some boudin or cracklins so where better to go get some authentic Cajun cuisine than at the Eunice Superette on a Saturday morning. This place never disappoints the delicious smells of something cooking in the back surrounds you as you walk through the doors and that all familiar sound of that glorious Cajun Music piped throughout the store makes it impossible not to smile and puts a little two step in your gait. Taking a tour of the meat case is a tour you'll likely never forget, most of the offering are seasoned, stuffed and smoked and the aromas permeates the glass case it seems. The meats here are butchered locally with great care, the cuts are traditional and not something you'll find at most retail groceries outlets. Today my interest is in the fresh hot cracklins a little snack for the road - this uniformly chopped pork belly is like nothing else on the planet the fat is rendered down until the finish product is crispy then covered in a spicy cajun seasoning and placed in a small brown paper sack its absolutely delicious- my dad made these at home long before they became a delicacy fetching twenty dollars a pound. The staff here was so friendly and probably family, always providing more than you'd ever expect and always a greeting with a big smile and a goodbye with a "take care now". There are somethings you hope will never change and this is one of those treasures that still feels like it did when I was a kid. This is what a hometown business should feel like...
