She gave detailed personalize instructions, working with us individually to draw our specific pets and mixing paint for our specific pet colors. Teller Street Gallery is a hidden (or not so hidden?) gem! It is conveniently located in Wheat Ridge near some great pubs and restaurants, so you can make a night (or lunch date) out of it if you'd like. Parking is fairly simple- there is a small lot in the back and an abundance of street parking in the vicinity. But... that's not why I keep coming back here. The instructors are engaging, helpful, and provide the right amount of support to their students while also making space for some creative freedom. I have made some great pieces here that frequently get compliments from people who come over to my house, and I am NOT a naturally artistic person, to say the least. OH- and the wine with the painting classes is a great touch. They are generous with their pours and have been known to give a free refill during a less busy class. I originally came here based on some Groupons (for both painting and pottery classes), but will be back again and again whenever I need some new art or pottery to liven up my shelves and walls at home. The price is reasonable, with or without a deal. So glad to have this place in North Denver/Wheat Ridge! read more

I went to Teller Street for one of their painting classes a couple weeks ago. I have never been artistic and came in with a fair bit of apprehension. I'd been told that these paintings always turned out well regardless of your skill level, but I was sure I would be the exception to that rule. After a few minutes of painting, I realized my worries had been for naught. The instructor had a nice balance of teaching and allowing us to use our own creativity. She gave basic instructions and then offered her individual help to anyone who felt they needed extra guidance. The prices are reasonable (about 30 dollars), a bit cheaper than Canvas and Cocktail or Sip and Paint. I used a Groupon-like coupon for half-price. When we paid, they also gave us a card for 10% off our next visit. Overall a good experience. If I were to give any constructive feedback, it would be on the setup of the studio. I sat towards the front of the studio, but being vertically-challenged, I found it difficult to see what the instructor was doing at times. She worked from a platform, but it wasn't high enough for all to see, especially those in the back row. Very small gallery - went for an art reception. But because of all the items for sale and other paintings about, it was very distracting to see the main artist's work. Also, many of the pieces were crammed in and hung high up, so the light reflected off the paint, making it difficult to see the art. I really wish it was at eye level and better lit so you can appreciate each item. However, it sounds more like this is a place to paint in classes, rather than see an art show. I'd likely not reserve this space if I wanted to exhibit my art, but I'd totally go for a class. read more

I just have to share how much of a FUN and RELAXING time Cliff and I had at the Teller Street Gallery & Studios wine-and-paint earlier this week. You don't have to know how to paint and all the supplies are provided, plus a beverage to help you feel comfortable. Emilie Mitcham is a tactful and effective teacher and Joe is a welcoming host. Almost like candy on a cake, while you're there, instead of watching the paint dry, you get to wander around the gallery which is bursting with gorgeous, interesting, thought-provoking, charming art for every taste and budget. I really enjoyed my class here. I've done similar classes in other locations, but this one was truly unique. I loved their selection of alcohol, I know my girlfriends are fond of wine but it was awesome to also have a small selection of seasonal (and local!) beers for me as well. It's a better option for groups of painters with varying skill level as well. It was a small class and everyone seemed to have either a variation of the main painting, or something completely different, and the instructor was free to provide help to all of these. read more

Went to a painting and wine class with 3 friends. They have different painting themes each night, so definitely check out their schedule to choose which one you would like to paint the most. We chose to paint the Denver city skyline. It was a lot if fun! An apron, paint, canvas, and brushes are supplied. The instructor was lively and fun. He walked you though how to go about painting each section step by step. So even first time painters end up with an awesome finished product! You are also encouraged to be creative and change or add whatever you want to your painting. For instance i chose to paint a planet with rings around it and a shooting star in my sky instead of just a regular moon and stars. All 4 of us had an awesome time! I bought a living social $15 wine and painting class, it was soo much fun. I cant wait to go back. Very cool place.

Unfortunately so much has changed since my January post. The canvases have shrunk considerably, the paint has changed and is very difficult to work with. And there is no longer a free drink. $25 was a great deal but rather than reduce the quality of what made this place so great I really wish they had just considered raising their prices. read more

I had a hard time deciding between 3-4 stars - I'd give them a 3.5 if I could. My husband and I decided to do something fun for our 4th Anniversary - so we did the "Wheel U Try" class for an introduction to Pottery. The place is very open and artsy-craftsy feeling, we were the only ones there at noon on a Friday for a class, so the class was personal informative; and our teacher was very nice and polite. It only took about 50 minutes, from walk in to walk out, to take the class and mold our own bowls, view their glaze options and other artwork and look forward to coming back. I enjoyed the class and would love to come back to take more extensive classes as I really liked working with clay and a wheel. My husband enjoyed it for the most part, however, he is a very artistic person, and thus is also very particular with what he creates. He felt rushed, and became irritated because he messed up his Chili style bowl, and had really wanted to fix it and start over, but the teacher didn't seem to want to take the time to help him do this (even though we had 25 minutes of the hour left and were the only ones there) - so he kind of blew it off and made him keep his bowl the way it was. In the moment, I thought his bowl looked alright and didn't realize he felt so strongly about it and had told the instructor he wanted to fix it (I was working on not screwing mine up lol). Otherwise we would have redone the whole bowl. I think the general class is good for a group of people not looking to get too technical with the wheel and just wants to try something new- but for a serious artistic person that wants to potentially make their own dinnerware I would try a different class or try elsewhere. I get the intro class needs to be somewhat standardized for everyone to get the same or close to the same experience, but I wish they were a little more flexible with it when there's only two people in a class. Also, I think for what you get their pricing is just a little steep. $30 for an hour class and you get a bowl is OK, but having to drop another couple hundred bucks to take a course of 3-4 classes instead of being able to take one class here and there kind of sucks. read more

Really great place! We did vino and painting night and had a blast! There was a good amount of instruction, then we were set free to be creative. The instructor was around the whole time to help if needed, and I never felt like I was lost or confused. They have a fairly good bar selection at cheap prices. The best thing is that it is a longer class, so you have time to really get into it. I even took more time and was starting to panic that I wouldn't finish and the instructors just told me that I had plenty of time and let me stay late to finish. I would recommend this to anyone of any skill level! read more

I've been to a few "paint and sip" experiences and this was the best by far! Our instructor, Kiefer, was friendly and knowledgeable. He knew just how to offer encouragement and suggestions while never taking ownership of our work. The studio is charming and comfortable. It feels like the "Cheers" of painting! Highly recommend! The ladies who run this gallery are amazing! My friends set up a paint the nursery party for me and the artist met with me and made a sketch of a picture I had in mind for the nursery. She then sent it to me for review prior to the party and the final rendition was exactly what I had been envisioning. On the day of the party the ladies had an overhead sketch of the drawing and they were so accommodating and helped my friends and I create the perfect painting for the nursery wall. It was a fun atmosphere and my friends and I had a great time! I highly recommend this space for your next event. read more

We took a family class for my niece's seventh birthday party. She wants to be an artist when she grows up, so this was the perfect class! She and her friends had the best time. The instructor encouraged the girls and also played games with them when they were done while the adults tried to finish their paintings. The class was inexpensive and fabulous! read more

I have been a patron at Teller Street several times with friends and I love to take my grandson on "Family Night." With warm welcoming smiles we feel at home. My 5 year old grandson looks forward to painting with his grandma. He knows the staff by name, he sits on the stool and mingles with the owner and drinks Izzy's, eats up the cheesy pretzels and paints with confidence because his individual creativity is encouraged by the instructor and staff. Whenever we need help Nicole is near to give us good advice. She really has a knack with working with the kids and I like that she walks around to see how everyone is coming along. She even has the kids help her paint on her instructional canvas. I love the other art instructors too! Teller Street has a cozy relaxed, atmosphere coupled with a glass of wine or cup of tea and the comradery, by the end of the evening, any tension I had from a busy day, is gone. What I also admire about this quaint, family owned business is how much the owner contributes to the community with fundraisers. My husband surprised me with a painting and wine valentines day date night. Though I didn't necessarily like the painting we were to do that night (a vase with flowers), it was a great time and we both had fun - people were friendly telling you your painting looked good (even if it didn't in your own mind) to not get you more frustrated. The final products, turned out well, actually. Bottom line, it's definitely a fun activity and the atmosphere was good as well. I recommend! read more

Family owned businesses are favorite and Teller Street Studio is one I highly recommend. I've taken each one of my Grandsons to Family night and my friends to other great classes. Owners Joe and Mandy and the instructors are so warm and welcoming, we have had such a great time. Location is easy to get to, parking is good and free, their gift shop has great, unique items reasonably priced and we will continue coming back over and over in 2016. This is a great destination - not just a neat gallery. We take the kids and grandparents to painting events and everyone has a great time painting whatever they want, and the instructors are very helpful. We did a painting and wine night with friends. It was perfect!

We went for a ladies night out on a weeknight and the owner/instructors are all awesome. I have been to other paint classes and you get lost in a crowd or sea of people and no one walks around to help you individually. THIS PLACE is the opposite- the instructor walks around and helps you and answers questions and is not annoyed by you asking so many. Great way to learn and paint. They are laid back and not restrictive on how creative you want to get either. I LOVE this place. I like that they don't include wine/beer in the price because for people who don't drink, paying $40 for painting and sipping can be pricey. You pay as you go at a drink bar, and pick whatever you want to drink which is a plus! They have snacks on the paint and wine sessions, and on Saturday mornings one provide breakfast muchies. I love this place and they just had a groupon which makes the price almost 2 for 1. I will be back! read more

So, I'm writing this review based on a children's birthday painting party (about 10 children, ages ranging from 4-7 years old). My rating of a one star is due to the fact that this place did not seem open, warm and inviting to children. The actual painting time that the children participated in was fine (see paragraph below). The owner did not seem comfortable with having children in her studio. When the children were finished with their paintings, they started wandering around the studio checking everything out. There was a table (kid height) with many glass tiles on it. A couple of kids, including mine, starting making designs with the tiles. The owner came over and said in a not nice tone, "I'm going to have to ask you to move away from here. I was fine with you touching these tiles, but now you're messing up my design. This was a project I was working on." My daughter's face turned red, and she looked upset. My daughter is a very well mannered and responsible almost 7 year old. As we were leaving, she asked me why the lady there was not nice. The owner did not engage in any friendly conversation with the children. This was a child's birthday party! It's very understandable not wanting young children to touch breakables and other things. However, she should have put those things away or should have had "Project in process" or "No touching please" signs up. I was watching my children very closely (as were all of the parents), but I had no idea whether the table with mosaic glass tiles on it was supposed to be interactive or not/hands on display. The instructor was okay, but she just stayed next to her canvas and demonstrated process, pretty far and removed from where the children were painting. She did give simple, easy to follow directions for the children to follow. It would have been nice if they had someone walking around helping the children and if the instructor was closer to where the children were painting. Also, the paintbrushes had really long bristles and the children seemed to be frustrated by not being able to paint smaller details. I was happy to help my children (getting more napkins, helping them understand the process, etc.), but it would have been nice if the owner (only other person in studio at time of party, other than the instructor) would have walked around helping. Overall, it was a fun activity for a birthday party, but I was not impressed with the owner and the lack of child friendliness she exhibited. I would definitely have a party like this somewhere else, more geared for children. This place might be better suited for adult painting groups, but I would highly recommend scheduling a child's painting party elsewhere. read more

Paint your pet night was fun but there was zero instruction. The instructor told us to use white paint and a touch of green for the background of the painting and that was it. The rest of the night she was lost. I think she was working with some young girls at one table. The host that had checked us in, had left and that meant the instructor also had to play bartender and clean-up crew. We have been to many of these painting parties and created lovely paintings but Teller Street Gallery was a waste of money. Nice people but they don't know how to teach or lead a large class. read more

If you're new to pottery, this is a great place to try it hands on. Definitely do the "wheel you try" class (1 hour to make one item with full instruction) to get started. We made a bowl and we are going to try the 3 class package next to get experience. Alex, the pottery master, is great! Other employees aren't the nicest, but they might have had a bad day. We will also be back to try painting! This seems like it is the place of its kind in the area. Also, call ahead (a week) before scheduling 1:1 for pottery. read more

Awesome! We went in for a wine & vino painting night . The instructor David Gott was wonderful, did a great job of talking us through our painting and gave lots of helpful and positive instruction and input. The owner, Joe, was warm, friendly and helpful. We had been a bit concerned about stepping outside out comfort zone and trying "Art" but David and Joe made the experience so much fun that we forgot all about being intimidated and just had a great time. We will be back to enjoy the wonderful artists in the gallery and attend more painting classes or wine & vino nights. If you're new to this kind of fun this is the place to go! read more
