We found Tellurian Gardens on their website and had Scott out to our house to discuss our project. After several meetings and revisions he submitted a bid and the design was great. He sent us lots of pictures and worked with us to select colors, details and cool additional features like a metal planter with sword grass that picks up water off our covered kitchen. We wanted to build a bocce ball court on our side yard. Although he had never built one, he worked closely with us to design it and come up with an affordable cost. Scott provided us with a very detailed, firm quote that contained great detail. We discussed our desire to have a fixed price project, except for change orders. Many contractors are resistant to fixing their price, but he was very responsive and worked hard to detail all elements before we committed. Once we began construction although it was very wet, he kept the project moving forward through the mud bog during excavation. His crew was very friendly, polite and made sure things were cleaned up every day. They also worked with us as fixtures arrived, moving them into the garage. They even escorted an elderly neighbor through the project when she showed up unexpectedly when we were gone and wanted to take a look. Scott constantly communicated on progress and gave us plenty of time to address the usual questions and possible changes that arose during construction. His pricing on change orders was very fair and clear. Erin his wife takes care of the books and was very responsive when an error by our bank caused her bill to be slightly higher than we owed. We are thrilled with the result. It has totally changed our house, allowing us to spend tons of time outside and creating a great space to entertain groups from 4 to 40. We are very happy we met Scott and his wife Erin and are very satisfied customers. Scott and Erin are great examples of the kind of creative energy which can be brought to traditional businesses. I refinanced my mortgage for the cash to make a major investment in the landscaping around my property. I had a creek that was completely hidden by invasive weeds deeper than I am tall, a lumpy unattractive lawn that was more dandelion than grass, bad drainage that led to ankle-deep standing water in my back yard all winter, and poorly placed trees whose roots were cracking the foundation of my house, or whose pine needles left huge swathes of bare dead earth around my property. It all had to go, rip-and-replace. To make sure I was spending my money wisely, I invested in a professional landscape architect to draft a full plan for developing a sustainable, native creekside ecosystem that would thrive in this climate and terrain with minimal human intervention. After 9 mos and multiple false starts, my "designer" provided a plan that was impossible for me to build within my budget, and included some M. C. Escher elements that literally weren't buildable in reality. I stopped working with her and handed the "plan" to Scott Schulze of Tellurian Gardens. Within a few weeks, he converted her $60,000 fever dream to a workable plan that came in exactly at my budget of $25,000, representing significant design rework that he didn't charge for, simply included it in the overhead of preparing the detailed bid. The project included French drains to manage the stormwater under permeable walkways, a full network of soaking hoses and sprinklers connected to a programmable system and rain sensor, scraping and hauling away the weed-infested topsoil, then grading and replacing it with gardening soil, grinding out the trunks and root systems of 9 removed trees, and planting hundreds of native berries, wildflower groundcover, forest understory, and flowering trees. Watching the plantings bloom and burst to life this spring has been a joy, and everything I'd hoped for at the start of this project. I can highly recommend Scott, Erin, and their crew. read more

We called on Tellurian Gardens to replace our old, cracked patio with water-permeable pavers, and to add a small flagstone seating area elsewhere in our back yard. The patio had long been a problem during heavy rains when water would collect, occasionally in sufficient quantity to cause minor flooding of our basement. Tellurian Gardens worked with us to craft a plan manage the water, and they installed a beautiful patio based on that plan. Concurrently, they added a charming seating area at the back of the yard. In the end, we have two gorgeous areas in our back yard , and our flooding problems have disappeared (the definitive test came last week when torrential storms didn't create so much as a puddle). Tellurian Garden's workers were accommodating, efficient and friendly, and the project's pricing was reasonable - especially in light of the project's quality. There is nothing about the project that we aren't pleased with, and we readily recommend Tellurian Gardens to anyone considering outdoor improvements for their home. read more

I had a great experience with Tellurian Gardens. I wanted a small front porch built- and I could not find a single company that would even come and give me a bid on a small job. Enter Tellurian Gardens, who were recommended to me by my cousin, who had worked with them before and had nothing but wonderful things to say about them. Scott came out and gave me quotes on several different projects that I was thinking of, and so far I've done a porch and a fence. Both jobs were done impeccably, quickly, and look gorgeous. The person that did the actual work is a real craftsman, and left everything clean and tidy every day. Tellurian Gardens was recommended to me by my arborist, whose opinion I respect. I was impressed with their professional response when I contacted them, and Scott gave me an itemized estimate after we met and discussed the scope of the work I wanted. We replaced a timber retaining wall with a concrete gravity wall, with a cedar fence on top, replaced another wood fence, sawcut and removed part of a concrete slab, and extended a stone paver patio. Drainage and elevation issues were detected and fixed on the spot. Good workmanship was a given, so I did not have to spell that out. Scott, Erin and the crew were all terrific- punctual, met schedule, cleaned and secured the site daily. I will use them again when it's time to do my front yard. read more
