I know, I know, there's probably no chance that you're out this way, in the middle of the desert, on a native land site with nothing around. But if you are, Temalpakh Farm has extremely fresh, home grown produce and some other products produced by fellow Native Americans from the Western US. How did I get here? I went to Desert X 2025 (which I adore) and one of the art installations was on this site. Yes, they make you drive to weird and wonderful places for the biennial art scavenger hunt. The farm site has a new parking lot, an elevated outdoor seating area that is great for hosting company events or parties (as long as it is not in the hot summer months) and even a pond with a water fountain that might double as part of their irrigation system. When I was was there in May, some of the seasonal produce included heirloom tomatoes, squash blossoms, butter lettuce and artichokes. What could possibly be the best thing in the farmer's market is their smoothie stand. This being the palm desert, a majority of their freshly made smoothies have dates in them! Palm Tree Brew (coffee cold brew, unsweetened almond milk, banana, dates, mesquite powder, honey, date syrup, salt) - Okay, a coffee date shake is not for everyone, but if that's your thing, they make a great one. It's a perfect balance of everything, you can taste the coffee, the dates, the banana, the honey. All the ingredients were fresh, served smooth blended, nice and cold. A safer bet for most would be to stick with one of the other fruity date shakes here. Palm Tree is general date shake, Berri Crunch has mixed berries and dates, the Hulk has dates, spinach, kale, carrots, avocado, apple juice and pineapple juice, Green Feather has dates, banana, apple, avocado, kale, spinach and Farm's Dragon has dragon fruit, dates, pineapple, banana, chia/flaxseed and shredded coconut. I had read about Temalpakh Farm and we have wanted to visit for a while. Today we drive out to the farm, which is just south of Augustine Casino on Van Buren. The physical farm is very beautiful with fruit trees everywhere. The market is clean and bright, full of items I would like to buy and also give as gifts from local farmers. I saw vegetables and handcrafted oils, soaps, native basketry, and the beautiful smoothie bar. I bought the most fragrant kale, plump green onions, russet potatoes, berry with ginger jam and a spicy hot sauce. The farm brings in products from other local businesses. The farm is easy to reach from Indio or Palm Desert. Having organic treasures like this is such a treat. Do check it out. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: An indigenous-owned farm with an appreciation for the arts. This was one of the sites for Desert X 2025, a biennial site-specific art exhibit (desertx.org), and when we drove up we were surprised to see a thoroughly modern visitor-facing area with a market and art displays. After we checked out the Desert X piece we went wandering around the grounds, going up to a little hilltop art sculpture park and into their market, which was cute and super-clean. The produce inventory was a little thin, but there was a juice bar and an interesting variety of packaged foods, toiletries, and handicrafts--most native- and local-made. We ended up getting a fruit smoothie (delicious), guacamole seasoning, and a cute beaded hummingbird hanging decoration for my hubby's mom. All in all, an intriguing place and worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

Stopping at Temalpakh Farm was a treat and I'll be a new regular here for sure as I love their mission and how they are giving back to the community and bringing awareness to native lands and agriculture, even in a desert landscape. The Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians, one of the smallest Native American tribes in the United States is represented here. I read that the word Temalpakh means something along the lines of "from the earth" which is so fitting for this market and farm. I was lucky to come on a Monday afternoon and it was very quiet here. Definitely a good day to come if you want a more serene and peaceful shopping experience. It's off the main drag for sure so I can't imagine it ever feels "too busy" but in order to appreciate the market and the outside landscape and art, I felt very blessed of the stillness around me to take it all in, especially as it was my first time coming here. They are open Monday - Saturday but closed on federal holidays. Good to know. The market was adorable and very spacious. I loved the selection of produce, juices and dry goods. This spot really focuses on supporting local and small businesses. It's a great way to try new products that sometimes big retailers won't carry or that get overshadowed by all of the regular big name brands. It's truly such a gem this store, it was hard to not walk away with a full cart. I'll definitely need to just try a few items at a time as everything looked good. They have honey, seasonings, jams, coffees, dressings, You name it. They also have merchandise goods which were super cute, I am definitely grabbing a T shirt and hat next time! Would make a great gift for a local. They also had native beadwork dream catchers and goods like bookmarks, coasters, etc. This market for being small really just has a great selection all around and the interior of this market is very clean and with cute decor. Staff here was very friendly, a young lady helped us check out and was very nice. She definitely recommended we grab a smoothie next time and I surely will. The smoothie menu looked fantastic and with fresh all natural ingredients I'll be eager to get back here. So glad the Coachella valley has this place, it's a real gem and I can't wait to be back. read more

My son told me about this farm last year, but finally made my way here. It's pretty neat. it's a small market in a large space. They could probably fit a cafe in there. Fresh local produce, Temalpakh merch, woven baskets, bath/body gifts, spices, honey, and a smoothie bar. I got The Farm's Dragon. It's dragon fruit, pineapple, banana, chia seeds, dates, coconut milk and lime juice. It was really good. Loved it. Not super sweet at all. The staff was great and friendly. Upon entering, we were offered a sample smoothie of The Green Feather. It was really good, but I already had my sights on the Dragon so I'll have to come back and try the Feather :P Merch is really nice and high quality. Prices on produce were surprisingly fair - especially for organic and I love that its local!! They have walking paths too. The one I was on took me up to this hill right outside the market. You'll be able to get a 360 view of the farm and theres feather art for those photo ops! ;) It's all open in the middle of the farm its not blocked off or anything. There are signs around that say no unauthorized personnel beyond those points, though. I'm sure I'll visit again soon. Even if it's to sit on the hill for a little while. It's pretty and peaceful at the farm. :) read more

My wife and I stopped here to shop and drink a smoothie. The Palm Tree Brew smoothie was one of the best I've ever had! Cold brew coffee, unsweetened almond milk, banana, dates, mesquite powder, honey, date syrup, salt...amazing! One of the best parts of the smoothie is that you can actually taste the dates --- something I haven't experienced when having date shakes in Palm Springs. Also, it's very reasonably priced at $4.50 for a 12 oz drink. At the store we bought 2 pounds of dates. The people who worked there were very friendly --- and the store well laid out with interesting things to buy and great produce. Ok . I have high hopes for this " market ". Love the idea of supporting local businesses. Love unique quality small vendors and local produce. However Ive gone in summer last year and now in early spring 2025 the overall assortment is still on weak side. Hope with time it evolves. read more

A Saturday regular at Temalpakh for at least 2 years and have always had a great experience from smoothies, fresh vegetables and small talk with employees. We typically get The Hulk smoothie...great blend of vegetables with the perfect level of sweetness. We always pick up the seasonal vegetable/fruit offerings. Nice and clean market. Recently, we noticed a change in employees...and not so friendly, strictly business mentality which takes away from our enjoyable visit. We will still continue to support the local business; however, it would be nice to communicate with the original Temalpakh team or likeness in energy and friendship. read more

I found this hidden gem on Yelp and decided to see what it was all about. The staff is warm, friendly, and very welcoming. They shared information about the market and what would be offered as the various crops began to ripen. They had coffee tastings as well as dates. The coffee was really good! It was from Spirit Mountain Roasting Company- Guatemala HueHue. In addition to their organic selections they have hand woven baskets, soaps, lotions, candles, and much more. These items were priced very reasonably. The area is landscaped beautifully. It's very peaceful sitting outside listening to the cicada's sing. I tried their Berry Crunch Smoothie.
