Today we took advantage of being retired geezers on a Monday and drove out to Indio to buy some fresh produce and get some lunch that has been recommended here on Nextdoor. The store is on the northeast corner of Jackson and Avenue 50. {If you don't want to have heart palpitations, come in from Calhoun Street going south and turn right on Avenue 50, and right into the lot on the corner of Jackson because the cars from the two two-lane roads hustling at that Stop Sign are enough to raise your blood pressure a lot.} We saw displays of the most beautiful produce inside the door. Plump oranges, zucchinis, broccoli, cucumbers and many other items show off their freshness and aroma. We found cucumbers, zucchini, carrots and the most fragrant strawberries ever. A bottle of Pico Pica hot sauce rounded out the purchase. Their food truck is parked on the southeast corner of their lot. @elowtitos @lgdesertstore We ordered two carne asada mulitas, a burrito, and loaded fries. Everything was delicious. The staff in the store as well as the food truck are so lovely. My husband was using a walker and everyone in the store was super helpful. We look forward to scooting over often now that we know about this wonderful group of people and the magnificent fruits and vegetables. read more

This a very local general store sells everything we need. Nice family runs this place. Veggies and fruits are excellent. My fav part is that they sell tamales, burritos ,sandwiches and more. Local small businesses bring their products at the store. They are so tasty and reasonably priced. Burritos are always sold out quickly and my Tamales were perfect size. Not too much Masa. I love my neighborhood beer cave and snacks. Get their hot food in the morning. It can be gone by 10. We are hooked on their nachos- quick snack of tortilla chips, cheese sauce and jalapeños. SLUSH PUPPIES The closest and I think the only place with a slush puppy machine running. Really awesome old fashion create a slushee. You can find a huge selection of items in one stop from locally pick fruits and veggies to a huge selection of beers. I always stop for my little snacks like pickled eggs, nachos, dried shrimps, dehydrated chile pineapples/mangos. The food is delicious and always hot. The man seen my partner and I getting food and told us to grab and keep the burritos for free and give to a friend or something. Very generous of him and much appreciate. read more

I went in for two tomatoes. The clerk told me that fresh white corn had been delivered. I left with corn too! It was a delicious tip. These folks are so lovely and welcoming. Years ago I took Italian exchange students to the market. The workers were lovely to the students. I was proud of the American culture that they shared with the kids. You MUST visit this store. The Thomas family is a pillar of the local community, and this little country store is a LANDMARK! They quite literally have EVERYTHING you can think of! It's a little cozy and sometimes crowded, but it's worth rubbing elbows with the neighbors to come here for your fresh fruit and vegetables, cold beverages, fresh, homemade burritos, nachos and sandwiches, ice, propane, snacks, lottery, even work wear and t-shirts! They rub elbows with the rich and famous - but they never stop talking about L & G Desert Store. I know they are ok when they phone home with happy stories about visiting and eating and buying as much food as they can to bring home (Alberta, Canada) from L & G. For me, this place is out-of-the-way most of the time. But it's quite close to the kennel where we board our pup, so I stopped in on the way to pick up the dog after a trip. Medjool dates for $1.99/pound--very cool. The produce prices were hit or miss; some were cheap, others were not. There's a nice floral shop and a convenience store, too. People were buying up the prepared foods like shrimp cocktail. I'll have to go back to try those, since it seems like that's the reason to stop here. read more

We got lost trying to find the Farmers Market and went into this small corner store to get directions. Then I noted how busy the parking lot was. Went inside and said wow, avocados at such a great price, large and firm, dates and other fruits and vegetables at amazing prices. I will go again the day I return back to Palm Springs to buy my vegetables from here first. I have saved the sticker to be able to return again. Well this is really the only store in Indio close enough to you that sells any good food for the price with fresh produce. This is a really quieter part of the dessert and there aren't a whole lot of choices around you to really pick from out here and it's not like we were going to be able to go to our usual Whole Foods or Trader Joe's out here, but this is about the closest you can get for the money. I heard so much good things about this place that I was so disappointed with my first visit . I went in for a slush puppy & no one was able to help me p.s it was my first time there and first time trying one so I had no idea what I was doing to begin with , the guy walking around cleaning was nice he helped me but the cashier guy was so rude took forever to charge me as he stood there on his phone right in front of me & then had me standing there for a few min to get my receipt. It just felt uncomfortable and seriously not what I expected. I thought they would be a lot nicer but I guess only people who come often get that treatment . First and foremost I think the L & G Store is great! And my family has been going there for years. It has always been out first choice for veggies, fruits and flowers. However..... The woman that sells the flowers there was absolutely HORRIBLE!! I had a simple question about the flowers and she told me that customers should "just come in, purchase their flowers and leave" She said customers should not ask questions about them. the simple question i asked was "which flower do u think would last the longest". And she was outraged. I have never been treated with so much disrespect and unprofessionalism in my entire life. She was so rude, and told me i should just chose the flowers so she could get back to what she was doing. I understand people have bad days but this was uncalled for and absolutely not acceptable! She needs to be more educated about customer service. I hope one day someone treats her in the same manner she treated me. Then maybe she will understand. read more
