I found Ana Banana through FishingBooker.com. A 4.9 out of 5…read morestars seemed like a no brainer. I checked online to make sure the company was legitimate and called to formally book the trip. We excitedly booked at the end of January for a trip at the beginning of June, making it clear to Capt. Joel that the goal was to catch a sailfish or marlin or something to write home about - a memory our graduate would carry with him for a lifetime. I understand it was a stretch goal, but we quickly realized when we arrived for our very expensive 6 hour deep sea charter ($1600 + $300 tip), that Capt. Joel and his first mate, Eric, only ever intended to bait for Mahi - prey which is plentiful without the "deep sea"journey. The entire trip was a search for Frigate birds - apparently the real fishing guides. The fishing lines may have actually been in the water for only 45 minutes to an hour of the entire trip. We fared some rough, stormy seas to catch some very mediocre baby Mahi - total of 3 caught in what ended up being a 7.5 hour trip - plus a lost sea dinghy that the 1st mate and captain felt was worth retrieving for their own personal gain while we were politely grinning and baring an awful experience of a hopeless fishing expedition. Unfortunately, we got to watch one Mahi filet slip out of the first mate's hands into the ocean when he was cleaning the fish. I have to say, I did feel bad for him being left in the pouring rain to clean our fish while our captain dismissed himself to the indoors. Thankfully the 1st mate's friend came along with an umbrella after 15 minutes or so. At least we had enough for the three of us to have a "cook your catch" dinner at Castaways, along with some Ana Banana consolation fishing shirts and hats to memorialize this unremarkable trip. We were so excited and then so Incredibly dissatisfied with this trip. Please do yourself a favor and skip this Captain and skipper.

Ana Banana Fishing Charter - Talk about sad. These Mahi barely hit the measure for an acceptable keep.

I have a hard time leaving negative reviews, but I feel this experience needs to be shared…read more On May 24, 2026, my daughter, a friend, and I booked a morning snorkeling trip. We had booked the day before and were told that if weather conditions were unsafe due to the wind, the trip would be canceled and we would be notified. When we arrived that morning, we were told the trip was still going ahead. As we headed out, Candice explained there would be a "splash zone" on the boat. Unfortunately, the conditions were much worse than expected -- the entire boat was getting soaked from rough waves and strong wind. The ride out was extremely intense, and honestly, I expected we might turn back. When we arrived at the snorkeling location, the waves were still crashing heavily, visibility was poor, the wind was strong, and it had even started raining. I was surprised the trip continued under those conditions. Since we had already paid, I decided to try snorkeling anyway, which ended up being a mistake. Within minutes, I was struggling badly in the water. The waves were rough, I was swallowing water, and I was fighting just to get back to the boat. My daughter actually had to help me back in. Once I was back onboard, the rough conditions made me extremely seasick, and I spent the rest of the excursion vomiting over the side of the boat. It was honestly awful. I do want to say that Candice, the captain, and Hope were all incredibly kind and helpful throughout the experience. I understand everyone is trying to make a living, and I appreciate how nice the staff was personally. However, I truly do not believe it was safe to be out there that day. What surprised me even more was that my husband was out fishing that same morning, and his captain told him there was "100% no way" snorkeling tours would go out in those conditions -- yet ours still did. Thankfully, this was not my first snorkeling experience, because if it had been, I probably never would have tried it again.
