Ok.. so I've never been ocean fishing before, but am in the Florida keys on vacation, so I figured you know what let's charter a boat. Honestly I chose this place at random, and using all the reviews from various sources, and I am very happy I did. Captain Jeff was awesome. This was kind of a surprise for my wife and she was a bit apprehensive when she found out as she had been ocean fishing once before and didn't catch anything. Captain Jeff took us out, gave us a quick tutorial on how to bait the hooks with some nice juicy shrimp, and before my wife's first hook even hit the bottom she had a fish :-) Between her, my mother-in-law, and myself we caught a couple dozen easily. I noticed after the first hour or so kept and Jeff was working with my wife and had switched her bait to some little minnows at least it appeared to be minnows, and she was catching a little bit bigger fish including a nice dogfish. I was happy with this, as I was having a good time and she was happy too. He then looks at me and says so what do you think maybe we change position and catch something a little bigger? I say sure why not Now in my brain, something a little bigger means instead of the 2 lb fish we were currently catching maybe we'd get a 5-pounder of something. Oh no, that's not exactly what he was thinking. He switched fishing poles, put some "bait" on a hook that was honestly bigger than some of the fish I had just caught, tossed it over the side and handed me the rod. Didn't take very long I had what ended up being a 50/60 lb Greater Amberjack on the line, which wore me completely out in a short 6 minutes which is how long it took to bring it up. So yea, I'd definitely recommend Captain Jeff if your interested in a fishing trip near Marathon Florida. read more

Captain Jeff took our group of four on a half day reef trip. Conditions were good and Captain Jeff put us on the fish. We started with bottom fishing using live shrimp, later free-lining. We caught a wide variety of fish; Grunts, Strawberry Gouper, Red Grouper, Blue Runners, Cero Mackerel, Yellow tail, and Mutton Snappers. After we caught many fish to take home. Captain Jeff took us to a wreck site and put us on two Amberjack. What an exiting fight getting that Amberjack on the boat. We found Captain Jeff to be extremely knowledgable and experienced. He was very patient, with a great sense of humor teaching us many tips and how to instruction. I highly recommend Captain Jeff and we are already planning our next trip with him. read more

Captain Jeff took a group of us out for a 1/2 day offshore charter to celebrate for a bachelor party. Great experience and Jeff was very accommodating in every aspect of our trip. Just show up with snacks, sunscreen, adult beverage of your choice, and get ready to reel in some fish. Scheduled a trip four months in advance, with a deposit. Captain Jeff called us the night before, to confirm he was taking us out the next day, and hadn't called us sooner, because he was getting his emergency passport, for a Costa Rico vacation. The next day, he called and cancelled while we were on our way, because he was "sick". He then confirmed we would receive our deposit back. 16 days later, we still do not have our refund, which he says he submitted. Peek, his booking company, confirmed with us that he DID NOT submit a refund, and emailed him on our behalf, to initiate a refund. While communicating with him through text, he got rude because I accidentally called him, when trying to call Peek, saying "Calling Peek will not do anything". He then went on to continue getting rude, called me to yell and cuss at me, and talk about how "yes, he was working on his vacation, but the weather was bad that day, so why does it matter?" The weather was not bad; we ended up on a different boat within 30 minutes, and what does the weather matter, if he was sick .... He continued to text me, after asking me to stop texting him, and saying he blocked me, to argue with me, and call me crazy. Finally, after going through all of this, he emailed Peek to process the refund. EDIT: After posting this review, he then AGAIN texted me, trying to make me feel bad for sharing our experience. read more

I have used Capt Jeff for two different trips. The first when I took our oldest son, then 13, and most recently our youngest, at 14. Despite windy conditions on both trips that prevented us from going off-shore, Jeff made sure that we caught lots of fish inside the reef. Not only that, he taught both sons how to bait their hooks with the various live bait that we used. And he was very patient with them. I can't wait to fish with him again! read more
