I had two kids at Mary Alice over the past 6 years…read more Our oldest started during the pandemic, when you had to drop off your little one at the door and a staff member would take their little hand and toddle them off to class. The friendly woman who usually greeted us was Lily, the front desk person at the time. We grew to really trust Lily and she has since become this center's director! Amanda, the director when we started, is now regional director. I cannot say enough good things about them. They orchestrate a complicated environment involving small children, teachers, and parents in a kind and professional way. Lily still takes a moment to say hi at morning dropoff. Her right hand is Priscilla, who was a long time teacher at the school and is incredibly competent. She and Lily manage everything and plan adorable events like Pre-K graduation, Halloween parades, Mothers and Fathers day events, and Christmas recitals. There's a core of amazing teachers here-dedicated folks who have been at the center for years and seem to have endless patience with the kids. As is typical in childcare, there is some turnover outside that core group. There's a strong community at the school, and during our time we were lucky enough to have amazing parents who ran the Boosters organization. The MAOC Boosters is all volunteer and raises extra money for the school, buying new toys, enrichment classes, and equipment, as well as teacher appreciation. Most fun for my family were events like Easter parties, treasure hunts, St. Patrick's Day parties, movie theater rentals... the list goes on. They're great friendship building opportunities for the kids and adults. We've made many family friends at the school over the years. The Boosters is run by volunteers, so I really can't thank them enough. There are five classrooms by age at MOAC and each has their own vibe. Our youngest went through every classroom starting from infants. They're all great. Discovery preschool was always my favorite-a magical time where their little personalities start to really shine, with especially great teachers. Preschool was always a little crazy for us, I think because of the stage of development. Then PreK was great and we had the same three teachers for both kids. I feel like the children started to really learn things in PreK like they're in school. Ms. Emma ran Learning Adventures, an optional extra where she'd pull kids out in a small group to work on letters and words. I think it really made a difference and my kids loved Ms Emma! Here are the cons: Everything everyone has ever told you is true... when you start daycare- anywhere- you and your kid are going to get sick. A LOT in the beginning. Lily and the team will send e-mails updating you on whatever hideous ailment is floating around your kid's classroom. Keep your own kid home when they're sick and trust other parents are doing the same. I promise it slowly gets better. Second con: it's expensive. We spent an arm and a leg over these last six years, several of those years paying for two kids at the same time. The cost slowly decreases depending on the classroom, and starting in Discovery you can do fewer days per week, which are cheaper still. But you're going to want to put that lake house on hold. Also, you'll get a notice of tuition increase every year. Since we started, it's been anywhere from 3-4% per year so factor that in as well. I want to address some negative reviews still floating around online from before we even started at the school. We've been on the waitlist ourselves. The reality is that demand for good daycare is high and outweighs supply. There is also sibling preference for admission (which I completely support). I've seen more than one reviewer allude to the idea that the center is for big shot studio execs or something. I mean, it IS Burbank, CA so there are quite a few people in the entertainment industry but I was still freelance when we started here. One commentator even talked about all the nice cars at drop off (I guess they never saw my 2003 Subaru out there!) In reality, there's a mix of people from different backgrounds and professions. It's not just for the elite. Friendly suggestion for the school: I wish there was a better way to meet new teachers before dropoff. On a couple occasions, an e-mail announced a new person in the classroom. But at dropoff, familiar staff might be busy, leading to an awkward moment introducing yourself while simultaneously peeling a clingy child off of you to give them to this new person you just met. I bet there's a smoother way to do this! Lastly, I just want to thank Lily, Priscilla, Amanda, Emma, Naira, Yara, Marisa, Michele, Patty, Jasmine, Jailene, Jonde, Breanna, Shyan... there's too many people to name from over the years. Just, thank you to the staff. You have my eternal gratitude for helping us raise these children through such a busy, fun, hard, happy, difficult, but beautiful time in our lives.

A Preschool That Truly Feels Like Family…read more We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Toluca Playhouse Preschool. Our daughter has been part of this nurturing school for almost three years, and our son joined eight months ago. From the start, it was clear that this isn't just a preschool, it's a place where children are genuinely cared for, encouraged, and loved. The director Gina is warm, thoughtful, and deeply invested in creating a safe, joyful environment where kids can thrive. Trusting someone else to care for your baby is never easy, but the team made the transition feel natural and reassuring for both me and my kids. She provided such great support every step of the way. My children's excitement when it's time to go to school says everything. They absolutely light up, and as a parent, there's nothing more comforting than knowing your kids are happy, learning, and surrounded by people who truly understand and respect them. Miss Mel is also incredible. She has such a calm and loving presence and an amazing ability to connect with toddlers in ways that make them feel heard, understood, and empowered. Both her and Gina's patience, creativity, and kindness have helped my kids grow not just academically, but emotionally and socially as well. Toluca Playhouse has been such a blessing to our family, and I couldn't recommend it more highly to anyone looking for a place where their children will be safe, loved, and encouraged to be their best little selves.

Ms. Gina and Ms. Mel are so genuinely caring and kind towards the kids. The class size is small and intimate. They are mixed ages which we loved so much because it gives the younger kids the opportunity to learn from the older ones and the older kids an opportunity to lead and teach the younger ones. There is LOTS of outdoor play time, they do tons of crafts and activities inside the classroom, there is yoga and music teachers that come in weekly, and every other week an animal comes to visit! So far our daughter has held or touched a tarantula, a turkey, a snail, parakeets, and more!! Not many places you would get exposure like that. I feel like it's the perfect balance of letting kids be kids and play endlessly but also introducing some structure that comes with traditional school. Our daughter was newly potty trained when she started and they were so careful and attentive to that process too. I can't say enough good things about this preschool, we love it so much. Our daughter loves going and not joking that some days I can't get her in the car during pick-up.

My son started when he was two years old (2024) and has been attending ever since. At the time, I was a mother of one and very anxious about our son being looked after by anyone other than family. Fortunately, they both did everything to make us feel like family for a seamless transition. It is well rounded program and incorporated into everyday tasks/activities making learning fun, while also practical. Every week is focused on different topics and the themes/events are communicated in advanced. Our son (who has known to be a picky eater from time to time) has tried new foods at daycare which is a major win. The care and attention to the kids and the program are unmatched. They take the time to communicate every part of the program (meals, weekly activities, daily highlights, and my personal favorite: pictures of their day) allowing us to have a conversation with our little one. Thanks to Dream Big Little One, we are confident our son is prepared to enter TK in the Fall. We will not be saying goodbye, more like see you later, as we definitely plan to enroll our baby into the program once, she is old enough.

We can honestly say that enrolling our son here has been one of the best decisions we've made. From day one, Isiris and Ms. Geni, have treated our family like part of their own. The culture is warm, welcoming, and genuinely family-oriented. What has impressed us most is the curriculum. This is far more than childcare. It is a thoughtfully designed early education program that prepares children for structured school environments in an engaging, age-appropriate, and innovative way. Our son is learning communication skills, independence, routines, problem-solving, and social development through activities that make learning fun. We have seen tremendous growth in his confidence, curiosity, and ability to adapt to new situations. His adjustment has been incredible. He genuinely loves going to school each day. As parents, there is no better feeling than seeing your child run into the classroom with a smile. Perhaps the strongest endorsement we can give is that we live in West Los Angeles and drive more than 40 minutes each way because we have so much confidence in this program. There are many options closer to home, but none that provide the same combination of care, education, professionalism, and community that we have found here. The team has created something truly special. They are helping shape confident, kind, and capable young learners while giving parents peace of mind that their children are in the best possible hands. We are incredibly grateful for the impact this school has had on our son and our family, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to any parent looking for an exceptional early childhood education experience.

They are a truly amazing preschool…read morewith excellent academic instruction, dedicated and experienced teachers, and a wonderfully supportive, loving environment. The director, Marie, has worked in childcare and preschool/kindergarten education for decades. We toured different preschools and Burbank Edu-Care stood out to us for multiple reasons. It's a small, intimate environment and the premises are beautiful. They have a garden on the preschool/kindergarten grounds and grow fruits & vegetables which they use to prepare healthy, organic lunches for the children. Lunch and potty training are both included in their very reasonable tuition fees. At other schools, lunch was a separate fee and potty training was an additional fee, or you could not enroll your child if they were not potty trained to begin with. The school has an adorable "parking" area where kids can park their tricycles and push cars in front of the school (behind a secure, gated campus). The private, high-fenced gate in front of the school ensures that strangers cannot see the children from the street and that the children are not in danger of street-based traffic. My 3-year-old child loves Ms. Marie and has so much fun learning and playing with the other children. They have plenty of opportunities for art, dance, music, and sound academic fundamentals like phonics, colors, shapes, etc. My child is completely safe at this school. I am also profoundly touched that Marie has taken a very special interest in our older, autistic child and has been so understanding of our unique childcare schedule. You can tell that she truly loves the children. For Ms. Marie, this is not just a job for her or a paycheck-this is her calling and she is uniquely gifted in her ability to connect with and lovingly care for your child. The school is fully licensed, very safe, it's small, intimate, and the kids are cared for with loving attention. Other schools for small children can feel chaotic or like your kid is a number in a larger setting, but that's not the case here. There is so much comfort in knowing that your child has found his or her community and niche. You don't have to worry about all the horror stories of inexperienced caregivers around your small child. TBH-my MIL was hesitant when I told her we would enroll our little one in preschool. She warned me that some kids find it too traumatic, and maybe she's safer at home (given what she's seen on the news, etc.). We are highly protective of our children. We feel confident we made a great decision choosing Burbank Edu-Care. Given the level of care/attention given to these children (plus potty training and healthy lunches included) -the tuition is very reasonable/affordable. If you tour and call other preschools and kindergartens that are in Burbank-Burbank Edu-Care's rates are very reasonable/affordable and they don't have the hidden fees (for lunches, potty training, additional hours for certain shifts, etc.) that some other programs charge. I highly recommend Burbank Edu-Care and am so grateful we found this amazing school! I can't gatekeep such a wonderful program when so many parents are seeking to find a safe, loving, supportive, and excellent preschool/kindergarten that builds on their child's strengths, gives them a sense of safety, care, and accomplishment, and lets them play with joy and creativity. Call Marie! She's awesome!

We toured a few preschools but we didn't want a home daycare and some of the more institutionalized schools were incredibly expensive. The Learning Place was a nice in-between where it was more structured than a home daycare but less expensive than a more institutional school. At around $1,000 a month for 7am-6pm program we thought it was a great deal. The school has a nice outside playground with shade and cushioning a nice little playground. In our time there they did upgrade the playground to have shade and padding which was nice. Inside it is very clean and they separate the kids by age. There are two doors between the outside and the school so it is secure. They have an iPad check in and check out system. We chose the Learning Place because the director, Ms. Enereyda (Ms. E) is incredibly warm and friendly. I can't say enough positive things about Ms. E. We also liked that she speaks both Spanish and English and we could chat with her in Spanish. The other teachers like Ms. Veronica and Ms. Melina are incredibly warm and friendly as well. We always had very positive interactions with the teachers. We always felt that our daughter was in good hands at The Learning Place. I initially signed her up here because I was working in Glendale. After a year I began work somewhere else but kept her at Learning Place even though we lived in Sherman Oaks. We liked this place very much. Overall - - I highly recommend the Learning Place.
