Pros: it has an actual full-service bar, so I can get my drink on- I mean serious drinks, too, not just beer and wine, but full-on mixed drinks/specialty cocktails. The drinks are not cheap, though. Let's just call it what it is- "convenience prices," particularly for the beers on tap. Case in point? $10 for a short Angry Orchard??? Yep, that's what I paid. I don't know how much the taller version cost because I didn't bother to ask. Honestly though, the cocktail prices are in line with some of the casinos in Vegas, but we all know the old saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," so there's that. Beyond being able to drink here, they have a decent restaurant with regular food, like pizza (i.e. not just popcorn and Twizzlers movie theatre junk). Again, high prices, but you can actually say it's real food, not just candy and junk food. If you're adverse to eating popcorn or fried mozzarella sticks, it might be the way to go. Oh, and for the popcorn noshers, they had a huge variety of cheese/seasoning shakers located in the lobby to season popcorn. I liked the extra options because plain salt is boring. Unfortunately, they are attached to the backboard on a wire, probably to decrease the occurrences of theft. Seriously, who the heck steals popcorn seasoning? As for the theatre itself, this one has super comfortable reclining seats with foot rests. These are the best movie theatre seats anywhere. They were so comfortable, I almost fell asleep during a screening of Alien:Covenant- almost. It's obvious this particular Emagine location was renovated pretty recently. I've been here a few times before, but it's much nicer than it used to be, although it always had the bar and whatnot. They also had wait service during the film. Seriously, they took food and drink orders from inside the theatre and brought it to our seats! Emagine staff would drop by and ask if we needed anything from the bar or grill. I liked that! It's the best appointed movie theatre in the area, without a doubt. Getting through ticket purchase and concessions in the lobby was a breeze. Despite the crowd, those lines moved at a lightening pace. I was surprised because I thoroughly expected the line from hell. The cons: there really weren't many. Yes, the ticket price was very slightly elevated (no doubt, to defray the costs of such a nice upgrade), but it was worth it. Plus, they don't have traditional IMAX screens, either, like NCG. Instead, they have 3D and DBOX, which isn't exactly the same. The only other potentially negative aspect (and I'm not even sure if it couldn't be either a pro or a con, depending upon the situation) was that now you have to select your seats on a screen during ticket purchase. Hmm. It remains to be seen whether I really like that change or not. I can totally see why they are doing it- to prevent overselling of tickets and ensuring that groups/couples can sit together. I get it. I just don't know if I love it yet. I also wonder if this new method might cause more headaches or delays during ticket purchase, but I'm not sure. It wasn't a big deal to us at that time, but I could see it potentially becoming a bit bothersome down the line. Like I said, I see why they're doing it, I just don't know if I like it or not. Overall, great theatre with excellent service and amenities. I know I'll be going back.

Upon arrival at the theater, I checked in at the front desk/concession area. I received my concessions that I pre-purchased. I was alone with my child as a single parent. I grabbed 2 of their trays for the seats to hold the popcorns and drinks and began juggling all of that alone. I proceeded to my theater and was met by a staff member that said they were still cleaning and we would need to wait in the hall. When I asked where I could place the trays and food I was juggling I was told "I don't know" I asked for a manager and I had 3 "managers" come up to me. I explained that I was juggling all of this as a single parent and they said " maybe don't come so early". I said that the staff member should advise the theater doesn't open until 30 mins before a show and she said " we can't catch everyone".... I was then told "enjoy my show there is nothing we can do for you." Nothing like a theatre that isn't "family friendly" and doesn't care about the customer

We had a 9:45 pm showing on a Friday night and were running late. Around 9:50 pm, I stood at the…read morebar waiting for someone to come over, hoping to get a drink. After a minute or two, an employee, who I later found out from another employee was a manager named Georgia I believe, came over and started doing something at the bar facing away from me while I stood there waiting. She briefly looked back, made eye contact with me, and then returned to what she was doing without saying anything. I didn't initially think much of it, as there is rarely someone always stationed there. You usually just wait for someone to notice and come over. When she finished what she was doing, she turned around and asked, "Did you want something from the bar? I just closed it for the night." I assumed that meant ordering was still possible, so I responded, "Yes," to which she replied, "Well, I just closed it for the night." The interaction was confusing and not very pleasant. I ended up sticking to just pop and we proceeded into the theater. Later, around 10:30 pm, I went back out for a popcorn and drink refill but was told that the popcorn machine had shut down at 10:15 pm, so I returned to my seat with an empty bucket. I checked and saw that every movie showing that day had its last screening around 10 pm. Based on this, I assume the policy is to shut down popcorn 15 minutes after the last showing begins and to close the bar whenever the manager feels like it. That's an interesting way to run a theater, especially on a Friday night. We were the only people in our theater, and I couldn't help but hope that everyone else made a better choice by going to Saginaw or Birch Run for an Emagine or Celebration Cinema offering a better and cheaper experience. I've visited the Midland theater probably close to a hundred times over the past 5-10 years. The quality has never been particularly good, and sometimes it has been downright poor, like this night or the previous time when items were hanging in front of the screen during the Nosferatu showing, or other one of the many other times there have been issues. My only hope is that maybe this theater will eventually close and be taken over by a company willing to put more effort. Previously, lower prices could justify overlooking issues, but now it's somehow more expensive than Celebration Cinema or Emagine theaters, and the experience is dramatically worse at every level.

Knowing the new owners and how much they've invested in "unglamorous but necessary" infrastructure improvements, I commend them for making long-term investments in this theatre. I love their popcorn and their half-price refills on popcorn and soda. I particularly like the movie choices they make and keeping the movies as family-oriented as they can. Since the change in ownership, Lake Theatre offers matinee showings. I appreciate the commitment the new owners are showing and wish them much success!

They have never opened the actual ticket counter lines to sell tickets- ever. That's stupid. They don't even open them for blockbusters. It makes zero sense. The place is full of people in line buying tickets, snacks, getting extra snacks or have questions, gift cards, etc and it's a mess. It's not very well planned. Why are ticket counter lines there if they never were going to use them for guests? Explain this... The restrooms are usually clean, the staff is usually ok, but the concession section is a mess, including the soda refill area. As for the popcorn, it is sometimes stale or unseasoned. Parking is decent and the lot is well lit with limited security watching the lot at night, which is a bonus when it's quite dark or bad weather. A pretty good theatre experience compared to the rest.
