We had a 9:45 pm showing on a Friday night and were running late. Around 9:50 pm, I stood at the bar waiting for someone to come over, hoping to get a drink. After a minute or two, an employee, who I later found out from another employee was a manager named Georgia I believe, came over and started doing something at the bar facing away from me while I stood there waiting. She briefly looked back, made eye contact with me, and then returned to what she was doing without saying anything. I didn't initially think much of it, as there is rarely someone always stationed there. You usually just wait for someone to notice and come over. When she finished what she was doing, she turned around and asked, "Did you want something from the bar? I just closed it for the night." I assumed that meant ordering was still possible, so I responded, "Yes," to which she replied, "Well, I just closed it for the night." The interaction was confusing and not very pleasant. I ended up sticking to just pop and we proceeded into the theater. Later, around 10:30 pm, I went back out for a popcorn and drink refill but was told that the popcorn machine had shut down at 10:15 pm, so I returned to my seat with an empty bucket. I checked and saw that every movie showing that day had its last screening around 10 pm. Based on this, I assume the policy is to shut down popcorn 15 minutes after the last showing begins and to close the bar whenever the manager feels like it. That's an interesting way to run a theater, especially on a Friday night. We were the only people in our theater, and I couldn't help but hope that everyone else made a better choice by going to Saginaw or Birch Run for an Emagine or Celebration Cinema offering a better and cheaper experience. I've visited the Midland theater probably close to a hundred times over the past 5-10 years. The quality has never been particularly good, and sometimes it has been downright poor, like this night or the previous time when items were hanging in front of the screen during the Nosferatu showing, or other one of the many other times there have been issues. My only hope is that maybe this theater will eventually close and be taken over by a company willing to put more effort. Previously, lower prices could justify overlooking issues, but now it's somehow more expensive than Celebration Cinema or Emagine theaters, and the experience is dramatically worse at every level. read more

Reviews are outdated yes they have remodeled and now have spacious reclining seats and when people get up to go to the bathroom you don't have to move you can stay in your seat. Excellent sound big screens nice setup. read more

Saw Avatar 2 today. There was six of us, the theater was full. One of our seats was not working properly. Unfortunately, we didn't want to miss the movie, so didn't report it until movie was over. All we were asking was for a movie credit. Manager said we should have said something earlier. Welllllll, we didn't want to miss movie or not sit with family. Think about it.. an eight dollar credit.... Which pretty much guarantees we would return and pay for at least two, probably more people annnnndddd the food goodies! The manager, was disrespectful and uncaring. I'm 67 years old, so toooo old to be scamming him. I'd like to not return... but Midland offers minimum choices. read more

We stopped going here because they no longer accept MoviePass, which is fine, because Emagine is about 20 minutes away and has MUCH better popcorn, which is mainly why my wife goes to the theater anyway. read more

Been a while since we went out to a movie. Last movie visit was almost 4 months ago. What a waste of time and crappy service. The ticket prices are up and I can understand to a point. BUT then add up concessions.......holy crap what a ripoff! I understand movie theatres have always over charged for concessions BUT once again this has got out of hand. 2 large pops and a large popcorn was $25.... AND YOU WONDER WHY SO MANY SEATS ARE EMPTY!?!?!?! The end is getting nearer each year. Movie theatres are on the way out fast. Maybe we should look into new deive-in theatres? For a small town cinema, not to bad. I found it clean, and the staff were friendly. The wine was a pleasant surprise, however I was informed that the white wines have been unavailable "for months". That was not indicative of good management. But, what can one expect of a small town. read more

They get 3 stars basically because of the seats. Can they get with the times and remodel these seats to be reclining!? Needless to say the seats aren't that comfortable. I also suggest they get a better app. I'd love to be able to purchase tickets through it, have my tickets electronically, use my NCG club card on it and load money into it to pay for concessions. All that aside the service is friendly, popcorn is fresh and the theatre and restrooms are usually clean. read more

This place is nasty. It smells like grime, the carpets are awfully dirty you can barely see the blue/navy color. Staff was rude and they clearly don't care about customer satisfaction. The seats are sticky and they smell like they've never been cleaned before. Really bad because it's the only movie theater in town. read more

Our expectations were rather lowered, after reading the reviews here. However, we were pleasantly surprised, and happily, found this theatre to have been unfairly maligned. We've visited small-town theatres in the past, and this was the nicest one we have ever frequented (usually they are last remodeled in the 1980s, complete with yucky seats, sticky floors, tiny and disgusting bathrooms, postage stamp screens, etc). Midland's theatre was clean, with very comfortable seating (as anticipated, there was an up-charge for the newer style recliners), pleasant staff, good screen size, and sanitary bathrooms. Of course it cannot compare to the behemoth theatres in the metropolitan areas, but I can't imagine they sustain enough traffic, in a less populated area, to afford that experience. Hey NCG Cinemas, how about an academy award worthy movie for once when the movie actually comes out?? Maybe you would have some room on your screens for say, The Master, or something of that caliber if you weren't showing Finding Nemo again, or Zoo Keeper...or other movies with poor reviews for so long. I also find it revolting that you would keep 2016 Obama's America on your screens for so long. Is it just to make sure that everyone has seen that propaganda that the owners support? I used to go to the movies on a regular basis, but I've been to this theater only a handful of times in the past 2 years. Sure it's clean and the kids running the candy counter are nice, but one good movie on your screens every month or so would be fabulous. Perfect for if you have kids under 10 though! read more

I agree with Tom. Movies are much better here that at Saginaw. I've never had an experience where the floors were overly sticky or people hooting and hollering like I've had at the Saginaw theaters. They have a nice big parking lot. One thing is I wish they had more of the bigger screens. I think they only have like 2 big ones and then the rest are much smaller. read more

Arrived and my first impression was its not so great. We arrived at the ticket both and a sign said go to concession stand for tickets. You can tell the employees do all the jobs and everyone is a jack of all trades. I found that the space between the seats is too small. People that get up in the movie theater to go to the restroom to walk through everyone else needs to get up. The space needed to get by is too small. My seat did not recline and the seat foam cushion was all worn out. You can easily tell because the foam pieces were all over the place. I didn't have the best experience but being that it's the only movie theater in Midland I guess people don't have another option. read more

The seats are all broken. When I've told employees about a broken seat, they've told me they'll move them to a different spot if they need to. Like they're just moving broken seats around and none are ever fixed. Not sure what good that does anyone. We saw a movie last weekend and at the posted time for the movie, generic advertisements were still playing. Previews started almost 10 minutes later, then the movie. Isn't this digitized? How is it so far off? On the plus side, it's really cheap to see a movie here compared to other cities. And this is the only option in town, so go here or drive to Saginaw. read more

Was excited to see Cats! The seats are great, however entering the theater is a malfunction junction. No signage to make you aware that you have to wait in a very long line for tickets and concessions all at once. I had purchased my tickets online and someone told me that I could print them at the kiosk...however I was not warned I would have to go to the back of the line to get popcorn. I love going to the movies, and my choices are pretty much NCG Midland or Celebration Cinemas in MT Pleasant. Midland NCG is comfortable, but if you aren't seeing the newest releases, you will be out in a smaller theater. All the Midland NCG theaters need to calibrate their surround sound. We recently went to see Jersey Boys (a musical) and the sound in the theater was terrible. Not once did I feel immersed in the music of the film, it was as if the sound was 2.0 instead of at least 5.0 Dolby. If you want the movie experience don't go to NCG cinemas. If you just want to watch a show, then it is clean and alright. Celebration Cinemas in MT Pleasant has recently upgraded their seating and had bigger screens, and knows how to calibrate the sound. read more

Place is over priced and there are better theatres for sure. Also in the womens rest room there was dried up poop smeared on the stall, which shows they dont check or clean the bathrooms. When me and my girlfriend went to look for a employee we couldnt find one and i knocked on the employee only door and no one could be found so either they didnt care enough to check what we wanted or they didnt care enough to do their jobs. Plus i shouldnt have to bring up that the bathrooms should be cleaned anyhow. read more

Horrible ticketing policy. They make you go purchase tickets at the concession stand. If all you want are tickets you still have to wait in line behind everyone else trying to decide what snacks they want. Additionally, theatre was generally dirty. Place seems dated. Much prefer the GDX in Saginaw. Surprises me this theatre isn't up to the standard I'd expect in Midland. read more

We are used to going to the NCG in East Lansing so we checked out this place while in Saginaw. I dislike that most times I go to NCG they do not have the box office open to buy tickets only if you do not want to buy concessions in EL. The Midland NCG was even goofier as you had to buy wait in the box office line to get concessions and then wait in another line to get popcorn. My main complaint is that the entire place was filthy, there was popcorn everywhere. They definitely needed someone out sweeping the lobby and hallways. Seriously I have never seen such a dirty theater. The people working were very nice though. Maybe understaffed? read more

Agree with what all others have said - ticket system ridiculous, entire theatre needs an upgrade. Young high school workers are very nice and you can tell they know things are not ideal. Too bad for those who live in midland this is a much nicer town than showcased by its only theatre. read more

My family and I drive from Saginaw to see the star wars movie, which was great!, When we entered , bought our tickets and popcorn and drinks. They handed us a bag for the popcorn, really? Ok, I can deal with that, next the theater, what a joke, popcorn all over the place and looked like the seats haven't been cleaned in a while. Seats were comfortable, but that was all. My wife and I recently watched a movie here. We both almost froze. It was so bad my wife got up in the middle of the movie and asked them to turn the heat up. They did not, in fact it may have even gotten colder. My wife was so upset she wanted to file a complaint. The counter person pretty much blew her off so she asked to speak to the manager. The manager "Matt" took his sweet time coming out. All I can say is the counter person learned from a master. Matt has blowing someone off to a science. He said that someone is supposed to go in and check the temperature but that they do not do it. Hello - is not the manager supposed to make sure that the employees do what they are asked to do. He clearly thought since they had a system in place it was okay if everyone froze and it was not his job to MAKE the system work. His lack of concern was palpable. I know his name because he was blowing us off so badly I asked. In the end I did not feel like I was valued as a customer. read more

Ran out of ice in pop machines. 2 pop machines were down. Set up with buying your tickets and ordering your drinks and food was stupid. Would of bought more at a normal food counter. It was a cluster. I also ordered a 16 Oz beer for 6.00 and it was in a 12 Oz cup. Asked for extra butter on my popcorn and did not get it. Fairly standard small movie theater with everything you'd expect from one in a city of this size. Unfortunately there are several downsides; the first being that ticketing services have been combined with the concession stand, resulting in a long line whether or not you want popcorn. Secondly you can hear the movie playing in the next room if it gets loud enough. Lastly they don't do a very good job cleaning; it's easy to spot trash left from patrons who saw the film before yours. read more

This used to be the best theater in mid-Michigan until the GDX was built in Saginaw. If you're already in Midland, this is the obvious choice for catching a film, however I'm not a fan of their showings heavily favoring 3D over 2D. During our visit, when the film was out of focus for everyone, I went to bring it to an employee's attention, only to be ignored until I had to interrupt them. That aside, the front counter doesn't seem to be manned anymore, so I'm wondering if this theater will end up being renovated at some point or just continue to decline. read more

There is certain theaters I prefer to go to and this is definitely one of them. I don't really like Saginaw ones though Bay City has one that isn't bad. Much cleaner, better seats with more room and just a nicer location. read more

Was better before the remodel, popcorn is more expensive, seats are uncomfortable, aisles are too narrow. They should've left things the way they were. I was excited for the remodel but it was very poorly executed. Staff was pretty rude as well. read more

We were visiting the Midland area and decided to come here. First, they had moved the ticket counter to the concession area, so there were tons of people who only wanted tickets who had to wait for the people who also wanted concessions. We got our tickets after waiting several minutes and then we were sent to the wrong theater. It turn out that they are not putting the movie titles over the door but rather sticking with only a number. The usher sent us to theater 6 but our movie was theater 9. When we realized that this was a mistake our movie had been playing for a half an hour. We talked to a manager who told us to come back for a later showing, when we told him that we could not do that, gave us re-entry passes instead of giving us our money saying, "sorry, that is all we can do". All in all worst experience I have ever had. There were several people going into the theater behind us saying the same thing. read more

Was excited to see 1917. We were coming into town to see friends. I have never posted a negative comment before but this has to be known. We arrived to the movie theater and the place was filthy. The check in line was crazy and we already had our tickets but it took us to ask someone where to print. After we did I found out concessions was where you buy the tickets. I was lucky got to take a stroll through the lane again to order then carry my empty popcorn bag to someone to fill it 20 feet away. Then I got to the theater lol all the seats were different the ones we sat at reclined which that's usually awesome. The issue was when you reclined your head would give the person a foot massage behind unless of your a creep you'd probably hate this. For future seats buyers beware don't get rows H and up there is no leg room everyone has to get up when someone gets up to use the bathroom etc. The theater needs to be updated it's a couple decades old. The refurbishment is a definite downgrade. The new seats are really uncomfortable. The headrest sits nicely in the middle of my back. There's absolutely no room for feet and forget about standing up to let people pass, you have to clear the aisle. Seats in the back row don't recline at all. This is my local but won't be my regular anymore. read more

It's a good theatre if you don't mind watching a movie on a postage stamp. The screens are small, and the seating is cramped. I do like the stadium seating; it's a nice touch. The ticket booth has been closed in favor of buying tickets at the concession stand. When you first walk in, it's now an empty, dark room and not very inviting. The atmosphere clearly leaves a lot to be desired, especially since the concessions are now so busy, and employees have to yell at customers, "I CAN HELP WHO'S NEXT!" It's unfortunate that they don't have competition in town. read more

Ticket prices are fairly low but as usual food is always super expensive but drink and popcorn refills are free. The theaters are always fairly clean and the leg room is decent. I agree with other reviewers that some of the screens are fairly small. All the higher numbered theaters have bigger screens and better sound and that's where the new movies show. read more

The only game in town. Went to see a movie during the second weekend of Star Wars. No soda (co2) ran out. We could purchase water...that was warm...due to demand. Overall, it is not a bad experience but for as much as a movie ticket costs, it should be a stellar experience and it isn't. I don't like going to the concession stand to buy tickets when there is a perfectly good counter in the lobby. The staff seems a bit lazy - for example the garbage containers in the bathroom are always overflowing, the beverage area is a mess, and no one moves to clean up. read more

This theater is is need of upgrade from the 1970's style. The seats are not comfortable, it is crowded and usually dirty. I went recently and part of the film was not visible (where there was wording) due to the small screen size. I go there only because it is close but if I have the time I go to Saginaw. Even that theater, as nice as it is for the area, does not stand up to typical theaters in more populated areas. read more
