Ten Thousand Villages is a delightful little shop in Fells Point I've passed by many times, but never visited until 9/15! It has a bazaar feel (though a bit more vanilla) with a ton of random items and tchotchkes. A friend and I spent a nice 30 minutes in the store, possibly touching everything, but enjoying every second of it. The salesperson interacted with us from behind the register area, but was very hands off, which was cool during our exploration. I ended up purchasing a fabric softener ball with a cat face on it AND some cute, VERY heavy, cat shaped salt and pepper shakers. There were a million more things there I would buy, so I'll definitely be back. read more

I went inside because of their gorgeous window displays and was pleasantly surprised by their diverse selection of items... ALL Fair Trade! I was on a browsing and getting-holiday-ideas mission today, so I only bought a few small things; a candle, a soap bar, and a chocolate bar. The chocolate was SO good, and the candle and soap both smell amazing. Thanks to the staff, I learned that the candles help young moms in Chicago, the soaps help children go to school in India, and the chocolate helps small farmers across South America. I love that everything comes with a story of hope and helping someone. I will absolutely be going back soon to buy some gifts for my loved ones!! And maybe more chocolate for myself ;) read more

Situated on the busy street of Fells Point, this store makes for a great place to get cute souvenirs to buy and look at. They have a really good green coconut cold brew tea and while visiting, I got to try some! Not too sweet, and refreshing. It is a bit more on the expensive side, but they have some unique products! Nice and helpful staff. read more

The store was nice upon arrival...until we met Jean...she followed us around the store telling us the price of everything when we asked for the price of not a single item..But we were very polite. Eventually she told me I looked like I couldn't afford almost anything in the store, which was alarming because I was wearing diamonds and Fendi. I was there with my children and the ignorant comment was quite discomforting. She also made an ignorant comment about her own coworker as soon as she left the store for her break saying "she's not Indian, she's Guatemalan" but NOBODY ASKED. The experience was so unsettling I'd never ever give them my money. read more

I stumbled into this little shop while I was exploring Fells Point a couple months ago, and I loved it. I had heard of Ten Thousand Villages, but had never been into a storefront of theirs before; and while shopping online is convenient, sometimes it's hard to beat a walk through a store. This is especially the case here, given the nature of the brand. Ten Thousand Villages as a group is dedicated to supporting makers and crafters by providing a fair income. They sell fair trade items only, so shopping here felt really special and personal. Honestly, I would have bought half of the store and taken it home with me if I could have. From necklaces and rings, to beautiful dinnerware, to unique art pieces, to teas and soups, this place had a little bit of everything. Even better, pretty much everything here can more or less be described as eye candy. I ended up wandering through the store, just soaking up the colors of all the spring merchandise on display, as well as appreciating the craftsmanship that went into everything. Eventually I decided I had to get out of there before my desire to own all the pretty things won out over my good spending sense. I did pick up a necklace before leaving, though - I figured it would be a beautiful souvenir from my visit. The cherry on top of the bright store and eye-catching, handmade merchandise was the lovely woman in charge of the store that day, who was exceptionally polite and helpful. I ended up talking briefly with her as she was from England, a place near and dear to my own heart. I will definitely keep this storefront in mind during future trips to Baltimore - it's a great addition to a charming area, and due to the nature of their items, this is one place where shopping online just doesn't compare to perusing through a storefront. read more

What an amazing store! Beautiful handmade items, as well as coffees and teas from all over the world. The staff are SO welcoming, it felt like my wife and I were walking into an old friends house! We had gone to the Baltimore Wine Festival, and had an all day water taxi pass, so on the way home we decided to play in fells Point for a while. I do not know how we missed this store before, but we know about in now! From the LOOKS of the items in the window, I thought this store was going to be very pricey..and I was wrong! Prices are VERY REASONABLE, and the best part is your purchase actually has a positive global impact. Ten Thousand Villages is one of the world's largest fair trade organizations and a founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). So tens of thousands of disadvantaged artisans in 38 countries have an opportunity to show their amazing craftwork to the world! It really is worth a stop here if you are visiting Baltimore, and since we live here, we will be visiting TTV often. Oh, they have a "coffee club" for locals that is a nice perk! For every so many pounds of coffee, you get a pound free! They handle the punch card, so all you do is enjoy your shopping experience. read more

I've been to Ten Thousand Villages in different cities and this one is maybe the location I like the least... maybe because I find it a bit dark in there. Also, this visit during the holiday season, I wasn't at all acknowledged by the lone salesperson. I'm very sensitive to this but thought I might have been overreacting, just simmering there as I shopped, and actually moved close to the saleslady following her around for a bit and realized, nope, she just doesn't see me... Merchandise-wise, I understand the mission of Ten Thousand Villages but many of the items seem of poor quality or are just things that aren't useful to me... I left empty-handed. read more

This store sells items made in the West Bank by a Palestinian family. When I asked the employee whether it was made by Palestinians, she refused to acknowledge that they were because "not everyone recognizes Palestine" and "she sees both sides." She continued to explain that she refers to Palestinians as "Arabs" and Jews as "Israelis." That is not seeing both sides. That is seeing Israel and choosing to erase the existence of Palestinians. It's not political to simply acknowledge the existence of a people. It's political to erase them. I'd encourage all who visit to purchase the Palestinian pottery and glass (both absolutely stunning) to support Palestinian business and to have conversations with those who work there to remind them that by simply refusing to acknowledge the truth that people exist and this is THEIR art contributes to oppression through cultural genocide. read more

This is one of my favorite shops in Fells. I have a lot of fun going in, even if I don't plan to buy anything and am just wandering with friends. Their fair-trade items are adorable, exquisite, and make for gifts you'll feel good giving. I bought ornaments for my Christmas tree, and several presents since then for friends and family birthdays. I feel like every one of their items tells a story - it sounds cliche, but here it's really not. This location is located in Fells Point amongst the shops and plethora of bars and pubs in its environs. A great small fair-trade gifts store with hand-made jewelry and specialty arts and crafts made in countries worldwide. I especially loved their jewelry and needlework fabrics. If I could I'd furnish my place with everything from this store and wear every piece of jewelry they have. Despite being a fair-trade gifts store, unlike what I expected the prices for the items were fairly reasonable. Even if not, I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a gift if it means it provides an artisan somewhere else in the world the opportunity to exercise their entrepreneureal abilities and make a living from their craft. Ten Thousand Villages is one of those stores I always forget about, and I'm really not sure why. Every time I go in there I am so overwhelmed in the best way possible! I wish I could buy everything in the store, basically. I schlepped down to Fells Point after work one day after learning that the store carried products from the Women's Bean Project, an organization based in Denver where women who are struggling can work and build skills, confidence, and hopefully get back on their feet. I picked up a Women's Bean Project brownie mix, and wanted to get a couple of other things to go along with it as a birthday gift for my friend. I ended up purchasing a bookmark made out of a sari to benefit an organization that helps women learn to read in Bangladesh, and a bar of soap made out of mud from the Dead Sea made by both Israeli and Arab women. In a nutshell: really, really cool unique stuff. The downside is the price. Everything runs a little pricey, which I don't mind since it's helping different causes and people around the world. But it's a lot easier to find really wonderful expensive items than to find smaller things at a lower price point, like what I was looking for when wanting to purchase a variety of things for a gift. I wish there was more variety and options at all price points. The location is perfectly fitting, even though parking in Fells can be aggravating. And the two women working at the store were SO VERY NICE! Seriously, I could have listened to the cashier talk about her love of za'atar seasoning all day. I love the stuff they have in that store and had actually purchased a beautiful wind chime from them. However, the wind chime turned out to be poorly made and couldn't withstand the wind and broke. I mean, if it's meant to be a wind chime how could it not be strong enough to withstand the wind? So I called the manager and informed her of that and she was very rude and unfriendly on the phone saying it's fragile by nature and it's not their fault that the thing broke if I " didn't hang it right". And all I did was to inform her of the fact so that their customers would be foretold and warned about it at the time of the purchase. I mean, their stuff isn't cheap so if I spend the money, I need to be reassured that it's also well-made. This experience has really tarnished my positive feelings about their store and it's a very unfortunately thing since I would not want to shop there anymore in the future. read more

Fells Point is tough on parking, guessing Fridays are really busy. Finally got a spot and spent several hours checking out all the neat stuff. Found a really unique lamp that I just had to have, thou a bit on the high side the quality seemed really good. Loved all the nick knacks and would have gotten some jewelry if the lamp hadn't drained my bank account. Friendly and helpful folks work there and where very patient with all my window shopping. highly recommend, hope you have better luck with parking. read more
