There aren't very shallow areas for the toddlers like there are at some of the other DCR pools, such as Connors Memorial Pool in Waltham, which probably helps to keep the crowds down. But the pool is very spacious and has enough space both for lap swimmers and kids playing. The spray deck just outside is great for the younger kids, too.

It's a year later and they've done extensive updates to the pool location. 1. There's now an ADA regulation ramp with rails going into the pool for those in wheelchairs or who have trouble walking. 2. They added easier steps and hand rails for children and families to enter at the opposite end (long stairs that slope gently instead of ladder style.) 3. They have added permanent shade awnings around the pool, along with wooden benches underneath them (definitely still try to come early because those get snapped up quickly.) 4. The changing rooms are the same, but entering the locker rooms, there is now almost a rubberized "curtain" of small strips to walk through that creates privacy. Previously anyone walking by in the main corridor could see directly in. 5. The splash pad/fountain area has awnings and benches around it, and is ADA accessible. As of summer of 2023, the pool is open 7 days a week from 11:15AM-6:00PM. The changes have greatly improved the property, and it's a place where you can come and stay all day instead of roasting on hot concrete. They also have water fountains and outdoor showers along the pool deck for getting a quick drink and rinsing off.

If you live nearby, it's a great 2 mile jogging route ;) Parking: Plenty of parking! & free too!

I…read moreguess it's not really a park but the coastal area behind the American Legion building where the road to Moon Island becomes restricted for anyone who's not with the police academy or fire academy. Secret Squantum Park has a GREAT view of the Boston skyline - especially at sunset. You can work your way along the small rocky beaches covered in zillions of periwinkles and find yourself looking over calm waters back to the shiny Kubrickesque monolith that is the John Hancock building. There's also good views of UMass, the JFK library and the mysterious Thompson Island. Oh, and if you like skipping stones - THIS IS THE PLACE. I managed 12 skips with one stone. New PB!

Definitely a nice place to park for the night even when it's pouring with rain, like it was the one most recent night I was here. Love the beach in the morning when the weather is good... absolutely dreamy place to hang out in warmer weather. Never in the bad weather though, ew. But that used to be my thing and maybe it's yours. There are a few weird characters coming by in the middle of the night but the same could be said about your mother's bedroom.

We haven't been in about 10 yrs and was so happy to see some amenity upgrades to keep people interested. They added a little playground/ slide for the kids, doesn't look Civil War ish but I'm sure is helpful for young ones lol a fantastic Welcome center with items they've found on Island or that era and a 9 minute movie introduction to the History of George's Island All Islands are carry out what you bring in so be aware of that. George's Island has Salty's food bar with really good prices considering everything has to be brought over on the ferry. We like to picnic and have a feast for dinner once back on the mainland. Bathrooms were clean and plentiful on George's and a composting loo on Lovell's. Free water taxi to Island hop to the other Islands to explore. I've been coming here since I was 12 and I'm SO happy that the BHI are growing with the times and there is still such an interest. The views of the cityscape are just awesome, it's like a world away even though you can see the skyline. LOVE IT ! Also, in all this time we've driven into the city to park but chose to go out of Hingham this time. We'll stick with that from Now on unless we need shopping downtown. Hingham offers free parking with the purchase of the Island ticket!! And Wahlburgers is just down the street with additional shopping if your not exhausted from a day of beach-combing

The cruises are offered in partnership with the National Park Service, so our guide (who walks you from the meeting point to the boat and narrates the tour) was a park ranger, which makes it a more special experience, in my opinion. They offer day time and sunset cruises, but we were lucky enough to be able to fit in a sunset cruise on a Friday evening. The 2-hour cruises are narrated, so you can learn about various islands and their histories, as well as see some lighthouses. You check in at the Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center on the Rose Kennedy Greenway and then walk a short distance (less than five minutes) to the boat. The boat has seating inside and outside, as well as bathrooms. I had never been out into Boston Harbor before, so this was a treat. I learned a lot and saw a few stunning sites before/during/after sunset. I enjoyed the experience. Seeing Boston Light and Graves Light on this cruise was a real treat. My only real complaint is that they tell you to arrive at least 3 minutes before departure to check in. This was absolutely not necessary. Our departure was at 5:30, and I don't think we even started to walk over to the boat until 5:30. We had arrived at 4:45 and so had to sit around for 45 minutes while others checked in much closer to the departure time. We had books so we were okay, but I really don't think they should be asking people to check in that early! A very cool experience if you're looking for a way to get out into the Harbor and on the water during a visit to Boston!

BEST (OFF LEASH) "DOG" PARK IN BOSTON!!! It is not fenced in which may seem surprising considering…read moreits proximity to the expressway but it really doesn't need one. Once you find parking in the smallish, dirt lot, the park is entirely on a peninsula even at low tide. There are usually at least 5 dogs there after 5pm and they range in all sizes. The weekends are busier when it's nice out but the busiest I've seen it is noon-2pm when dog walkers from around the city fill it with up to 40 dogs the last time I tried counting! and there was plenty of room for all of them; the swimmers fetched tennis balls from the water, the runners chased each other in the field, and the older dogs relaxed in the plentiful shade. The only reason it doesn't get 5-stars is the same as another reviewer mentioned. The city hasn't really claimed it with much more than the sign when you first pull up. It would be great if the trash was picked up regularly, they paved the parking lot or the walking path around the perimeter, and/or ideally installed a fresh water fountain with doggie bags dispenser.

I actually really like this. It's very local and it's next to a community center. I wouldn't say this is a touristy site, but I will say it's pleasant to walk around the neighborhood during the day...lots of young people.
