Had such a great experience getting 2 of my racquets restrung here! Everyone in the shop was so friendly and knowledgeable. I have not touched my racquets, much less changed my strings, in 8 years & I didn't really have any idea of what strings I wanted. So I walked in, asked for a recommendation based on my current playing habits and asked for something that was more durable as I didn't want to have to change strings too frequently. They asked me when I wanted to pick it up and I said I would come in Wednesday (which was 2 days after I brought them in) sometime after 5 PM. When I went in on Wednesday to pick my racquets up, I was greeted immediately with friendly hellos and didn't even need to tell them my name and why I was there. They were putting the finishing touches on my racquets right as I walked in and had them in my hand within a minute of walking in. But, the owner of the store was able to help us with all of that! He recommended the Yonex Ezone 100 for my wife and it was PERFECT! A few days later, my wife and I decided it was time for me to graduate from my Head Flexpoint, so we went back to the store yesterday. This time, we were helped by a younger gentleman who was just as knowledge, helpful, and friendly as the owner. I simply told him all the things I preferred about a racquet and we eventually decided that the Yonex Vcore 100L. I haven't tried the racquet yet, but I can tell I'm going to really like it. When I hold the racquet, it feels SO good in my hands. I'm really excited to try it later tonight! One of the best parts about Tennis Academy is their prices too. My wife and I bought our racquets for $199.99 + tax each. That might sound like a lot to new tennis players, but Tennis Warehouse is selling our same racquets for $250! Not to mention, whenever you buy a new racquet, it comes with FREE stringing! Oh, and it doesn't matter which string you want on it, still free! Tennis warehouse makes you pay for your stringing no matter what, and Cerritos Tennis technically charges you for strings if you don't want the synthetic gut they give you for free with every racquet. First time restringing my basically new blade v9 and it came back with two very noticeable chunks. The guy didn't even mention it and their carelessness also seems to be shown through their attitudes. I'm thankful it isn't a chip but pisses me off since racket was basically new Look at the photos the one with the orange grip is 5 days before the restringing and within those 5 days I played once very lightly and the third photo is today with the chip Edit: since I can't respond to the reply. I meant new as in absolutely NO PAINT CHIPS there were only scratches on the grommets and a small on the left side. The paints chips were 100% not there before I dropped it off. Yes, the racket was used but there were no paint chips at all when I brought it in and I inspected it beforehand. Conclusion: Two Thumbs Up! In this day and age where we tend to buy all things from online stores, Tennis Rackets are ones that you will not benefit from online purchase. Small, specialty stores such as this one, can never be outdone by any of the online stores. I won't, and shouldn't reveal any price information, but from my personal experience,.... it is worthwhile to drive and come in person to purchase. As I opened up my wallet, this was a rare few time that I was actually pleased to depart with my money. (boo hoo money ... hurray new racket !!) Another thing is, it is so important to touch and handle the racket in person. On the website, the racket looks great. But when I actually saw the rackets in person, many were disappointing in terms of looks, color, feel and swing weight. (Remember, customizing will not change the original personality of the racket). It is not unusual to come in lookin to buy a particular model, but ending up with something entirely different. (That itself is a tennis journey) The shop was very friendly and the owner was very knowledgeable without being biased on particular brands and models. I felt comfortable being advised without feeling led towards any particular direction of my purchase. Being a Korean-American we have our own sub-culture. Myself, having lived here since I was 7, can also feel a different "vibe" when among full Korean speaking congregation. But one thing that I am confident on, is this place is very respectful and friendly. The only culture you need here is the "love" for tennis and the Tennis culture. If you want to start a conversation, just say something like: "That new Prostaff RF97 is a bit softer that the regular 97...." "Ha ha ha,.... those guys at Babalot. What will they think of next." "The Clash 100 is a total hype! The Clash 100Pro on the other hand is the real thing!" "That new paint job on the Head Extreme and the Radical is ridiculous!" Don't reveal you age by saying things like: "Bjorn can take on the Mac any day of the week on clay." "Do you have Prince rackets?" "What happened to Pro-Kennex. Are those still on sale?" "Penn Champions are so much cheaper than the USOpen. Are they any good?" So after hanging out for a while, it was time to go back home, back to my cave, back to my couch, back to my netflix series. Afterall, COVID is still going on. I can't stay out endless hours a day.... like back on March 15, 2020. So I ended up buying a Clash Pro to match my first one. I used to be a string breaker. But now that I am older, for the life of me I can't seem to break one of these Ploy strings. I probably didn't need the second matching racket, but it would feel like having only one shoe. This place has the best prices for all things tennis-related. I go here first for everything, much cheaper than online. I can't say enough good things about this place. Back in 2010 I came here as a high school varsity player when the store first opened...12 years later this place is exactly what I remember it to be: best prices on tennis equipment with lots of variety and friendly service. I think it's actually even better now. Here's some tips and hopefully helpful info... 1. Joey is extremely knowledgeable about tennis and finding the right equipment for you. I was looking for a new racket since it's been years since I've played--he listened to what I was looking for an recommended a Yonex EZONE 100. Normally I'm hesitant to buy before demoing the racket, but I trusted my instincts and went with his recommendation anyway. He recommended a polyester/multifilament hybrid (free, by the way, since every racket comes with free string and not just the cheap synthetic gut stuff) suggested a tension of 50, and had my racket ready in 24 hours. And OMG the racket and setup was spot on with what I wanted from a racket! No idea how he was able to pinpoint what I wanted, but he did, and he has never even seen me hit a ball. 2. He stocks Wilson, Head, Yonex, and Babolat rackets primarily. Lots of grip size choices available so you don't have to wait for it to come in. I don't think there's a racket he DOESN'T have when it comes to what the pros play with. Junior rackets also available and cheaper pre-strung rackets for beginners. 3. String selection is huge. I saw Babolat, Solinco, Tecnifibre, Head, Luxilon, Wilson, Yonex...he pretty much has all the popular strings in multiple gauges. 4. In most case you can get your rackets strung within 24 hours. 5. Did I mention the price? With all this inflation hitting us on nearly everything, I feel like this place has not raised its prices just because it can. String and stringing prices are similar to what I remember when I played 10 years ago. 6. Nice shoe and bag collection, lots of variety and sizes available. Whatever you find online that you like, check here first to see if he has it or can order it for you. 7. Rackets are strung using electronic machines for accurate tension (vs. crank which is faster but less accurate). Try to come during the week to get the best access on new shipments of stuff coming in every week --this place gets busy on the weekends. read more
