Tennis LA is great. You're placed at the appropriate skill level for where you are, they adjust it if you're too good or not good enough for that level, to ensure you play against opponents at or close to your level. Make your own match arrangements; via email or text, play as often or as seldom as you want, agree on a time and place with an opponent, one of you reserves the court, you split the cost, and that's it. Standings kept online for easy access and then after each season (roughly two months or so) playoffs are organized for you and a winner of that season is determined via the playoffs. The players in the league are great. It's a fun league to play in. The organization is sub-par. The person who manages the league isn't even in the same state much less the same state and uses an arbitrary system to review what level you're playing in, even if the matches are competitive. If you ask a question to the administrator, you get a pretty curt response without any thought to the situation. So easy to hide behind an email and not actually be a leader or a good manager. Highly recommended program. You have to contact other players and set up your own matches. There is a suggested schedule but you can play anyone anytime. I've In the League for 4 months now and so far I've gotten 17 matches in. Very competitive matches as you are pitted against players with the same rating as yourself( currently a 3.5). So far all players have been friendly. As for the bad reviews, if you wanna move up then beat up your "lower competition" and force the administrators of the program to move you up. The owners of this company do not live anywhere near Los Angeles. The rating of tennis player levels was extremely poor. I had to write to them twice before they did anything about it, and then there were only two people who lived less than a one hour each way drive from me. Again I wrote to owners, who tried to tell me I should be able to drive from Santa Monica to Glendale in 20 minutes if I played 'early'. I tried to politely explain that this was inaccurate and a one hour + each way commute in LA, to which they responded in a one word email 'Wow'. Their customer service and attitude suck. The owners of this online company are non-responsive, communicate online only, are short-tempered and do not fairly rate players, after having played over 100 matches at the same ranking level I was bumped down after I came back from injury, several levels. I was also a victim of their dictatorial ways as I was treated unfairly as the other reviewer very eloquently posted in an earlier review. This league is a waste of your time, as not enough players participate and its poorly managed. Their attitude stinks when you raise any concerns, as they are only concerned about your league payments and not much more (in fact they would bump me down in playing level in retribution for bringing up unfair practices, without informing me of course) and they do not treat everyone equitably. I have also filed with the Better Business Bureau as they have discriminated against me, constantly bumping me down whenever I spoke up. In fact they threatened to ban me when I had a difference of opinion. Their customer service and attitude suck. Stick with the USTA. So this isn't a "business" as in, walk into a store and buy a racquet, but I think it's great. It's a tennis league in LA that actually gets you out on the courts and playing! There's a $30 registration fee for a season, and different skill levels of leagues. You must play a certain # of matches before a certain date to stay "active" in the league. Whether you're the next Roger Federer, or you're still confused about whether red or green is inbounds, you can find other people around your level. I have been a part of this league for about 3 and a half years. So far I have played over 200 matches against players of varying playing styles and levels. Even though I had my differences with the organizer of the league I have to say it's the best system for those who want a most flexible league. You play any player you can set up a match with, any time any day. There are no set schedules so you can play as many matches as you like. There is only a deadline for players to have "X" amount of wins by a predetermined date to get into playoffs. The more you play the cheeper the league. I am playing a fee season right now because I played 20+ matches. It's a great easy way to find others who are into tennis. This is a fantastic league! Many players, prizes for participation and for tournaments. Every 3 or 4 months the league starts and you are rewarded for more play. You then setup matches at times and locations that are convenient for both players. The website is always up to date with rankings. It's great!
