Gave them a second, third, and fourth chance... This was probably my 7th time joining zog sports league and EVERY TIME there is a screw up. I really liked joining to stay active and getting to meet new people. However I won't be joining their leagues any longer and I urge you all to do the same. This time I joined a basketball league in Koreatown. Perhaps a new location would be better... The whole setup was a mess- players didn't know which team they were on, refs didn't show up, and parking was a nightmare (ok, parking isn't technically their fault). We only played 3 games total - the rest were either forfeited or played half court because none of the teams and players showed up. Before I didn't blame Zog but this has been a recurring scenario every season which leads me to believe they are padding their roster and teams. We were promised to have two referees every week - only one shows up every week. We always have to have a player on a team to track score and fouls because of this. Our final game of the season AND playoffs were cancelled because they didn't properly secure the venue. They didn't offer us refunds and gave us a laughable $5 credit to join future leagues. You have one important job that is to secure the venue and couldn't even do that... To sum it up... DO NOT JOIN SAVE YOUR MONEY. Another note they didn't mention anything about charity and which org we would like to donate to this time (which they clearly state in their website). This is literally my second time signing up for a sport with Zog my first experience was okay not bad not great just okay. So it lead me to give them another try. I usually do my reviews before paying my hard earned money with an organization especially being a single mother of two very active teenagers. So this year I wanted to do something for myself and found a Pickleball league. I know nothing about Pickleball but was willing to try it with Zog since I've had a previous experience with them. They ended up canceling games then ran into a contract issue which happens I guess but then they changed the date and location of our games which totally doesn't work now with my schedule smh ‍ I requested a refund and they refused. I wish o had came to Yelp and read others review on here about not getting their refund as well. While it's not in the $1K owed to me it's my hard earned money that I could've put towards doing something with my boys then. I feel like I'm justified for a refund because of their mishap and they just want us to fall in line when they changed the date location and everything about a supposed to be organized team event. Im definitely going to seek legal action and see if this organization has done anyone else wrong financially because it's giving "Scam" at this point! Why not give refunds for your mishap it's only right! Yea I'm going to look more into this because this wrong on so many levels. Zog has gone downhill a lot since my original review, although I don't know how noticeable the problems are to people who haven't been playing for a while. The league is still relatively well-run, and if you're just a casual player who doesn't really care much, I'm sure it's perfectly fine. But, for all the people I know and have talked to that have been playing for a few years now, there's a unanimous feeling that there are a lot of problems with the league. First, there is the cost. Zog raises the prices every year for really no reason other than that they can. What you actually get for that annual increase either stays the same or marginally gets worse. The prices are pretty insane - e.g. minimum $950 per team for a six-game softball season, $1050 per team for a seven-game football season, and those prices are if you sign up by a certain time. Second, management is kind of a mess. There is constant turnover, and the current person running the league is very apathetic to complaints/concerns. In the past, Zog LA management was very open to feedback and addressing concerns, but current management clearly does not care. Last problem is the social aspect of Zog is pretty nonexistent these days. The early days of Zog focused on getting new people to meet each other and socialize at happy hours after the games. They've basically given up caring about that. Also, now that the league has been around for a few years, a lot of people have played on the same team with the same people for a long time and are no longer interacting with any new people. It's become less of a social experience and more just like an organized competitive league that you show up to, get things done, then go home. Sadly, I think they slowly realized that just by virtue of being at all competent, they are much better than any of their competitors, so there's no point in putting in much effort. As far as I can tell, there is no true competitor in LA to Zog, so they don't have any motivation to improve their product, charge less, etc. Such a bummer, because when I first joined them, it was a really cool experience. read more

Zog reminds me of recess. After long days at work, finally I get to go outside and play! A friend told me about ZogSports. I was hesitant because I've never played any organized sports, am not in great shape, and know only general football rules. I signed up for Touch Football as "extremely casual." Perfect fit! I found that other players were inclusive and there to have fun. The referees and staff (thanks Caitlin & Matt) are patient and helpful. I tried a different LA social sports league one season and was disappointed that it wasn't as friendly or organized. Zog is an important part of my week now. I look forward to happy hour, joking with friends, and burning off the tension of busy days. I currently play on 3 Zog football teams. It's a stress release. If you want to play for fun and you are not overly competitive this is the league for you. As for myself I have played competitive softball pretty much all my life not to mention i have played in college too so I find the level of competiveness a little on the weak side. I have met some cool people and they do give some money to charity so that's a good thing. Not sure how much goes to them but at least they donate. I think that's their motto, playing for a cause since their league fees are super expensive. There a few things I dislike about the league. One is that they claim that we have a sponsor but never get anything from the sponsor. So how is that sponsorship? Not sure about that one. I would usually not say anything about it but they put the sponsor on the shirts that WE pay for. Shouldn't we decide if we want the sponsor logo on our shirts or not? What happens if we don't like the sponsor ? haha anyway... Second thing I dislike is that some of the umpires are new never had experience umping a game. They train them which is fine but are not completely aware of the rules. This causes a lot of conflicts between teams of who is right an who is wrong. Lastly, this is a 'for profit' organization so the fees are pretty high compared to other leagues. This league only has seven games plus playoffs. If you don't mind paying that then give it a GO. They can't seem to put together a schedule -- they change game times last minute (without informing the teams) and sometimes forget to even schedule games entirely. AND IT'S SO EXPENSIVE! Last season they had a "mix up" with our schedule 3 times! WE ONLY HAVE 6 GAMES. And, when you complain, they do absolutely nothing to remedy the issue. This league is dying and a waste of money. I have played in Zog's soccer league for the last few seasons. I have three major complaints with the league. First, the referee quality is subpar. Originally the games were exciting and fairly refereed (mostly a hands off approach but even for both sides). In the recent seasons the referee mindset has changed to minimize players' ability to actually play the game. Calls are extremely frequent, random, and most importantly inconsistent. Look run games how you want but rules must be fairly applied to both teams. Secondly, the schedule of the games is designed to make it extremely hard to socialize outside of the games. Games are frequently scheduled 8pm or later in the evening leaving no time to hang out with your team unless you plan on having drinks before the game. The league scheduling also places you against the same teams multiple times preventing you from meeting more than a small handful of players. Thirdly, the matching of teams in the leagues is horrid. Teams are placed by their own ranking. This leaves certain teams winning the same leagues over and over without being moved up or changed. I understand that priority should be given to where players want to play, but it is very unfriendly to new players when the new league is full of ex-D1 players yelling at their team the entire game. Sadly, new management decisions have left this league under supported by real staff, and the trends seem to be on the decline. There are plenty of competitors in the area offering real soccer, and I suggest you seek them out. read more

Women be warned! Not a good co-ed league. Poorly trained staff and referees lead to escalated uncontrolled competition, verbal harassment, men cussing at women, people (mainly women) getting hurt in every single game, and deflated fun... It's only a matter of time before this league is shut down for good due to gross negligence after a serious injury takes place. The league doesn't check IDs before games so any team can bring in any random person to play recklessly for one game. The league began allowing players to wear cleats which has made collisions more serious. Touch football field setup is VERY dangerous. The fields share sidelines which results in players from other games spontaneously flying into your field and unexpectedly smashing someone playing in another game. I have personally witnessed women break limbs, noses, get concussions, and several men run into trees that lined the end-zone corners at Culver Park. I played 2 seasons for Zog before realizing it was simply too dangerous and not fun as a co-ed league. I play in many other co-ed leagues that are well run including roller hockey and soccer. Zog is the bottom of the barrel in terms of organized sports leagues. Yelp Reviews are FAKE! Do you find it suspicious to see so many picture-less yelp accounts who have only reviewed Zog giving 5 stars?? This organization is a facade of structure and a sham company. I know for a fact that several "5 star" reviews were posted by pervious employees who were instructed to give a 5 star review while employed by Zog. read more

LADIES IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING JOINING ZOG SPORTS TOUCH FOOTBALL LEAGUE, DO NOT, AND BE WARNED THAT THIS IS A RECKLESS LEAGUE AND SAFETY IS NOT A PRIORITY. I joined Zog Sports this last summer. Thought it would be a fun, social, carefree bonding experience for my husband and I. Boy was I wrong. On July 7th, I was doing my part by "volunteer reffing" a game for Zog Sports. I use "volunteer" loosely as its a requirement not actually a voluntary decision. I was told to stand on a shared sideline between two active games and run the game clock. Within minutes into the game I was blindsided from behind by a receiver on the opposite field. I was smashed into the ground and the fall shattered my left elbow. I had to have a very complicated surgery that required the installation of 6 permanent screws and a metal plate into my elbow and arm. Part of my elbow bone was completely chipped off and removed and I also had to have a tendon reattached. It was a traumatic accident, a very painful recovery, and I'm left with permanent damage. I'm still in physical therapy weekly and I'll never have full range of motion again. Even after my sideline injury and our suggestion to change the field setup, Zog Sports did nothing. Talk about foolishness. The "paid referees" are unprofessional and not thoroughly trained. I was also verbally insulted and cursed out in a game prior to my accident by one of their "paid referees" who was playing on an opposing team. Because of the lack of quality officials these games are not supervised in the proper way to avoid injuries like mine and others. The male players get way too rough and the referees do nothing to stop it. In fact, a girl on our team broke her nose the next game and another girl was knocked out unconcious. That's three women on the same team seriously injured within a few weeks. Zog Sports requires each player to sign a waiver covering them for gross negligence, but that doesn't mean they can be irresponsible and careless. It's time Zog Sports takes a good, hard look at the way they run their league, because negligence like I saw in just a few weeks with Zog Sports is inexcusable and despicable. read more

ZOG is amazing. It's such a perfect mix of sports-loving working professionals who moved to LA and sports-loving working professionals who are native to LA. I initially started playing soccer when my friend needed a spot filled on his work team. That led to me joining another soccer team that started as free agents and grew into a close knit-family. And, now I'm also on a football team that hangs out after every game and organizes get togethers on weekends that people voluntarily love showing up to. No matter what your skill level is, there is a division in each league that fits everyone from beginners to people who played in college. All in all, whether you moved to LA or were born in LA, ZOG is a great way to get fun exercise in on the weekend while meeting the coolest people you otherwise would have never met. Fan for life (with life being defined as 45+ years old when I can't run any more). Tip: I did join 1 soccer team that didn't have good team chemistry. If you join a team that doesn't have good team chemistry or you feel the level of play is not your level, I'd recommend signing up for a new team or making friends with people on an existing team you do like and joining their roster the next season. I've seen new players cycle in and out of teams every season for one reason or another -- so open spots on great teams are always opening up. And, a great team with the right level of competition makes all the difference. :) read more

Great exercise and an awesome way to meet new people; basketball league is straight up jungle ball tho . Basketball rules need serious modifying. Since there's no consequence to fouling, driving to the basket turns into a no holds barred, tenuous situation. People can and most likely will get hurt out there sooner or later. Setting foul limit per player to 4 would be beneficial to player safety, improved play, and a better product. read more

ZogSports is a fantastically fun way to meet people. I moved to Los Angeles 3 years ago knowing only 2 people and immediately began looking for a social sports league so I could find some friends outside of work. Honestly, I chose Zog because I recognized the name from the New York area and figured if they were becoming a national brand they must be fairly well organized. I started with Sand Volleyball on a team of strangers and had a blast. I worked hard to make sure everyone on the team was having a good time and came out to the happy hour bar after the game - and I'm proud to say all those people have become my best friends. I've played in several other social sports leagues. Every league seems to have the same variation across sports: some sports are better organized, some sports have better refs, some have better competition (sportsmanship). Maybe it's something about the games themselves that cause it - I don't know. Overall my experience with Zog has been the same: I've always been happy with my experiences on the field, but there's always room for improvement. More importantly, the managers of Zog work very hard to address every issue players bring up to them and the league is constantly improving. What really sets Zog apart from other social sports leagues, though, is the community of people who play Zog. Most people who play Zog are simply awesome people to know - and in my case, some of the best people I've met in LA. I won't guarantee that you'll make a bunch of friends just by showing up and playing - but I will guarantee that if you're interested in meeting some cool folks, you will have the opportunity to do so with Zog. Zogsports! I played indoor volleyball and did not have a team of my own. No worries! They place you in teams depending on how good you think you are. I must say my team was pretty awesome! I did not witness any harassment among teams members, nor did I witness any disagreements or negativities! There are people that can get pretty competitive BUT for the most part everyone is pretty respectful towards each other. You definitely do NOT have to be in great shape or be a pro athlete. If you want to have fun, socialize, network, and you have no problem being active then this is the league for you! I do advise you though to bring your own first aid kit (ice packs for the most part) there is definitely a slight chance you can get a minor boo boo. Remember you are playing and there are other players around you doing the same, accidents do tend to happen and balls do hit your face so don't be mad! read more

Zog is the best. I've been a regular at Sunday football at SMC and Saturday beach football since its inception. If you don't have a full team or you're afraid about joining a team alone as a free agent, fear not, it's an amazingly friendly and easy experience. I signed up for Zog football a couple years ago as a free agent and since then have made life long friends and still play on various teams with people I met that first season as a loner. It's also great for all skill levels. Matt, the league commish, does a great job separating teams into the right divisions based on skill/experience level, so you don't have to worry about going up against a team of ex-division 1 college athletes if you just want to play some casual football. If you're looking for a break from work, to relive that awesome feeling you had playing middle school football, or are just looking for some cool people to hang out with, Zog is the place for you. My girlfriend and I wanted to meet some new people and get out for some fun. I have always played baseball all my life and she has never played. This is for begginers and advanced players. If you are looking for a great time and fun people, then come on out and play! We signed up for softball leagues, and have not missed a season yet!. They play on two different fields, one is the Syd Kronenthal park, and the other is in Culver City. The Syd Kronenthal infield dirt needs a lot of help. Their are big holes and someone will get hurt soon. The bases on both parts are not hooked to the ground, which causes another safety concern. It constantly happens when people get into the moment, they slip on the base and get pretty banged up. I hope ZogSorts fixes this. We always have a blast at every game! Oooo yea, and everyone goes out for drinks afterwords at Rush Street. This is a fun time as well. The downside on a couple of things. There are only 7 games in a season, unfortunately twice the same team for fitted on us, due to no one showing up. So we had to pay a full season for 5 games, which ticked us off. We really wanted to play! Second, the games are suppose to go an 1hr and 15min. The umps normally cut the games off at 50-60min, which seems to be a let down. Signed up for indoor volleyball for the summer season. Although we did not like the location in Hollywood High, all of us were still having a great time. Zogsports listened to our feedback and will now be having indoor volleyball in Echo Park Rec Center. I suspect there will be better parking and less traffic. I've been playing softball through ZogSports for three seasons, and my experience has been great. I first joined as a free agent and knew literally no one in the league, and since then I've been lucky to make friends with new people from across Los Angeles whom I otherwise would probably have never met, and on top of that I've been able to revisit a sport I hadn't played in years. The league is very well organized with its scheduling and notifications throughout the season, and the general manager, Casey Pladus, is always very timely with her responses to emails. When I met her at the end of the season party, she was super welcoming, and genuinely interested in hearing about my experience playing. The umpires are all very friendly, and seem to truly enjoy being there, which makes playing even more fun. I look forward to playing every Sunday, and I highly recommend this league for anyone looking to meet people, get outside, and have a good time. read more

I have been playing Volleyball with Zog in both LA and Atlanta for 5 years now and greatly appreciate the organization and consistency of the program. The online platform makes it very simple to research and register for different seasons, other leagues often don't have a great web presence and therefore it is difficult to get to consistent and dependable competition. I've played in a variety of adult social sports leagues in several cities throughout the country and ZogSports LA has been by far the best. I've been playing in soccer, basketball & volleyball leagues since I moved to LA a year and a half ago and have made most of my friends through it. They offer a wide range of sports in different areas of the city and also have end of season parties/awards. Being the captain of my soccer team I send them an excessive amount of emails, but they always respond quickly. There is always room for overall improvement but keep up the good work!! read more

I've been playing beach volleyball with Zog for over a year now and love it! The staff and the players are super nice. I feel like I can be competitive without feeling embarrassed or people getting mad at me for messing up. It's very organized and I feel like paying for it rather than rec, holds people accountable so people are showing up to the games. You can sign up alone or with a friend or with a team which makes it great for anyone trying Zog out. They offer plenty of sports. You also get a tshirt or tank when you sign up. I moved to Los Angeles a few years ago for work and being new to the area I was interested in finding some fun activities to do and a way to meet some new people. I happen to hear about Zog Sports from a coworker who was setting up a team to play in the Santa Monica Touch Football League, and since I love to get outside and play sports, I signed up not knowing what to expect but hoping to have fun and meet some new people. I have to say I'm so glad I joined the league! It has been such a blast and I'm currently playing in my 8th straight season! I love Zog Sports! I couldn't get enough so I started another team to play in the Southbay Touch Football League and have been going strong playing every Wednesday and Sunday each week for two seasons now. Not only have I had a great time playing football I have met so many awesome people and have had some amazing times on and off the field! Playing in the last 8 seasons, along with being a team captain, I have had the pleasure of working with the Zog Sports staff, and they are equally amazing! Matt, Gretchen, and Josh make playing in Zog worth it! They have always worked with me on scheduling and every request I have had. My teams were originally formed with coworkers and given the great nature of Zog and the dedication to helping charities my work has helped us with our team dues and the Zog staff have been instrumental in making that a smooth process. Zog seems to be expanding here in LA recently and with all the leagues going on there arose a scheduling conflict with the end of season party and the Zog staff worked there butts off to rework our schedule so everyone from every league could attend! It's good to know that I'm not only having a great time playing sports and enjoying happy hours with amazing people but my team is able to give back. I'm happy to say that I will be playing football for many seasons to come and may just end up branching out to the other sports Zog offers! I've been playing Zog softball for a few seasons now -- and every session something goes wrong. The lights don't go on for the night games, the other team doesn't show (which you don't get notice about), or the ump doesn't show. And while they always apologize for the inconvenience, they have never reimbursed for the lost games. As it is the seasons are only 6 games (for roughly 1K). I'm told there is a Santa Monica league that is less expensive, longer and better run that I'll be looking into, even though it's farther away. read more
