We went a little out of our way to meet some friends on a road trip in Aiken SC. This was one of their favorite places and I'm so happy they didn't steer us wrong. We didn't pay since they treated us but the prices on the menu seemed very reasonable. It seems like this restaurant was right off of one of the main drags, but the sign was not very big so we definitely had to pay close attention to the GPS. It's a small unassuming building, but it does have its own private parking lot. We got there right at 11 o'clock on a Monday morning, right when they opened. We were seated right away. Since we had already come three hours on a road trip, I went straight to the restroom and was pleased with how clean it was. When I got back to the table, I ordered a water and a medium beer, which was 25 ounces. I'm not sure how much the beer cost, but my lunch was $10.99 for two flautas, rice and guacamole salad. It was all delicious. My husband's steak quesadilla looked amazing and he said it was excellent. The service was outstanding and our waiter checked on us several times. I'm not sure if we will ever be back in this area but I was very impressed and would definitely recommend this establishment! read more

Dinner out after making it to Wednesday!! Stopped by Tequila's on the way home... they moved in November and their new location is perfect for a quick stop after work.... Greeted quickly and brought chips and salsa AND.... Queso with beef!!!! Yahoo! They had new tacos in their menu..which sound like Street tacos with onion and cilantro....yes please I got the Carne Asada Tacos knowing I'm good for 1 and take the rest for lunch tomorrow! Holy Guacamole!!! Such great portions and so much flavor.... Squeezing the lime over the onions cilantro and that steak..... droolapalooza Yup this was an epic recommendation.... Service was extremely slow. We waited 15 mins just to get menus. Another 20 mins just to get drinks and food ordered. We ordered alcohol - one tasted like just a frozen drink, no alcohol. Mine tasted like sour orange juice. They did offer up remake but I knew it would take another 20 mins. Food - I ordered there pollo adobe - it came with way more ingredients listed in the description and unfortunately my chicken breast was super dry. The other meal was super chimichanga which came with 3. Then person who ordered this enjoyed. They do give you a cheese dip and a salsa dip with chips while you wait. Salsa is spicy and cheese dip has chorizo and beans in it. Though our waiter was extremely friendly I feel like maybe he was just super busy and our table paid the price. This place is awful. I will neverrrr go back. my nachos were in puddle of slimy watery cheese, the tomatoes weren't even ripe - zero flavor. The saddest nachos. Then to add insult to injury, they charged me for the lettuce and cilantro and cheese that was supposed to go on my taco only. I never asked the waitress to put that on my nachos but they did and they charged me for it. To be fair, my abualitas dishes were extraordinary and I cannot use as the standard because then all resturaunts would miserably fail! I do however have had my fair share of Mexican food. My wife wanted Mexican food and as a good husband, I let her choose. She wanted to try this resturaunt. First thing I noticed is that it is loud, crowded and cold. Nevertheless, we ordered. Chips and salsa ( Not really Mexican) came out. Tasty salsa, fresh chips. Great dip. I ordered Carnitas in a red sauce. My wife ordered a steak. I am used to the red sauce being a bit spicy but I knew none of the food would be. By the way, Carnitas are chunks of cooked pork smothered in a spicy red sauce. Ok, red sauce. Though it was good, it was overcooked to were there no longer was a meaty toughness or texture. It was too soft. I could smash and spread like peanut butter. NOT how it should be. My wife commented on the beans. "Were they whipped?", she said. The flavor was good but the texture reminded her of baby food. The rice was the same. The tortillas were no different than the many other places I gave been. Steamed and undercooked. Where this started I have no idea but most resturaunts serve tortillas like this. This is sup common, I once calked home and asked. Bad mistake. I got chewed out or laughed at by aunts, cousins. How can I think tortillas are supposed to be steamed and undercooked? My wife's steak was good. Better than my Carnitas. The overdoneness of the food overshadowed the taste. So all our friends told us to go here and we finally did. The bean dip/queso was good. To my surprise it didn't taste to much like beans. Which was fine by me. The cheese steak burrito was delicious. Would recommend it to anyone and the other dish(which for the life of me I can't remember the name) was good as well. I would good back!! read more

Seated At table 15 minutes before anyone noticed we were sitting there... we ordered immediately. Experience went down hill from there !!! Waited 10 more minutes, Had to ask for chips, waited another 10 minutes to get our margaritas( just regular margaritas nothing special), ask for extra napkins/straws waited, I finally went to the front got them myself !!!! Sometimes I had to ask several people for the same simple request !! I asked the bartender what their "happy hour" special was and she proceeded to tell me it was over. It was 5:50pm and it was over at 6pm. She said the computer is 10 minutes ahead? I drank a beer and honestly it tasted as if they do not clean the taps. My beer had floating matter in it and tasted awful. Service is slow and they don't make you feel to welcomed. By far the best Mexican restaurant in Aiken. Great atmosphere and what I want when I go to a Mexican restaurant...the music, the colors and decor, great bar. The Carne Asada was very tasty and fresh. Overall bad Mexican food. Nothing fresh. The salsa was no good. Bland, and maybe old? Just not good! It tasted like watered down tomato paste with some tabasco. Also with the chips - they serve a disgusting sauce, what looks like a queso (cheese) sauce with ground beef. My husband ordered a beef burrito with queso sauce, which he said was bland and not great, tho he did eat it.* I ordered a spinach enchilada. Prior to ordering, I asked the waitress, who was Spanish-speaking with very little English, if their beans are made with manteca. Manteca is lard in Español, and commonly used in Mexican food. I have never before met a food service person, fluent in Español, who does not know what manteca is... until yesterday. She looked confused, "Manteca?" The beans definitely tasted like they had lard in them. Well, they just looked and tasted gross, as did the spinach enchilada. The spinach tasted old, and it was cold, and there was no cheese, and the red sauce was so bland, I think it was the exact same as the salsa. It was not served with any garnish, no lettuce, no cheese, no sour cream or guacamole, definitely nothing fresh at all. It was so disgusting that I lost my appetite. The waitress seemed uninterested in us, and she did not seem to care that I did not eat the food on my plate. The only saving grace for this restaurant was the margarita. Although, it was way over-priced. But this is the reason I am giving them an extra star. * Unfortunately, my husband proceeded to get very sick today (day after eating), with difficult stomach and bowel issues. Been coming to Tequilas just about once a week if not twice. The food is always on point! Flavorful and big portions. If you leave still hungry it's your fault. The servers are always kind and courteous even if they are short handed. Drinks are delicious and you can't go wrong with a quick lunch visit either. A Mexican dish and a 32 or 40 oz draft beer deff hits the spot. My personal favorites are the Super Chimichangas and all of the Fajitas! Amo los Tequilas! read more

Iggy and I visited for the first time after reading that Tequila's was nominated for Aiken's best Mexican restaurant. Disappointment.... Her chili verde was so salty, it was inedible. The replacement dish (combo chicken taco and pork tamale) was just ok. My shrimp cocktail was tasty and the avocado salad was mediocre in size and flavor. Our server was polite and responsive which is why I'm rating three stars instead of two. At this point, we're still looking for a good Mexican restaurant.... sigh. read more

We ate here for the first time last week. The dining room was very clean and presentable, but it appeared that they tried to put too many booths along the walls; consequently, the seats were uncomfortably close to the tables, even for me as a 165-pound male. The service was good -- no complaints. The menu was standard Tex-Mex fare with prices similar to other restaurants. The food was not good. We would rate it below all the other Tex-Mex restaurants in Aiken that we have tried. We cannot recommend this location. Hopefully, they will get their act together, as there seems to be a strong demand for Tex-Mex in Aiken, and I don't want any business to fail. The tortilla on my chicken quesadilla quickly became wet and soggy from water leaking from the chicken inside. I was so disappointed and wish they would strain/drain/dry their chicken before putting it on their tortillas!! Then when our waitress came back to the table toward the end of our meal and my husband asked her for a refill of his drink and to go box (his meal was fine). The waitress said ok, then to our dismay.. continued clearing off our table and the one behind ours!! I could understand if they were busy, but they were not and clearly our request was not a priority for her! Even my husband was like, what the?? Not a good experience to say the least great atmosphere but this restaurant is very stingy with the food very small portions most Mexican restaurants give you beans and rice this place only gives you 1 and charge extra for the other. Since Tequila's has opened we have only been to the "competition" (if you can even call it that) across the street once and regretted going the entire time we were there. I love their pollo con crema! It's soooo good. They have the best drinks here too!! All of their mixed drinks are super flavorful and do not lack in any category. They also have fresh waters which a lot of Mexican restaurants do not have. My favorite is the horchata here and second would have to be the agua de Jamaica. The service is always great as well.
