Never had anything bad here!!!! We have been at least 10 times. Combos, shrimp quesadilla, fajitas, pork tamales, taquitos, street tacos. The margaritas are made PROPER!! You will taste and feel the tequila. Their salsa is my favorite of all the Mexican restaurants we have tried. It's just a touch of spicy. Perfect. Even the rice and beans are good and I typically don't eat them at any other establishments. Amazing food, friendly service, immersive atmosphere with painted walls and booths and food comes out fast. Stopped by alazan the other day after work with some friends. A standard tex-mex spot with chips and salsa, tex-mex fair, and cucumba margarita. I ordered the enchalada verde which had 3 enchiladas, one with shreded chicken, one with spinach, and one with cheese. The chicken enchilada had some shredded white meat chicken that was a bit too chewy for me. I preferred the spinach enchalada and the cheese enchelada, and I appreciated the variety. The salsa verde tasted similar to store bought salsa verde. It came with re-fried beans and mexican rice. The cucumber margarita was solid with a few slices of cucumber inside and refreshing cucumber flavor, a nice twist on the standard margarita. I would order this again. Overall, the food wasn't extremely impressive, but service was fine and the margarita was a nice way to end the work day. read more

The mex place is a hit or miss, staff can be sneaky or does not understand English. Food is generally good.

Food and service was once great, now it appears people go to a soso place . Additionally, many places are now charging for a credit card, which everyone uses, why not increase the meal price. The servers tip is calculated on this added charge. read more

We came in on a Friday afternoon with family for a late lunch/early dinner. As a party of 5, we were seated right away in one of the larger booths. Our waiter got out drink and appetizer orders promptly. We ordered some of their queso, which was delicious and each got small margaritas (which are very generous for smalls). The time between ordering our food and its arrival at our table was very fast! The burrito loco was the entire length of my plate and covered generously in white queso. I got it with steak, and it was very flavorful and delicious. I was not able to finish it all in one sitting and took leftovers home. My husband got the Alazan fajita, which had a variety of meats- chicken, steak, shrimp along with onions, green peppers and fresh tortillas. He finished it all and said it was amazing. The only thing I had a problem with is that the person who got the chips together in the bag they didn't do a great job of rolling it up and a lot of the chips spilled in the back. Down right one of the best Mexican restaurants. Coming from LA where there's an abundance of them, being in Augusta it's harder to come by quality places. Part of what makes a Mexican restaurant delicious and authentic are the people who run. The owner is there every morning through prep. He and his wife check to make sure their recipes are consistent. Through the interactions we've had with them, and watching them with their repeat customers they have people who've been going there for years. The ceviche, carnitas, and fajitas are my go to. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant east of the Mississippi! My wife is from Southern California and grew up on good, authentic Mexican food, and until we found this place, she has hated all the Mexican restaurants we've been to since moving to Georgia. The decor is that of every other Mexican restaurant, very colorful, very bright. Even the tables and booths are decorated. The service is great, we've always had someone greet us and get us seated right away, and all the waiters and waitresses are nice and smiley and happy to help with anything you may need or want. All of the staff also have the knowledge to answer any questions you may have about anything. The food is incredible! The salsa they give you is in a little canter instead of just in a little bowl so if you run out, you can just refill your bowl. We ate a ton of chips and salsa and had enough left over to smother our food in it. I've had a few different things off the menu and they've all been great. Whatever you decide to order here will impress you! This is the only Mexican restaurant we will go to now! read more

This was my first experience at El Alazan and I was impressed with the friendly and welcoming service. I was immediately seated at the bar, given chips and salsa and asked if I wanted a beverage. It was a very comfortable way to start my dinner. The chips were hot and fresh and the salsa was good...not great and not spicy. I ordered the Bandera Mexicana, which is an enchilada, a chimichanga and a relleno along with rice and beans. All three items were smothered in different sauces, verde, cheese and ranchero, respectively. The food was very good and was in front of me within 5 minutes of placing my order. Popped in here for lunch before our big trip on a recommendation. They quickly brought complementary chips and salsa which were both very good. The salsa comes in a small bottle that allows you to pour it out into the individual bowls they provided or on to your meal (a nice touch). I order the Pastor Torta and my wife had the tamale plate. My Torta was just ok, with a large amount of mayo masking the taste of the pork and other ingredients... My wife's tamale was pretty good but not the level she is still trying to find that she had in Costa Rica a few years back. Today I went to have a nice family lunch with my sister whos been out of town for 2 years. when we arrived they got our drinks and order and brought us the drinks and the food and the desert at the same time...then never came back. the desert was not finished and was missing the ice cream and whip (sopapilla) and my chicken burrito was soggy and filled with water. we sat there thirsty while all the waiters walked around laughing and standing around. i understand when your busy ... but you had two other tables with customers ... thats it. the owner eventually finally walks by asking if everything was okay and we explained our concerns and he went to the waitress. she came back finally and asked to take the plates .... not to fix the desert or maybe get us refills ? since we never got one. we then say our drinks are empty and she states "so you want a refill" with such a nasty attitude. and still never got it. we ask for the receipt and the desert to be taking off since we did not eat it due to not being complete and having no service to even complain or ask. she spoke to my family nasty. and said "well do you want the ice cream and whip"... ma'am like no we finished our meal 20 minutes ago. she then brought the receipt and it still had it on it. so we told her and she finally removed it. like i said i understand busy but that was not today. absolute horrible service and today was the first day i never tipped. I sure hope they get some people and this never happens to anyone else. you can have a bad day ! but not when your getting paid rate food:7/10 service:1/10 due to the owner not even checking to make sure things were done and 2 different ladies as waitresses did not do there job and treated customers with no respect read more

Another hidden gem in the Augusta area. As other Yelpers have said, the service is fast, the food is fast, and the portions are large. We arrived at about 5:30 and nobody was there yet. Within about 10 minutes, the place filled up. They had a wide variety of standard Mexican (American) fare and their prices were reasonable. We paid about $40.00 after the tip for three of us. We will be going back, no doubt. It's one of the best Mexican places we've found so far in Augusta. read more

I have been traveling for work and I got the Bandera Mexicana which is similar to the combo I just had down in el paso, and it blew it out of the water. Aside from the awkward winter entrance they have set up, you walk in and the warm, festive atmosphere transports you. I seriously felt a little like I was in Disney World! We were seated quickly, and drink orders and Chips were delivered promptly. For the meal I had the quesadilla Mexicana with chicken. It has beans, your choice of protein and cheese. They serve it with a side of guacamole salad. I did not eat it, but it looked nice and fresh. My friend had the pork carnitas. THE PORK. OMG. I may ask next time If I can just have a plate of that pork! It was amazing!!! Crispy on the outside, deliciously flavored. I personally don't eat onions- but I'm sure they complemented the pork well. All the sides were good as well. We stopped here for a late lunch, and ordered the steak and steak tacos and flan afterwards - all were spot on and tasty. The tortillas and everything else were fresh and the salsa was awesome. Our waiter was super helpful to us as we just moved to the area and needed change for laundry; and he counted out all the quarters he had in the till - it was a very kind gesture on his part. We just might wind up moving to Evans to be close to this joint. Upon entering the door, the interior takes a little while to adjust to with the brightly colored furniture, but once seated your mind and body adjust in preparation for some solid food. The servers are very friendly and attentive. The cheese dip here is very good. Their burritos are by far my favorite dish on the menu. They have one dish that comes with one steak and one ground beef burrito covered in sour cream and guacamole...how can you go wrong with that? I think it's called the Special Burritos. The shrimp quesadilla is also delicious. To be honest, I have been a fan of this restaurant well before they changed locations, but have yet to try a dessert, but I'm sure that the desserts are also tasty based on their entrees. read more

For 2 entrees, 2 beers, and a larger margarita you will be just north of $40 The place is small and is tacky like all the other places. They did have a great special on a half picture of margarita. The margarita tasted ok but definitely can tell they spiked it with grain alcohol due to the after taste. The salsa was good and they do have a very spice chipotle sauce. The entrees we had we good and of a large portion. Biggest issue is the AC can not handle the amount of people in the place. it was hot in there. Then there was the wait. Sooo, I'm not sure what experiences with Mexican food the people who gave this place a good review have had, but in my opinion it tasted like day old, middle school cafeteria grade Mexican-influenced food with leftovers. It was neither hot nor fresh, it was bland, the waiter was less than personable, the menu prices were incorrect and the establishment didn't even have an aroma indicative of the type of food. Would've been better off at Chipotle. Oh! And by the way, my friend and I have been on the toilet for the last 2 hours with explosive bowels.
