Altoona Storage Kings…read more To begin: I only answered "maybe" to the question: If I would refer people because it looks like they just opened a new indoor storage unit option for which I rented the outdoor. The indoor may not have the same issues as what comes with renting a drive up outdoor that's somewhat surrounded by a small grassy like meadow. Additional Details to keep in mind: RENTAL DATES: 05/25-08/25 UNIT SIZE: 5 x 10 (smallest size offered I believe) STORAGE UNIT: F1 (located in the back section of the property along the edge) RENTAL REASONS: College Storage for the summer. I choose to rent from Altoona Storage Kings was because after doing an online search of other Storage Companies in the are their customer reviews weren't as bad (I honestly don't member remember reading any bad reviews and I liked that I could drive right up to the unit instead of parking and pushing those push carts since it was just my daughter and I doing all the packing and moving. ONLINE BOOKING: renting the unit was extremely easy, I did everything online. Creating the online account took only minutes and their site shows the sizes and model so you know exactly what you're selecting. Of course most of the front ones were all taken but again the lot isn't that large so the ones in the back isn't to far to drive to. Payments are set up to came out automatically. THE PROBLEM: Now the issue was during move in day for my daughter. We drove up to the storage unit and backed up the car (which is another reason I just this type of storage because it's easy to drive up to without having to get out and take carts to the units) when I got to our unit I notice there were a lot of spider webs on the gate but since it's outside didn't put to much thought since it is outside so when we opened it i immediately notice a spider egg sack attached to the back of the wall as well as spider webs in that corners of the unit. We started to remove some bins and placed them in the truck as soon as the was placed on its side we immediately started to see spiders coming out the side of the drawers. I grabbed the broom and dust Pan to try and wipe them off but when I looked inside the dust pan was an even bigger spider and this when we started to notice all the different spiders all over the unit and her things. We took the bin out the car and threw it the side and more spiders was crawling out of it. We were completed disgusted and grossed out. My daughter could not stop itching thinking she had spiders on her. The entire unit was infested with all types of spider breeds they were big, small, brown and black. Some I've never even seen before. So we immediately went to the store to buy bug spray and the foggers along with gloves paper towels and mask. So I went back and even though the fogger said 1 per rpm I through all 3 in there. While we waited I called the management office who said that they never received any complaints about spiders which was hard for me to believe since the units directly across from mine had more webs covering their door. So he told me he was going to call his Exterminator to see if he was in the area and call me right back for which he did within like 5min and told me he wasn't available and that "spiders don't really hang out together" which blew my mind because the spiders in my unit definitely didn't get that memo because they were more than hanging together they were partying!! So he asked me to send him pics and at this point we were back at the dorms trying to unpack her other things because there is a time limit given for moving in and this who process took 2hrs a way from us. So when we got back neither of us wanted to reopen the unit because there was a big black spider at the entrance for which it must of crawled out so I asked if he could just come see for himself which he agreed (I'm not sure why he didn't offer that solution during my first call it would of saved slot of time but moving on) he comes with another gentleman and I will admit they were extremely nice and arrived within 15min. When they opened the unit I showed the webs the sacs and they also seen a couple spiders still alive but they help take everything out which we was able to inspect to confirm no sacs or live ones was on her things. They joked about it which helped my daughter relax a little and that was it. It would have been nice if they would have offered some sort of refund for the cost of the items we had buy in order to fix the problem. Then a few days later I got a call from someone else asking if we moved out since the lock was gone which tells me this incident wasn't even reported/shared with their office. I thought I was getting a follow up apology call but NOPE have yet to receive anything from them. I guess as along as they have my money that's all they care about. Rent with caution!

Recently made a cross country move and rented an 8x7x6 foot POD unit to pack up my studio…read moreapartment. Our POD was delivered on schedule to the Middletown location (actually a day earlier than the estimate I was given). I called ahead a few days ago to ask if I could access the contents of my POD and was able to schedule it later in the week to go retrieve my items. At least for this location, the PODs can be accessed between 8am-3pm. When you arrive, you can call the number on the front door and someone will come help move your POD storage box outside with a lil truck--just make sure you bring your key! The manager (whose name I believe was Jim) was super helpful the day my dad and I tried to access my POD. We struggled to open up the pull gate (some furniture had moved in transit and jammed the door) and Jim helped us even push the box open and troubleshoot. Moving is extremely painful, so we were super grateful for his help!

We chose the portable on-demand storage unit when we received a better quote from Mr. Sandman, our floor refinishing company, for doing both rooms simultaneously. We needed a place to store furniture for about one month until both jobs were completed. Hubby ordered a POD delivery for about one month to get us through the painting and floor work. The POD stored large pieces of our furniture from the two rooms. The cool part of the POD storage is the delivery and pickup of the unit. POD utilizes a hydraulic lift system called POD Zilla to lower the unit and load it back onto the truck when your contract ends. Please note that a permit is required to park the storage unit on the street near our property. We live in an older home; our garage is detached and on the back of our property. PODS Middletown, thank you for ensuring that the delivery and pick-up of our unit went smoothly.

This experience was outstandingly horrible. Really impressive how terrible this company made things…read morewithout us realizing it until it was over. Poor management of dishonest, lazy, disrespectful and manipulative employees. That's how they operate. Here is an itemized list of the issues we had: 1. Our goods had to be put in storage for 2 weeks because they arrived a week before we did and the company couldn't deliver them until a week after we arrived. It was a busy moving season so it was annoying but understandable. But, because some items weren't packed properly to begin with and then they were put into storage and left for 2 weeks we ended up with thousands of dollars' worth of damage. Waiting to see how much of that we get back with how this company's shifty employees try to skirt the standards. 2. When we went to put in the claim the first time, about 6 weeks later our items were still showing as in transit so we couldn't make a claim. 3. Not sure how they are connected to the company that packed us to start but that was also a nightmare we didn't see coming until unloading. Several items were not packed or wrapped and got destroyed or seriously damaged in the loading, unloading, storage, and unloading. 4. The crew that came to unpack was only 3 people. We have always had at least 5 or more people unloading and unpacking. Some moving companies will even send over 10 people. It was clear by the end of the day they thought they were only unloading even though we were entitled to a full unpack if we wanted. I'll get to that insanity later. 5. The crew left several pieces and boxes saran wrapped that should have been taken out of the wrap, and put together. 6. The parts box was still half full when they left. Several items were not put together at all, which is something that was paid for. 7. Furniture was assembled incorrectly and missing parts. The crew member putting the furniture together didn't bother to tell us they couldn't find all of the parts of an item and left a dangerous situation for our small children. 8. One of the crew members started complaining about how tired he was near the end of the day and I found him laying on my child's bedroom floor while he watched another crew member put the previously mentioned item together incorrectly. 9. I'll say it was my fault for not seeing the fine print that said "we are entitled to a full unpack to the customer's satisfaction". I should have been more diligent inspecting their work, but I was under the wrong impression that these were professionals. We were not satisfied. We should have had a full unpack with 100% respect for our items. We paid for a complete unpack and when we asked for it the crew lead said that they would just dump the box contents on the floor and it would take 3-5 more hours after they had been there for about 10 hours already. We said we wanted it and they proceeded to do exactly that. Dumped a bunch, but not all of boxes on our floors and only in 1 hour. There were still so many unopened boxes after this incredibly disrespectful hour. They did not finish and didn't even ask for me to verify. At this point I was the only one at home with them and unable to do a proper look around to verify the unpack. Several boxes were left untouched, while we had to wade through the piles they dumped just as they said they would. 10. When we asked for the unpack, the tired and lazy crew member copped an attitude and broke an item as he was unpacking not to my satisfaction. 11. They refused to put together one item and said a third party would call to set up an appointment to put it together. I put it together in 20 min. Never received a call from said third party. So they are also liars. Maybe we got unlucky with our crew. Another crew came to pick up boxes we had unpacked ourselves because the first crew were dishonest in their 100% unpack to our satisfaction. This second crew seemed far more put together and helpful. It was just a short period of time I spent with them, so who knows what a full day would have been like. We have heard about several other bad experiences with this company so it wasn't just our "luck" of the draw.
