There weren't enough staff to adequately address the needs of people living there. They seemed to hire the lowest qualified person's to fill jobs. I felt they in return these low skilled employees were overseeing other low skilled mployees. Examples include hiring one LPN nurse and placing on her ALL the duties normally done by higher qualified nurses, like RN's. They're probably not doing anything illegal, but l think they're walking the line by pushing these employees to the max. I found the people dispensing medications to have minimal training. They were unable to pronounce the name of drugs they were dispensing or understand issues like appropriate milligrams, etc. The expectations were to track medications by reading and matching up who gets what. Only requiring the most basic of math skills. Out of curiosity l asked which organization gave them the *****rating and was stunned when l was told they themselves decided to add the 5 stars rating to their describing summary of the facility. This was not given by any regulatory organization who evaluate the care people there receive from the staff. In the time l was there, I experienced being told with whom l was to eat with and the chair/table l was expected to sit at. It was obvious not much thought was given to the task of seating arrangements in the dining room. They told me to sit with a very nice black woman, but she was unable to converse to any great extent because she was deaf. The food was not especially tasty, more institutional like than anything else. The whole mealtime arrangements seemed to be arranged for staff convenience and left me feeling. Seemed they didn't expect people to be able to find a place to sit for a meal. That people needed to be directed to a specified table/chair and with whom they're to share a meal with. They like to called Fox Hollow a "retirement community" but to me l found it to be more of a institution. I saw them repeatability, every day for hour's, sit a retired military man confined to a wheelchair to place him sitting alone in his chair until a time they wanted to assist him with getting into bed. No thought seemed to be given to matching his sex, personality or interests with other's in the place. While there a woman died alone in her room. It was obvious she was in a fragile state. I didn't however see staff making a effort to address her as a special person who shouldn't have been alone at her passing. Found most everything at Fox Hollow to be substandard and given by the least qualified person's. For what's given l think it's a expensive place. In all honesty l wouldn't recommend Fox Hollow. Staff's attitudes need adjustment. To be more individualized in meaningful ways. I believe most people residing there feel minimized as a person by staff employed to care for aging population. I also noticed they didn't treat people with the honesty l expect from care providers. Putting it nicely, a prior resident, gives the place a -5 rating. They repeatedly stretched truths to the point of dishonesty. It's clearly geared to meet the needs of person's who have significant cognitive impairment. I don't think they're so depersonalizing of residents, to allow bedsores or other types of mistreatment to occur, but it was a place l NEVER felt good about being part of. Other's felt the same way. Most staff Dicounted residents BIG time!!! Prior to moving in l met me the marketing director. She inquired as to my likes, hobbies, etc. But these issues were NEVER brought up again. It was clearly cheap useless chat and NEVER thought about again. This talk was not intended as part of anything. It's as if if we never had touched on such idea's. Just a place l didn't like. I felt the staff were definitely underqualified and protocols were everything.

They are understaffed, many of the staff members seem to not like their job and take it out on the residents and the food is sub par. Food is cold and meat is tough more times than not. No matter how many times these issues are brought to the attention to the administration, you're told that they'll work on it. Nothing seems to change. Fox Hollow is now nothing like it was a few years ago. It's far from "assisted" living now. What a shame.

I can write books about my personal experience with the staff and Executives and care that my father received here. He liked it very much over his 10 years. If you care about the well-being of your loved one, I recommend that you ask questions. I'm guessing after Covid the staff shrunk. The organization became more profit driven. While in independent living I received numerous phone calls over and over because they couldn't deal with people in their late stages of life. Instead of dealing with dementia I received constant calls complaining about my father. I don't want to list all the complaints from the organization but they were many. You should be handling them instead of calling me 500 miles away. I kept asking what do you want me to do and what do you do if you had no one to call. My father had bed bugs 8 times in 2023. That is not acceptable. My father's place was dirty with take-out containers throughout his kitchen and expired products in the refrigerator. He had cookies in the dog biscuit tin. I have pictures of his place after he was moved out. I haven't decided if I will post them. Totally disgusting! The Vice-President claimed that my father said he didn't want his place cleaned. I said you called me for everything else why not for this! The best care my dad received was from someone I hired to watch over him. She was a past employee and would take him to doctor appointments and see how he was doing. She would call or text me to talk about what she saw. I recommend you ask what staff is on duty over the weekend. There is 1 security person and 1 staff member. If a resident complains of any ailments they throw them in an ambulance. There are no medical staff on-site. They do have part-time nurses in assisted-living and rehab/St Joseph of the Pines last stage living. I kept getting calls on weekends that my dad was wandering outside and complaining about his stomach. Let me add that they sell you with the stages. What they never tell you until the last minute is that there is a waiting list for assisted living. You need an advocate to put you on a list. They never told me or my sister who we met with the leadership and emailed/spoke to the Director many times. I did get many calls when my dad had trouble writing monthly checks until I put on autopay. If you don't use your monthly allowance for food you lose it. They don't tell you that you can go to some outside restaurants around Pinehurst. I will be writing another review on the St Joseph of the Pines final place. I wish I could give that negative numbers. The communication from the people in Assisted Living was fantastic but my dad never made it there because of the waiting list.

St. Joseph, patron of the old and dying, is weeping…read more Dad went here for rehab, they sent him home with a raging UTI that will require 7 days of IV-antibiotics. He was so weak we had to call 911 because he couldn't get out of his chair without skilled assistance. So he's back in the hospital. They didn't shower him for 7 days despite my asking daily. A hood-eyed kid with a goatee every day told me: "Sorry, we're short-staffed." I told him we weren't paying the short-staffed rate. A surly nurse's aide had to be shamed into examining and cleaning a wound on my dad's buttocks. Everyone seemed of questionable competence -- but there was no question they didn't care what happened to my dad. Saturday night it all hit the fan. Dad was talking a little crazy, seemed infected. The nurse said nothing was wrong -- based on asking him one question. I requested blood work and a urinalysis. Much dialogue ensued about how "we don't have to do that because we're not a hospital." When I insisted, his NURSE actually said: "Maybe we could find someone who's on tonight who could draw blood, but none of us has done that in a long time, four or five years, probably more. But we can't get results till Monday anyway because no one knows where to take it in the hospital." Nightmare. No one to appeal to. Still no one. Calls and emails to Teresa, supposedly head of care, unreturned. Ditto for Charles the social worker, who gave the impression he cared. As always, individuals who care make all the difference. A compassionate day-nurse named Charles showered my dad when the aides wouldn't. And Heather -- an angel -- stepped in Saturday night, stayed two hours past her shift, this wasn't even her floor, cleaned my dad up, drew the blood and urine samples, and gave him an antibiotic injection. Both treated him with dignity. God bless you both for your kindness. To the rest: I pray to God that no one ever treats you or anyone you love the way you treated my dad.

(WWD was a huge disappointment!) Our mother was at Quail Haven for one year and it was a huge improvement! The staff are friendly, attentive, eager to help and please. We asked about an exercise program (which they didn't have) and the activities director made it happen with in the week! The social worker responded to all my emails and questions promptly and satisfactorily. The CNAs loved our mother and cared for her very well. Our mother passed away peacefully there and the staff were caring in dealing with us after her passing. Highly recommend.

Our parents were…read moremoved to Quail Haven from Elmcroft when our father needed more care and as his needs increased from assisted living to skilled nursing. We moved our mother to Quail Haven when a place opened up in their assisted living (the Cardinal) so that our parents could be at the same facility even if not in the same building and our mother could be taken to visit with our father. Our father died there in November 2022. His care was maybe acceptable but one thing we and our separate aide we had always kept had noticed was that nursing staff usually congregated at the nurse's station to talk. The staff at the Cardinal were generally good however there were some questions. Our mother had developed a half a golf ball sized callous and pressure wound while there and had skin issues on her feet and legs. Additionally the head nurse was telling us that our mother was becoming combative and needed skilled nursing care (she did not, she needed memory care which they said they were trained to handle). Our mother had relatively high functioning dementia and Quail Haven couldn't or wouldn't properly address her needs. Fortunately, we still had our aide that we continued to pay for to look in on her. Quail Haven informed us that they were moving our mother to skilled nursing over our objections (they had done an assessment at the time she had a UTI). First, they proposed on moving her into the room that our father was in before he died and we said no way. Once they did move her into skilled nursing she was basically isolated in her room 24/7 and they eventually put a plastic ankle bracelet on her leg (even though she had bad skin issues at the time and the bracelet would irritate her skin more) because she was supposedly an "elopement" risk. She needed a walker to walk and she couldn't walk more than about 100 yards, and that's being generous. At the skilled nursing part they continued to say our mother was combative and was a flight risk. For some reason they did not use the shower in her room but used one at the end of the hall, and she would apparently get aggravated over that and who could blame her for not wanting to be wheeled down a long cold hall in a bathrobe to get a shower and come back down the same long cold hall while still damp. We asked why they were having so much problem because our aide didn't have the same problems and we requested that their staff be in the room when our aide was there since our aide was supplemental to their staff and was not supposed to replace their staff. We wanted their staff to learn how our aide was able to get our mother to do things without a fight or drama. They eventually agreed (after getting defensive and saying that their staff were trained and didn't need to be trained by an outsider (my words)). They never did have their staff learn from our aide how to get our mother to cooperate. She had dementia and putting her in skilled nursing was about the worst thing to do. We got her out of there as fast as we could and moved her to Fox Hollow's memory care unit called "A Bridge to Rediscovery" where she did well until she died in February 2024. I can't say enough good things about Fox Hollow. Their memory care unit was 180 degrees from the poor treatment she received at Quail Haven. The best person at QH was the one who did the billing, etc. Their doctor seemed to just rubber stamped the head nurse's recommendations without an independent assessment or review and hadn't realized that our mother had a UTI when they did their assessment that reportedly said that she needed to be moved to skilled nursing.

My mom lived here for decades. She has now passed, and I want you to know what great care she…read morereceived over the years. The staff is exemplary (caring, reliable, and communicative) and helped my mom make this her home. Through the years, all levels of staff were responsive to my mom's requests, and filled in for her growing needs through the toughest of times including her declining health and the pandemic. When my mom recently died, they were so kind to us, and we loved the staffs' stories of how they enjoyed knowing her.
