Our daughter started at Oakview at age two, and from the moment we toured the school, we knew it was special. The warm and welcoming environment stood out to us. Every classroom felt joyful, engaging, colorful, and thoughtfully designed. After touring a handful of places we knew Oakview was the one. Over the years, it has been a joy to watch our daughters grow and thrive. Our oldest recently graduated and is heading to kindergarten with confidence, independence, and a genuine love of learning. I have especially loved seeing how much she admires and adores her teachers. The teachers really go above and beyond with unique and creative, hands-on projects and building relationships with each child and their families. Lastly, as newcomers to Marin, we met so many wonderful families through the school who have become some of our closest friends. The teachers are so genuine and caring and really get to know and understand each child. They are happy working with children and the kids love them. The schedule is accommodating, there is parking, it is off the beaten path and you can hear the Seminary bells daily. I chose the school because the ratios do not exceed 7:1, the kids are engaged, it's super safe, teachers are helpful, transparent, honest, so kind and loving. They have 2,3,4 and some 5 year olds. Her students love her dearly. She has a montessori teaching credentials and decades of experience teaching preschool. Her curriculum includes advanced concepts like seasons, holidays, countries, gardening and cooking. Solange also has a beautiful indoor/outdoor space with so much light and fresh air. She uses her extensive garden to teach the children about caring for plants, about patience and long term gratification. In true Montessori tradition, Solange also supports their growth and self sufficiency in areas like hygiene, dressing, cleaning, and other fine motor/coordination skills like cutting, tracing, and pasting. Interpersonal skills abound at Solange's. I find my daughter asking me how my heart feels, meaning she's interested I understanding my feelings. She coaches herself to take a breath when upset, and recounts appropriate behavior in group situations 'we don't push our friends'. I've never heard of another school that ties together all of these very different aims with such care and love. When you choose to send your kid to the Grove, you are choosing an environment that educates children AND embraces their families. The school is a powerful force for community building, and the kids are fully supported in every sense of the word. Our son started at the Grove when he was 18 months old, and just a week or two after he began, he was already going on little hikes. Now, at nearly three years old, he explores freely on nature walks with his class and revels in everything he and his friends discover outdoors. A normal day often features eye-opening, nature-based experiences, as well as music, sports, art, and cooking. The kids who are growing up together at the school are turning into wonderful little people: they look out for each other, take care of each other, and cheer each other on. My son learned encouraging habits and language, and enjoys comforting his friends with "it's ok. take a deep breath. it's ok." The school teaches kindness, good habits, and emotional regulation, on top of all the normal wonderful preschool curriculum and incredible Jewish learning. The academics at MHS may have been good, but were rendered irrelevant by the brutal, ceaseless bullying I experienced, the scars of which haunt me to this day. I have memories of horrible things my classmates did to me while the faculty and administration stood by and did nothing. It pains me to think that my parents spent so much money for me to be treated so poorly, and even today I wonder how I made it through those years of misery and came out the other side. Today I'm 32 and have a wonderful and fulfilling life that I am extremely proud of - everything I have is not because of, but rather in spite of, my time at MHS.

What most impressed me was how close the teachers, staff and administrators got to know her, and the dedicated coaching she received in every single class. This struck me reading the narrative from each teacher in the first report cards. It was clear they knew my daughter deeply and had worked closely with her to develop her strengths and push her in the areas she needed to grow. The school community was incredibly warm and welcoming, she had many new friends within days of joining the school and felt as if she had been there for years. This was clearly intentional, MHS focuses on fostering a sense of belonging, bonding with teachers, character building and strong academics. I highly recommend MHS and can see why they have been voted 'Best Private School in Marin' for many years. It is indeed the best!
