The city of Eugene requires homeowners with an irrigation system to have our backflow system checked out and certified with EWEB every year, and then there's the winterizing process to keep pipes from freezing. So much for convenience, right? Just another fun adulting task to add to the list! I found Terra Nova, which specializes in both, and that's all they do. You sign up on their website and they come out twice a year to turn your system off and drain it, turn it back on in the spring and check the backflow. They're one of EWEB's certified contractors, so they send the test results directly to EWEB. I signed up and they fit me in for the winterizing the same week. The cost seemed reasonable when you sign up for their ongoing service. So far, very pleased. One task checked off the list. read more

This business needs to provide a way for customers to see where the worker is in real time. I realize there was an emergency with one of the workers having to be out of the country but I had to wait at home for almost two entire work days so I could be here when the worker arrived for this service. I tried calling three times but couldn't leave a message and there was no outgoing message to tell the customer what was going on. Additionally, I had previously been told the leak in my pressure regulator would be fixed at the same time. Now I have to wait for another appointment to fix the original problem. read more

Love these guys. We've used them since 2016 when we moved to Eugene and they're the best. Always available if something goes wrong and when we had an irrigation leak they were able to walk me through troubleshooting on the phone until we found the problem. Okay: On this rare occasion I will steal time from my precious lifespan to compliment a company for doing things right. You may encounter many fake reviews on Yelp and elsewhere, but this praise is not fake and could not be faked, as the honesty of what I am about to describe will silence any thoughts that this review is anything but well earned by Terra Nova. [For those who wish to cut to the chase and skip the details, see the last paragraph.] My wife and I have recently moved to Eugene from the state just south of here, one in which concepts of "back flow testing" and "winterization" are seldom if ever encountered. As our move has required shuttling back and forth from the Bay Area, we found ourselves calling friends in Eugene from California just as the weather turned cold, with them asking, "Have you winterized the house yet?" Well, babes in the woods as we are, I did remember calling the company that conducted the back flow test, just so I could find out what that was, and during that conversation the customer contact mentioned that they cover various aspects of property needs, including winterization, and that bundling services results in a discounted price. So I said, Sign us up, that sounds great, but we will be away from the property in Eugene during the fall; I was assured that the work could be managed without our being there. All of this was forgotten owing to the ensuing countless hectic days and weeks of moving, and when in the last week of October we were questioned about winterization by our friends, I immediately looked up and called the company, Terra Nova...at 4:00p.m. on a Saturday prior to a prediction of 27 degrees the following Sunday morning. Despairing of any reply before Monday two days later, I then began to imagine what the cost, and the mess, might be, if our pipes and extensive landscape irrigation system were to freeze. Within 30 minutes I had a return phone call from Roxann, who had been my initial contact with the company. Hey, she said, we did the work three days ago! Didn't you receive our e-mailed invoice? Happily flabbergasted, I hastily checked, and yes, I had missed the e-mailed notice and the invoice owing to long days of packing all week long. "If you are signed up with us, we will get you winterized in time," she said--"It's the people who call in droves after the first snow, when we can't handle all of them at once, that I feel sorry for!" Mightily relieved and now ready to relax and count my blessings as Friday night dinner approached, I thanked Roxann and told her how rare her company's follow-through was in these days of widespread miscommunication and absence of real customer care. "Oh, we take our customers very seriously," she said, and she added that her boss would appreciate a review on Yelp if I felt like it. I told her that I seldom took the time for such things but that I would think about it, as I looked up the number to cancel the service of the irrigation services provider that had previously had the job. The company our HOA hires to do landscaping, backflow testing, etc.. performed testing and reported to EWEB that our backflow failed and needed repaired/replaced. No details were given to us, just received a letter from EWEB saying it needed to be resolved by 8/14/2020. I attempted to contact the company a few times and was getting impatient. I had hired Terra Nova before to do a few repairs, so I reached out to them by filling out their online service requests forms. I got a prompt response with: explanations of timelines, that they would reach out to EWEB to inform them it would get resolved, assurance they were here to help and friendly service. I was advised it might be a few days, however, they showed up the following day, performed a backflow test (which passed) and replaced a few minor parts. Three days after posting my Yelp review this company finally came by (they never did call/email back, but someone finally came over). They did the backflow testing. It went well. I think. To be entirely honest, I have no idea what backflow testing is, so I can only judge by the fact that my house is still here, and we have water, and my sprinklers work. I hired them to come back next year ($30 or they'll match any coupon for a cheaper place). So sad that they have a dynamite office person with great communication skills but after more than a month I still don't have any irrigation turned on. My plants & yard are dying. I tried & tried to get scheduled for a simple backflo test & irrigation check. Told them I had dogs & to call ahead. Hadn't heard anything since May 16th. When I contacted them they said someone came out but no one was home. DUH! that's why they were supposed to call ahead! Guess my job is too small for them. Terra Nova recently performed a backflow test on our sprinkler system. While delivering the document showing the results of the test to my wife, the representative mistook my last name - it was misspelled on his document - to be pronounced "QAnon". Despite being corrected regarding his error, he thought it would somehow be funny to call her a "jerk" as he laughed his way back to his truck. Naturally, my wife was taken aback by this display. In my opinion, there is no excuse for this lack of professionalism. I called the Terra Nova office to provide direct feedback, but I have yet to receive a return call. Communication was a severe issue. After contacting this business, Robert came out, gave an estimate which I agreed to and waited for an emailed quote. Weeks went by, so recontacted Robert on November 14th, got the written quote, once again asked when we could schedule this project and I have never heard anything since. I bought a home a few years ago and one day Robert showed up to conduct an annual backflow test. He had a contract with the prior owner and it was something I needed done anyway so I kept the contract. Robert is a great guy who is extremely knowledgeable in his field and has explained the existing irrigation system and helped me save on repairs. This year I was convinced I had a broken line somewhere and was ready to start digging up pipe but Robert tested the system, made a few adjustments, and got everything working - free of charge.
