Meh
Brett B.

I'm not sure I can say "meh" loud or long enough to do justice to this "viral" ice cream sandwich. And what's with the cold and crunchy chocolate chips. They doing that just to zest me? Maybe I'm biased. Maybe my revulsion for cookie dough brought me to this lowly state. Maybe my distaste for a salmonella enriched pre-cooked raw egg vomit mop of a dessert is coloring my opinion. Or maybe, just maybe, it's meh

We came over to try the Cookie Dough Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich. It definitely went viral because the line was quite long for this kiosk. The ice cream sandwich was large and ample for two. Good, but nothing groundbreaking. I personally did not like the salt on top.

We ordered the hotdog and it was actually delicious. The sauce was excellent and the portion was large. Of course it's not cheap because we are inside of Disney, but this was a really good snack.

This has been on my must-try list every time we've visited Disney Springs, but the line is usually…read more30-45 minutes long. I've always wondered if these cookies could really be that good. After finally trying them...I'd say they're absolutely worth the wait. Luckily, we stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon and only waited about five minutes. It was scorching hot outside, but they have umbrellas every few feet along the line, which definitely helps. I had always imagined walking into a large bakery or café where you could sit down with a cookie and coffee. Instead, it's actually a tiny, dark, whimsical shop with a queue that wraps around to the displays. It almost feels like you're walking through a Harry Potter-inspired attraction with its gothic décor and old-world bakery vibe. Despite the small space, they have three checkout registers, so once you're inside, the line moves surprisingly fast. One tip for first-time visitors: don't rely on the cookie menu on the website. Many of those flavors are seasonal or limited editions. The menu card they hand you while you're waiting in line shows the flavors available that day, so decide what you want before you get to the register because ordering is pretty quick. Now for the cookies... Banana Bread Chocolate Chip - 20/10 Without question, the standout. It tasted like warm, homemade banana bread with added chocolate transformed into a giant cookie. Soft, flavorful, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet. I would come back just for this cookie. Pistachio Toffee Chocolate Chip - 8/10 A delicious combination of sweet, salty, crunchy, and gooey. I can definitely see why it's one of their most popular flavors, but the banana bread still stole the show for me. Cookies & Cream - 5/10 It was just okay. Very rich and sweet, like a giant Oreo cookie but it didn't have the depth of flavor or uniqueness of the other two. I probably wouldn't order it again. The cookies are huge and easily shareable. The funniest part? My son bought an extra cookie to take home for his girlfriend...but after one bite, he decided to keep it for himself! And that's saying something because he's really into health and fitness and rarely eats sweets. If you're wondering whether Gideon's lives up to the hype, I'd say yes. The wait is worth it, and the Banana Bread Chocolate Chip completely stole the show. It's the cookie I'll be thinking about long after this trip.

The outside of…read moreGideon's basically looks like something out of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings had an edge to them with and was filled with goth music playing for Snape. The outside looks like the entrance to a haunted ride and the line to enter confirms it. The inside is decorated super gothic feeling like an old edger Allan Poe poem. Speaking of which, all the old books aren't for show. These are actually aged real readable books, some probably worth quite a bit. There is an actual authentic 1829 "Works of Edger Allan Poe" book right at the counter. Expensive. The cookies are large thick and filling. Not to sugary at all. We had pistachio, cookies and cream, banana chocolate chip and peanut butter chocolate chip. Now here's the thing. They are great cookies cause the flavor isn't just a cup of sugar and some dough. You can taste the flavors and they work. But don't expect an explosion in your mouth. It's obvious they are going for real flavors that allow their own sweetness to shine. Here is the best thing to do. Cut your cookies in half and share amongst friends, or if your big backing have it all. BUT I refrigerated them over night and had one after a minute in the microwave and another cold straight out of the refrigerator and WOW! It took a very good cookie to something spectacular. The flavors just POP! I don't know what which-craft is involved in this but the spell definitely works. Find Gideon's, make the line and get a mix of cookies and a few slices of cake and head home for some Netflix and dessert!

They had a lot of different themed blends with really nice packaging, and honestly I wanted to buy more, but it's hard to justify grabbing multiple bags at that price when you don't know if you'll actually like them. One thing I noticed was that the coffee was only available pre-ground in store, with no whole bean option. I asked one of the employees and they confirmed that whole bean coffee is only available online. I brewed this in a French press. The bag mentions notes of apple, caramel, and cinnamon. I could definitely smell it while drinking the coffee, especially the apple and cinnamon, but I didn't really taste them all that much in the actual coffee. However, it was very easy to drink. This was much lighter than the coffees I normally drink, with almost no bitterness. Nothing fancy, just a smooth cup of coffee that was enjoyable to drink black. One thing I wish Joffrey's offered was a way to try the coffees before committing to a bag. With so many different blends, it would be nice if they had sample jars of the grounds to smell, small tasting samples, or even brewed versions of the specialty blends available to order. Instead, they only had a limited selection of roasts and teas available for take out. A lot of the bags sound interesting, but you're mostly buying based on the description and hoping for the best. Overall, I enjoyed this one and would consider picking up another bag on a future Disney trip. The next blends I'd be interested in trying are Snow White's Just One Bite, Daisy Duck Lavender, and Tiana's Bayou Beignet.

Our waiter, Tim, came right to our table and he was immediately warm and personable. We ended up speaking and joking with him throughout the meal and it made it that much more enjoyable. For one of the chicken burgers, we asked for grilled chicken instead of fried chicken and they were more than happy to accommodate. Both the grilled and fried chicken were incredibly tender and the sandwiches were so tasty. The mac & cheese was some of the best I've ever had. It was creamy and cheesy with a layer of baked cheese on top. The coleslaw was also perfectly sweet and crunchy. The biscuit was cheesy, warm and flaky. To end our email, Tim brought us a piece of hummingbird cake on the house, and we really appreciated the gesture. Between the food and the service, this was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back.

First of all, the flavors read like someone dared a chef to turn a farmer's market, a cocktail bar, and a childhood memory into dessert--and somehow it works. I sampled things I cannot pronounce, things I would normally avoid, and at least one flavor that sounded like it belonged in a Thanksgiving side dish. Every single one made me pause mid-bite like, "Wait... why is this actually amazing?" The staff? Unreasonably patient. I asked for so many samples I started to feel like I was conducting a scientific study. Not once did they judge me. If anything, they enabled me. What I appreciate most is that it's not just gimmicky weirdness--there's actual thought behind every flavor. You can taste the intention, the creativity, and possibly a little chaos. Final verdict: Salt & Straw is what happens when ice cream stops playing it safe, goes to art school, and comes back with bold ideas and great taste. Come curious, leave slightly confused but very happy.

I do understand that overtime menu items change, but would argue they should change for the better and not get worse. Our "go-to" in the past was their awesome pretzel that was a sweet pretzel with toasted almonds. This was soft and basically a perfect treat. On this visit, I was informed they no longer had it and the sweet pretzel had raisins and some chocolate drizzled on it. So, we did try it. This pretzel was a total disappointment. It was hard, almost as if it was stale and very chewy. The taste was very blah and basically not appetizing at all. We shared it and at the end felt we should have taken it back and asked for a refund. Cost was higher, for something that was kind of "bad" for Disney expectations. We did also try the school bread, which also was not great, not a soft pastry and also not fresh tasting. I don't have a comparison, as I ordered this as to try two items since I wasn't sure we would like the pretzel. The overall building was clean and there were adequate seats. Needless to say, until the previous quality returns at this location, we will look toward other venues and not visit this one again.

It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, allowing the fruit flavors to really shine. It was a light, refreshing finish after the richness of the quiche. This bakery delivers on both quality and flavor.
