We had a great stay! The front desk staff was very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the newly constructed/renovated tower on the 4th floor. The "new room smell" was quite strong, but the room was spotless and well-appointed. The view was amazing. We dined at the restaurant on site - good service, good food, great view. Bigby Coffee is not our favorite but it is certainly convenient. Plenty of parking, great amenities - we didn't have time to take advantage of the free bikes and kayaks but what a great option to have! The pool/hot tub/sauna are dated but it was clean and nice to have available. We would stay again if we come back this way. read more

This hotel was undergoing renovations when we visited. The property is absolutely beautiful with views of the lake. Having just sprained my knee, I appreciated the pool and jacuzzi. It was just what the doctor ordered and aleviated my pain. I visited with my service dog and had no issues so long as he was wearing his vest. The staff was helpful and courteous. They even followed up with a text message to make sure we were enjoying our stay. The restaurant on site was quite pricy. I did not try the coffee shop that brewed their own local coffee. Our room was recently renovated. It was perfect for us since we parked right outside the door. It was tastefully decorated with scenes of Michigan's natural beauty. Outside, there was also a pathway along the lake to go for a stroll and enjoy the outdoors. I would definitely return to this hotel on my next visit to Escanaba! read more

Spent three nights here. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We were in room 139. The room could use some TLC as trim was coming off the baseboard and the screen door wouldn't close properly allowing bugs to come into the room when you wanted to open the door to air out the space. The shower could use a nonslip floor as it was slippery. The water coming out of the tap had that iron/sulfur smell and taste. Don't use the water to make coffee in the room coffee maker. Our balcony on the water view side was quiet and private. The view of the water was pleasant, complete with interesting waterfowl. There is a nice pool and exercise equipment. There seem to be three phases of this motel. The south end gives off 60's vibes, the middle (where our room was) kinda 80's and there's the new addition on the north side. The restaurant is really good. Bottom line, we had a very comfortable stay and would definitely stay again. Next time I'll try one of the free kayaks. The sunrises are spectacular. read more

The view in the Lake Tower is beautiful and the rooms clean and modern. The down side and it's a biggie is that every footstep above you sounds as if they've coming through the ceiling. For a fairly high end hotel for the area the thin walls snd ceilings were a huge disappointment. read more

This was our first time back since they renovated. The rooms are great! Wonderful layout, very clean, and great views of the lake. The staff is absolutely amazing! They went above and beyond! Checking to make sure we were enjoying our stay and if we needed anything. Bobbie at the front desk was especially helpful!! We stayed in the newly built portion of the hotel. There's a nice view of the lake and the room is well decorated. We realized after a little while in the room there was no soundproofing between the rooms. Could hear people on all sides of us, even with the slightest noise. The new portion of the hotel were still under construction. We realized the bathroom sink had not been cleaned, but decided to look past that as there was a second sink. When we got up the next morning, we also realized the second bed in the room was not clean. It had not had its linens changed from the last guest. Actually found someone's contact lens under the blankets. That was very disgusting for us. We are going to be in the area off and on for the next several years. If we decide to try the place again, we will not accept a room until we have personally inspected it for cleanliness. read more

We stayed in the new section of the building. It was really a well thought out room with a stunning view. Lots of table space, hooks, nice sized fridge with convenient blue light that acted as a nightlight for the bathroom area. Very clean. Our room was second floor lakeside with a balcony. We had a perfect view of the lake and summer sunrises. Could hear people above, but I always bring a sound machine/ use sound app because noise is a problem at most hotels. Coffee in room was tasty, and there is a coffee place with some food is on site. Staff was always professional and helpful. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the Freshwater Tavern as it didn't seem very young-kid friendly. Will be back here in the future. Highly recommend. Gladstone in general is an nice town to stay in with young kids. Beach and park are great, and the simple downtown main street has some gems, not to mention all access to nature the Upper Peninsula has to offer! read more

We loved our stay at Terrace Bay Hotel. The price was right, the view was spectacular, and the rooms were nice. They're currently in the process of renovating so keep that in mind. The exterior hasn't been updated yet so don't judge the book by its cover! Our room was clean and the beds were comfy. We had a great view of the lake and even had our own small patio to enjoy. The pool, hot tub and sauna were dying to be renovated but we still used them. The pool was a bit on the cool side for me but my kids didn't mind they were swimming like fish. The hot tub on the other hand was really warm and I loved that. The concrete was sort of broken up a bit but like I said, I think this will be renovated soon. There is a Bigby inside the hotel which was a win in my opinion and there is a very amazing restaurant with a great view, I highly recommend having dinner there. All of the staff that we encountered were very friendly. Our tv wasn't working properly and a very kind woman came and fixed it promptly which was really kind of her. If you're in the area and looking for a place to stay, you should give them a chance. I think it might be a really old hotel and I'm glad they're putting money into restoring it's beauty. read more

I called several times about non functioning equipment in the room. A staff member came to the room but could not fix the problem. The lady told me she would see if we could move to another room and would call us back and let us know. We went to dinner an hour later at the resort and never got the call saying we could move, it's been over 4 hours and still no call. We returned to our room after dinner and the problem was worse, I called the desk and they refused to come and try to solve the issue or at least attempt to make it to the point it was previously.The impression we got is the Hotel staff is not interested in solving the problem I got a runaround when I asked for help. Restaurant served cold tasteless soup, waiter was very nice but the quality for the price was not worth it. We had a party of eight four of us were unhappy with the food. My husband had the curry which was very good. ALL IN ALL NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE. Customers deserve so much more than a non caring attitude for the price that they charge. if it were possible to give less than one star I would! The final words from the staff member was "goodnight sir I can't do a thing for you" as she turned her back and walked away. read more

This is a motel not a hotel... it is definitely not a 3-star but a 1-star or no more than 2. The advised photos were just lies. Only a few units that are remodeled and when we asked for it during an off season, non-weekend, and pandemic times when not a lot of people traveling, the unfriendly staff told us it was not available without even trying to check. The room was filthy, full of aged dirts, hairs at bathroom, bed, basically everywhere and lots of bugs. The room also stinks and everything just looks extremely old. I have never had such a terrible experience with almost any hotel I have ever stayed. Although I can't assume the remodeled room is necessarily nicer, but from the outside, the hallway looks much better than the non-remodeled ones. I will avoid this place at all cost. If there's one thing that's positive, I would say the food at the Freshwater Tavern on-site was decent so worth a try. read more

Friendly staff - both at check-in and housekeeping. Very nice location on Little Bay de Noc Lake Michigan. After spending the morning/afternoon on Mackinac Island, we ended up staying here at night. The hotel was certinally busy, but luckily at check in we were told they only had one room left...thank you...and for about $115 per night. Room was clean, had a very slight musty odor..but looked fairly nice. I turned the air on..it was loud upon starting up and i feared it would not cool the room but after a bit of time there was no doubt it worked just fine. Major gripe is that when taking a shower, the water temperature would fluctuate between ice cold to very warm...this would only last for a couple seconds. Also, the water pressure was low. Perhaps this is because the hotel was very busy. I recommend this hotel if in the area, try to get a lake view room if possible...such a wonderful location on the lake. read more

Utterly and completely disappointed with the service at this hotel we were unable to stay at because they botched our reservation with booking.com. Our kids made this reservation for our 40th anniversary and we were looking to relax after traveling on the road all day. The girl at the desk gave us some song and dance about how "something happened" between booking.com and the hotel and it messed up the reservation date. Um, nope, sorry, Terrace Bay messed up the reservation. I will never recommend this tacky hotel. Call ahead a couple days if you book through them or you may end up driving for two hours in the middle of the night to find another place to stay because the reservation you thought you made has been sold out from under you. Shame on you Terrace Bay. read more

This is a hidden gem! It is an older property but it's clean and they are keeping it up. The rooms are sound proof, not like other hotels where the noise in the halls or adjoining rooms keep you awake. There is a big, deep pool for the kids to swim in. The pool room is surrounded by glass so the adults have a beautiful view of the lake. There is also a nice patio area with a fountain overlooking the lake. The lounge is great and it's where we would have spent time if we did not have the kids with us. The restaurant has good food. The continental breakfast is served until 11 am! It has everything you would need from yogurt, cottage cheese, various cereals, eggs, various pastries and breads, hot waffle iron, juices, milk, and coffee. The only con: The shower head was not ideal and the water temp goes from warm to cold, warm to cold, but mostly stays cold. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside as you drive up...but looks are deceiving. The rooms are nice...not fancy but clean with walkout balconies about 100 yards from the water. Incredible views. even though I was there in winter... I could see the nice pool area gym. The restaurant surprised the hell out of me. Usually, hotel restaurants aren't all that great...but this one was SUPURB. As good as restaurants I have eaten at in Beverly Hills. Service was spot on and was bowled over by the fresh seafood and creativity of the chef...who I tracked down and complimented. all in all, this was at a VERY fair price both food and room. This place has been around for more than 70 years, so it's got a few rough edges, but it's still a very nice place to stay or to have events. I recently stayed in a bay-side room with a spectacular view and also went to an event here. The cost is reasonable, $90 for a bay-side room and less if you don't need to be on the bay. If you are on the bay, you get a little patio with deck chairs. There's a stairwell and boardwalk down by the bay if you want to get closer as well. The dining room is large, with an outdoor portion that includes a fountain. The ballroom is big enough to accommodate several hundred people plus a DJ. The food for the event was pretty nondescript but acceptable, as was the breakfast included with the room. One downside was that the closest women's bathroom to the ballroom was small, dark and a little dingy. The lock on one stall didn't work. Another bathroom a little further away was larger and more up-to-date. As for recreation, the facility has a huge pool, a sauna, a hot tub and a small video game arcade. The pools are somewhat over-chlorinated, but otherwise nice. read more

We were really just looking for a place to stay overnight halfway between Sault Ste. Marie and Milwaukee, but we got quite a bit more. The hotel part of the operation is a 1950s-era building that's had lots of updates over the decades. Be sure to read the history of the place in the lobby. It ain't the Overlook Hotel from The Shining, but there are some interesting things in its past. Based on some reviews, there must be some pretty hard-used rooms. But we ended up in what we later learned was one of just two rooms that have recently been remodeled. Between the decor and the view, it was an unexpected resort-like experience. The update was so recent that there was still a paint smell in the room before we aired it out. On the downside, the roll-down blinds let in so much light around the edges that we were up by 6am. But we had wanted to hit the road early anyhow. Also, in uber-buggy Michigan there really needs to be a screen on the patio door. The included self-serve continental breakfast set up in the Freshwater Grill was almost entirely carbs, but okay for what it was. But they really need to turn down the volume on the awful SiriusXM Coffee House music. Way to much for that early in the morning. I don't know what they charge for the non-updated rooms. But they say they hope to have all rooms done by the end of winter (2019?). read more

This was an extremely disappointing experience. Pros: Good location with proximity to hiking, etc, nice water views from the room, and the restaurant was nice. Cons: The website is EXTREMELY misleading. We booked this place because we saw how nice the renovated rooms looked and paid extra for a Lakeview room. There was nothing listed on the website that some of the rooms would NOT be updated and we got put on a first floor in a room that was essentially a motel room. Not updated even a little bit.The toilet constantly had problems flushing and we didn't feel safe too take a shower. This is the time of COVID. We came to relax and get away from the city and not feel stressed about our safety, and we did not feel like we were able to do this here. Our "patio" had no privacy and people were still able to come up to it. When we checked in and walked onto the "patio," there were cigarette butts and empty Mountain Dew cans. The next morning we woke up and saw that our chairs had been taken. To pay $200/night for a motel is really not ok. Don't fall for it. read more

This hotel is in the process of updating/renovating. The upstairs hallway was beautiful, renovated rooms were nice, but the pool area, boardwalk, and exterior were old and dilapidated. No elevator, and hallways were like a maze trying to find places. Said hot breakfast when we made reservation, but it was wrapped muffins and cereal. Biggby Coffee is going in the lobby, but was not open yet when we were there. Which is probably why breakfast is no longer in the website. The outdoor deck are had a wedding, so we were not able to even enjoy the lake view from there. Definitely not worth the money we paid. read more

We did have to ask for daily cleaners to sweep the room after the first night. Front desk staff was super friendly and helpful with local Ideas for our younger kids. They even made a fresh pot of lobby coffee when we got back at 6pm one long day. We had lake view which was very refreshing. Pool was fun for the kids and always had plenty of towels. Pool area has amazing views with plenty of seating. Hot tub and sauna were dated but functional. Continental breakfast was basic. read more

When I told the woman working the front desk she made a list and said she'd have maintenance look into it. No apology, not further discussion to be had. Indoor pool and sauna helped us relax after the long drive. The continental breakfast is not exactly grand but you have your basic stuff. We decided to stop here as part of our road trip, but when we got to our rooms we realized we paid 130$ per night per room for a scam. The photos that the hotel posts are completely different from the reality, we had 2 very old room, stinking of cigarettes really bad, and there were hairs in the shower. The front desk lady was very nice at giving us a refund, but we still had to drive 2h at night for the next available hotel and completely destroyed our vacation plans. Avoid this place. read more

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We ate in the dining room, which has a beautiful view of the bay - we even saw the blue moon rising. The deck area to the dining room is spacious and charming. The night we were there, a wedding parting was using the deck and dining area. The rooms are basic - not fancy - but very clean and well kept. We were afraid because in the hallway we heard a baby crying in the room next door , but once we were in our room, we couldn't hear it at all. read more

Oct 23, 2021 Stay... I can only blame myself so thinking $286.00 was going to be "worth it" for one Saturday night stay not sure what I was expecting. We choose a remodeled room which seemed clean but pretty much had just a thick coat of fresh paint over "everything" The hotel did a great job with the professional photos to make the place look gorgeous. All the hallways, entire pool area are in very rough shape and reminded me of a 70's built motel that isn't kept up. My boy loves swimming and wouldn't hardly swim because the pool water had stuff floating, stuff at the bottom and the light in shallow end wasn't working Google showed "free breakfast" which I used to help make my choice. "Free breakfast" isn't a banana and a muffin (and at the very least this should be disclosed)that you have to ask the front desk for. Nothing at the hotel that I seen told us any type of "free breakfast" was included, I had to ask. We choose not to eat at the restaurant for dinner so I won't review or say anything about that. I understand guests have the option to buy biggbys but every hotel in the past I've stayed at offered free coffee in the lobby for guests. Yes there is 4 K cups in your room. I only had brief contact with two different front desk workers and they were decent. Disappointed to say the least. Avoid this "hotel" motel at all costs... I'd give it zero stars if I could. read more

The owner has done an excellent job with the interior room and hallway renovations completed to date. Our room was in excellent shape, roomy and clean with nice view of bay. Exterior 2nd floor patio renovation would be a welcome enhancement. Overall nice place to stay when traveling through the UP or visiting the area. Attached restaurant is excellent plus. Could upgrade internet bandwidth (pages very slow to load and frequently unavailable) and AC units work well but on the loud side when it turns on and off interrupting light sleepers. Overall 4 out of 5, better than many. read more

We love this place for lodging and meals. Downside (-1 star) they don't allow our travel companion...our dog. We stay whenever we can without her, but can't when she's along. Go thru Escanaba about 8-12 X a year. read more
