DON'T STAY THERE! The pictures are a joke. We called and spoke with Owner, it sounded so nice. Our week stay became 4 & that was too much. The Office was filthy & messy everywhere. The room was not cleaned. Floors sticky & dirty. Two big chairs, entire seats torn & dirty pair of socks stuck in chair. We covered with towels! Tables sticky & old old furniture. Bedding was old, blanket & spread old and coarse. INTERNET AWFUL. Control didn't work either. Air conditioner so loud, didn't ventilate properly. Toilet low, small, very old. Very strange the few occupants, up and about all hours. Truck in lot running early am & late pm, very loud. Our dog growled as the whole place was creepy. We were uncomfortable. Where should I begin.? The good, The owner, Amber, was sociable, to a point. Going to the office for t paper, ice, was nice,once she buzzed you in. The price was very reasonable. But something was OFF. The room pictures online were nothing like the room we got. On first look, room looked good. But so many things did not add up. Great shower and hot water. Toilet seat was loose. Lighting sucked. Main room had two table lamps and two, very bright lights, over the TV. TV was small for the room size. Also , they stream their internet with ROKU. We use ROKU at home, and ave very happy with it. But their internet connection was way to slow. Trying to watch a half hour show often took over an hour. Only two other rooms were occupied. Both of them had to, for some reason, run their pickup engines at wierd hours. Both were very noisy. The parking lot had huge low spot in the middle that filled up with water from rain. The concrete was broken pretty much the entire lot. Then....there was the weirdo's as we called them. Girls with the colored hair and torn up clothes!! Just not an appealing look for a place. They were just walking around the property. Also, no breakfast of any kind, and the office area, whichever has large picture windows facing the main highway, were covered in what appeared to be very heavy black plastic. They prefer cash, up front, which was not a problem for us because it was mentioned at checking. Last notable....they advertise WIFI and it worked with our computer. But no charging ports of any kind were available. Fortunately, we had brought a charging hub along. Lots of nice motels in town, check them out!! read more

I am truly grateful and amazed to have taken the opportunity to stay at this great haven! It's seriously a gem in a spectacular location, close to restaurants, bars, gas stations, shopping centers, bowling alley, and healthcare facilities. The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and eager to make guests feel welcome and appreciated. The rooms are fully renovated, with a log cabin atmosphere equipped with log furniture, microwave, fridge, TV, and WiFi. Everything was super clean and sanitary, housekeeping provided daily with fresh linen, towels and toiletries. The overall quality of staff and accommodation was very exceptional, I loved how the room felt inviting, like being in a cabin out in the woods. Let me start out by saying I am really picky when it comes to hotels, even if for just one night and only used for a place to sleep. I don't remember when the last time I stayed at a motel, let alone stayed at a place that used a real key to unlock the door. That being said, we went up for a two night stay to check out the UP and Lake Superior. After looking for someplace to stay, we came across Hiawatha Motel on Yelp. After reading the reviews, we decided to book the king size room. When we arrived, I still had speculations on our decision. I checked in at the little lobby and the lady (owner) was so nice and hospitable. She was kind and even provided a few suggestions for local restaurants that "are the best in the UP". After checking in, we went to the room. It was recently renovated and was very clean. The bathroom area was sanitized. The bed was made nicely and extremely comfortable. It had a couple chairs and little table. The fridge and microwave was nice and clean. I even watched a little TV (all via Roku). You can tell that the family that owns this property takes great care in ensuring their guests are comfortable, provide a welcoming experience and surprise even the pickiest of guests like me. The Hiawatha Motel is everything you want in an overnight stay on a road trip: clean and comfortable room, comfortable bed, the usual mini refrigerator and microwave, flatscreen TV, and nice shower. Helpful and friendly staff along with reasonable rates all adds up to a winner. Recently renovated rooms add to the experience at this family-owned motel that happened to be at about the halfway point in our trip, so the stars actually did align for us. Their normally included breakfast is on hold due to Covid but there are several attractive options available in the immediate area! This place was by no means terrible and the price was right at about $60 a night, but I will stay elsewhere next time I'm in the area. We definitely did not have one of the remodeled rooms the other Yelpers are talking about. The room was a good size, but it didn't feel very clean. I have been a guest at this property several times in the last ten years. It never disappoints. These are all business trips for me. I am out by 7 am, back around 11, and without fail my room has been cleaned, everything in the room works (every light and lamp, the fridge and microwave, and the WiFi has not let me down). Baymont and Super 8 and other brands could learn a lot from this place. Reasonable rates, the staff will meet all reasonable requests. Ample parking spaces (I drive a pickup, and the last few motels I stayed at were set for subcompacts only I think). If you're in Escanaba, and would like a nice peaceful night in a clean motel, you will not go wrong with the Hiawatha. read more

I normally only stay at the big name hotels but stopped here on a whim. What a pleasant surprise. The customer service was outstanding. Great place. I did take a couple of pictures. We were in one of the remodeled rooms. I think they are at least half done. I was happy to see a USB on the clock. I missed my "My pillow" but it was nice, clean and good coffee in the morning. Nice to see they pulled out the carpet and put in a clean looking floor. Very simple but included breakfast. Stopped at this hotel as we were passing through and used it just for a night's sleep. The owners are very friendly and very accommodating. We stayed here one night on our vacation and it was extremely nice! We were tent camping and the weather turned rainy and cold and we needed to get out of the weather, so we found The Hiawatha Motel a little late in the evening. The owner was very friendly, despite the late hour. We stayed in the jacuzzi room and it was very clean and comfortable. Well worth the money. It is an older building, but the owner is renovating the units. The newly renovated units are modern and VERY nice! One unit sleeps 10! That is amazing for a large family. They offer a small breakfast of fruit, cereal, bagels, and coffee, the coffee was good. It's nice to have a little something to start the day. I would stay here again! You get what you pay for here. But it is mostly clean and the staff is nice and tries hard. It could certainly use a few modest updates, but our beds were surprisingly comfy! The tiny a/c units do an amazing job at cooling the place and they always have hostess donuts and decent coffee in the lobby. It is an old old building, but that lends to its charm. I was looking for hotel's/motel's in the area and saw the Hiawatha Motel's reviews so decided to try em out, but all the major travel and review sites said they were "sold out, no rooms available for selected dates" so I kept changing dates and again "sold out no rooms" I thought that was odd. No place is fully booked ALL the time so I googled their name which linked me to their website site. Every date I checked showed rooms available. I didn't wanna take my chances and book and them if they didn't actually have a room available so I called them directly. They got me a room right away so I asked why they were listing online as sold out if they have room's available. Turns out they are being misrepresented on all major travel sites as sold out and they don't know what to do about it, which is a shame because this place is a GEM!!! I got a renovated queen room for $61.00 TOTAL!!! Breakfast included! What I paid when I checked in was all I was charged! No add on charges for ANYTHING I requested during my stay! The travel sites offered "deals" to other places with so/so reviews for DOUBLE THAT. I am sooo glad I didn't fall for the false advertising! Best customer and cleanest room I have experienced EVER! I will be back Hiawatha Motel. You are now my go to when I go through the UP! I can't give a good enough review that would give this place justice but I hope this helps other customers find you despite the false "sold out's" posted everywhere. Stayed here one night on our way to Marquette. We were very happy with the room. The wifi was great and kept connected during our visit. There are plenty of restaurants near by and within walking distance. We felt very safe here and encountered no problems. We just needed a place to sleep so it fit the bill. read more
