Just an idea of some of the surplus that they have.

Why doesn't this place have more reviews, seriously? This place is truly amazeballs. It is located right off of Rte 1, if you go to Rhode Island Ave you have gone too far. Nope you can't see it from the road, nope there isn't any grand signage. It just is what it is. Metered parking is available. So what is it, you ask? It is the surplus from the UMD system, like everything that you can think of related to an office; from monitors, desks, file cabinets, computers and more. Oh and it isn't cheap stuff either. This is the real deal Holyfield stuff, heavy wood desks, Dell monitors, apple producrts, etc. Now keep in mind that because this is a wwarehouse, theventory fluctuates as it becomes available. Things don't last here long folks. The prices are very reasonable and the items are barely used in my opinion. No guarantees, and no refunds are offered as items are sold as is. I have no problem with this because the prices are uber reasonable and you can tinker with things if needed. Before buying dual monitors (less than $100 total with cables included BOOYAH!) they were set up and tested. They are closed on Mondays and follow the closure of the school (think spring break and the like). My suggestion is to call before you venture out. There is also a website available where you can participate in a live auction. Here's what I know for sure, whenever I need something else for my computer, or office I'm coming here first.

No one should live like that. Chris and his crew stepped in and cleared out all rooms, taking many items for donation and other items to be trashed. They cleared out his kitchen which had so many canned/boxed food items that were expired. Chris even moved items so they weren't a tripping hazard, he pointed out fire hazards too. He did all of this with compassion and understanding, even recommending a company to help with ongoing cleaning/care to avoid my relative's place returning to its unlivable state. He even provided tax documents for donated items. I live out of state and couldn't be there, and Chris communicated with me throughout the process, sending me videos as he progressed. I even got quotes from competitors who weren't as compassionate or affordable. I highly recommend Orion's Attic!! Chris is amazing!!

I used that as an opportunity to visit, and I got to explore the rest of the store. They're located in that random giant industrial area that runs alongside Route 1 on the side where the train tracks are. It can definitely be easy to miss, and parking in the lot itself is quite limited. The adjacent street allows parking too, but sheesh it gets crowded. The vintage store is bigger than it may appear from the outside, and there's truly a LOT to sort through. Furniture, trinkets, pillows... you name it, they have it. There were some small tables and stools that almost found a home with me, but I was like... where am I going to put these things?! My kitchen is already being to be overloaded, and I rather not have that same energy rippling through the rest of the house. I ended up seeing this beautiful and vintage black and gold highball and shaker set that fit my bar / living room space really well, and I couldn't resist. I haven't been back in a while, but I'm sure if I returned I'd find something else neat. We'll see!

I was working with another auction house and found Weshler's was great for some items and the others I take to another auction house for my clients. Here is what I have learned.... when I am unsure of an item like upholstered furniture I send them a picture and they tell me yes or no. Now let me tell you a story, I had a client that had some very "expensive" art work according to the appraisal . Most of the art sold at Weshler's for about 20% of the appraisal others went for twice the appraisal. The client was disappointed at some of the prices but was blown away at one piece of art that sold for $66,000.00 and was only appraised at 20k. Another house I found some wonderful Danish mid century modern furniture and looked it up on line and I saw the same set listed on a few other sites for a 1k+, I took it in to the auction house and Mark told me that this was a less well know manufacturer and it would sell for around $200.00, it sold for $300.00. This is my advise, ask them, send them pictures and what you think is worth the most isn't.
