I needed to see a doc for a referral for an eye procedure. I am still on Fl Blue but transitioning to Medicare in 25 days. Unfortunately, in order for this office to accept a new Medicare patient, the patient must see the doctor first - before being treated by anyone else in the practice. So the suggestion (they're idea) was was to become a patient now (using my FL Blue), see the Nurse Practitioner and then I would be established and when Medicare becomes effective, I can just make the insurance change to the paperwork and I'd already be a patient. So I asked if Nurse Practitioner could see me within the next 25 days and was assured she could - no problem. So, a couple hours later, I showed up at the office to complete the new patient paperwork. I reminded the woman of our earlier conversation (she was busy talking over me so I thought maybe she didn't quite get it.) I filled out quite a bit of paperwork and they made copies of my insurance card and DL. And when it came time to make the appt., she said there was no way the Nurse Practitioner could see me within the next 25 days WHAT?! Lots of wasted time and effort. I was furious! I reminded her that she told me on the phone it was no problem and she just kept repeating, "I know, but I looked." Why didn't she look before she told me yes? Dr. Giebeig may be a great doctor, who knows? Can't get past the chaos at his front reception. If you decide to go, pack your patience. You're going to need it.
