All four of us have lived in McKinney for over 10 years, and even as long time residents of McKinney we learned so much about our wonderful city. I'll admit, even though we come to the square often, there were places I had never been to so it was great to try something new. We frequent Cadillac Pizza but had never tried their Goat and Fig pizza, and will definitely be ordering it again. I have to say my favorite stop on the tour was Butcher Board- another one we have often thought of trying, but have never stopped in before. The sandwich at Butcher Board was fantastic and I really enjoyed hearing all about the care and quality that goes into their food. Essentialz is a new addition to McKinney and funnily enough the owner used to teach Chemistry at our alma mater. The Pantry is a McKinney staple and I think it's great that this tour is able to incorporate both the new businesses and the long-standing businesses on the square. Paul put up with all my questions throughout the tour lol and was exceptionally informative. If you are a history buff, this tour is for you! You will hear all about the little quirks in McKinney's history (like why there is a law against bringing elephants to the square) and how the city came to be a bright spot for us in recent years. It was supposed to rain the day of our tour, so we did need to plan accordingly, and it ended up being quite hot/humid (welcome to Texas). There was water provided at each stop and plenty of time for restroom breaks as well. Thanks to Paul for a great Sunday tour for some McKinney residents!

Three of us met Tall Paul, the owner and tour guide on the square in McKinney Texas. When thinking about starting the business,he and his wife attended a school in Chicago on the subject. Evidently, Chicago is known for food tours. Basically, over a 5 hour period(it was supposed to be 31/2) Paul walked us around old downtown McKinney enlightening us on the history of this lovely North Texas Town and stopping in for small bites and drinks. Our first stop at 11 am on Sunday was an Irish pub! I have to think back a long time to remember when I may have been drinking beer at 11 am on Sunday! I bet 100 years ago people of McKinney would have been up in arms over beer drinking any time on Sunday, especially before church! This is the type of thing that Food Walk and Paul made fun to think about. Our tour wrapped up at a great place with oysters and some lovely mixology drinks. I think if you are open-minded and can roll with it, this may be something different that would expand your horizons. I say, Go!!!

The farm is 10 acres, there is a barn/farm equipment/small general store/sheep, chickens, turkeys/original house built in 1869 you can tour. The docents the day we were there were dressed in pioneer clothes and were so friendly and informative telling us about the Nash family and the history of the farmstead and about the animals. They have lots of events from the looks of it. I highly recommend a stop here if your in Grapevine.

Our first impression was wow! The present neighborhood built around a farm that's been in Grapevine since the 1850's. And the farmer was there tending to the garden when we arrived. The house was open for unguided tours of the upstairs and downstairs. After touring the house we met the farmer. My granddaughter got a chance to talk to the farmer and go with him to pet the sheep. We also went to the Farm store on the property and my daughter bought chicken feed. My granddaughter fed the chickens and that was adorable to catch on video. If you're a history buff or if you enjoy museums Nashville Farm is definitely worth a visit. They accept donations but admission is free.

They supplied all life jackets we needed and a big tube to drag people around and a full tank of gas. Brittany was very thorough and explained all of the parts of the lake, what to watch out for and great instructions for driving the pontoon. We had so much fun and the lake was not busy at all. We booked seats in the Presidential Car, "Miss Joyce," and the experience was outstanding from beginning to end. The car features a comfortable mix of couches and chairs, with seating selected when you book your tickets. It created a relaxed atmosphere that made the four-hour excursion feel special without being overly formal. Our train attendant, Miss Joyce, was absolutely wonderful. She was warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout the trip, and it's easy to see why the car proudly bears her name. When we arrived at our seats, each passenger had a complimentary bottle of water and a snack box filled with watermelon, grapes, pretzels, and cheese cubes. The trip began with a champagne toast for the adults and sparkling apple cider for those who preferred it, which was a fun touch that made the experience feel like an occasion. Additional drinks, candy, and popcorn were available for purchase throughout the ride, and the attendants happily took orders and kept a running tab, making everything very convenient. During the stop in Rusk, we had time to stretch our legs and enjoy lunch. A converted railcar serves as a concession stand, offering items like hot dogs, nachos, chicken salad sandwiches, hoagies, and pulled pork sandwiches, with the option to purchase meals that include chips and a drink. There are picnic tables available, or you can take your lunch back to the train while it's parked at the station. We later learned that meal pre-orders are available, although we didn't notice that information when booking our tickets. The return trip to Palestine was a little quicker but just as enjoyable. From departure at 11:00 a.m. until our return around 3:00 p.m., the entire excursion was relaxing, scenic, and very well organized. If you're looking for a unique family outing in East Texas, we highly recommend upgrading to the Presidential Car. Between the comfortable seating, thoughtful amenities, excellent service, and beautiful scenery, it was an experience we'll remember for a long time.

My wife and I drove up from Austin for an overnight trip to Palestine, Texas, to take the evening…read moredinner train ride on the Texas State Railroad. We sat in the skylight car. Our experience was okay, but just okay. The train car was comfortable, though noticeably dated and in need of some freshening up. The bathroom was unpleasant -- no soap, no paper towels -- and it felt like the cars hadn't received any real attention in years. The train ride itself was pleasant enough, but too long for what it offered. The scenery consists mostly of trees lining both sides of the track, with occasional glimpses of meadows. Nothing dramatic. The train crept along at a snail's pace -- more, I suspect, to fill time than for any safety reasons. The midpoint stop was the highlight of the trip. We had dinner with live music in a lovely setting near a small lake -- genuinely enjoyable. However, the scheduled 1¼-hour stop stretched to nearly 1¾ hours, as we sat on the train for almost 30 minutes without moving before heading back. We arrived over 15 minutes later than scheduled. A few other notes: the train has no Wi-Fi, and the entire three-hour ride is accompanied by piped-in 1940s big band music. The first 30 minutes were fine; after that, it became tedious. Overall, I'd give this experience a 3 out of 5 -- and that's being generous, given the price.
