This is the BEST outing! A beautiful catamaran sailboat with amazing staff, sunset cruise on Lake Ray Hubbard. We went with our family and took a picnic dinner and wine. It was perfect. The captain played a great sailing-themed playlist and let people steer the boat. The kids had a blast - although I will say next time we will not bring our kids. Truly, it was an hour and a half of sheer boredom. I loved the people I was with, but the experience itself was just dismal. Overpriced ($40) and overcrowded, there was little room to do much other than squish around a too-small table and sit on hard wooden benches. There are NO amenities on board, so be prepared to drag everything you need with you. It wasn't even relaxing because you couldn't see much of the lake other than straight ahead, anyway. With people lining every railing, you catch the occasional glimpse of the water between people. I have no idea why it's ranking is so high. Scott is a nice enough guy, his crew willingly took a million pictures, but I'm not sure they have a clear direction in mind. Romantic? Hardly. Festive? Not really. I guess it comes under the heading of something different to do. Some reviews talked about a catamaran. Some mention a top deck, which implies a bottom deck. We had none of that. We had a slow-moving one level sailboat to nowhere. P.S. Don't know if this is always true, but on the night we were there, parking was horrendous. I'd spend the $7 to valet and save yourself a hike! read more

Took my 5-year old daughter out for a sunset cruise... and we had a terrific time. The crew was extremely kind and the cruise was beautiful. Scott was super nice and I think my daughter won't stop talking about how she got to drive the boat for another month or two. My husband suprised me with a sunset cruise, everyone was really nice, the girl helping the captain was wonderful. The captain was great too! I would recommend taking something soft to sit on, they have beanbags up front but all else is wood. They had a drone flying and taking video and pictures, we bought one for 5.00. Turned out great! Now normally when people say, "I sailed with the Captain last night," it means they drank their fair share of Captain Morgan and Diet Coke the night before. However, the Captain that I sailed with this time around is Scott Self. We "Sailed with Scott" last Saturday for my birthday and it was AWESOME. I know that it's in Rockwall, but dare I say it is worth the drive regardless of where you live in the Metroplex. Scott is so cool. (He took 2-3 years to build this beautiful boat himself.) He and his wife are part of a crew of 3. They took pictures of guests, explained things about the boat and were generally just good people. In fact, they will give you sailing lessons and let you steer the "ship:" if you so desire. (And of course I did. All I needed was a Captain's hat.) They supply cold bottled water but let you bring your own food and booze. They even have huge coolers filled with ice for your beverage/s of choice. We sailed around Lake Hubbard and watched the sunset with a glass, or two, of wine in hand. It almost made me want to move to Rockwall. For $25.00 this isn't a bad deal and something totally different to do. Reserve you spot online as they only allow 49 people per trip. Note: They don't charge your credit card until you step on the boat. In fact, one of our friends couldn't make it and they didn't end up charging him. Captain Scott's words: "We don't charge people who don't show up. I figure at some point they wanted to come on the boat and something must have come up that was more important to them." My boyfriend and I went sailing with Scott a few weeks ago and it was a blast! I didn't even know there were options like that around here. I grew up in Plano and have worked in downtown Dallas for a couple of years but haven't played much. I saw Scott's website on Guidelive.com and figured for $25 per person for nearly 2 hours of sailing, it was definitely worth a shot. The boat is beautiful and Scott as well as the staff are incredibly friendly. They will teach you how to sail, take pictures for you, and answer questions. We went on the sunset cruise since its a very hot time of the year and watching the sunset on the lake would be incredible. We had a blast! Many people brought their own wine/beer, food, and were just up and about walking barefoot on the deck soaking in the breeze and the scenery. We truly had a great time. I also didn't know that the area near this Hilton was so built up. There are endless places to eat and hang out, and we'll make sure next time to drop in somewhere and grab a bite to eat. read more

Couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Look at all the houses on the shore that you can't afford. Have some wine and a snack. People watch everyone on the boat having such a good time. Took the 1.5 hour sunset ride and it was worth every penny to my gf and I. There's a bathroom on board but it's a good idea to use the bathrooms down at the dock before you board. Also show up twenty minutes early to park and walk down to the dock, which is down and off to the side of the Hilton. It's non smoking but byob is fine. We brought wine, plastic cups and a meat cheese and cracker tray. Make sure you take lots of pics, bask in the moment and socialize, everyone on board is having a great time as well. My wife and I sailed on the Harbor Lights sunset cruise this evening and it was the most relaxing Sunday evening we've had in quite some time. I highly recommend it. I found the Groupon offer for Sunday nights so we purchased our tickets through Groupon. You still have to make reservations on the Sail With Scott website, but the instructions are included with the Groupon, and the code they provide cancels out the charge. As others have said, print out the Groupon, as they will scan the barcode when you board, and then they check you against the reservations list. This is not really a "spur of the moment" activity because of the online registration requirement. There are no walk-ups. The party boat has two decks, and both had a lot of people, but it didn't feel overly full to me. There was room to move around, but we actually didn't. When we boarded, we went up to the upper deck, found a good seat up front and just stayed there the whole trip. (We were sitting at a table that one of the crew mentioned converted to a bench. So, if your table wobbles, it probably just needs to be locked.) It is BYOB and you can bring snacks as well. We did not - the staff handed out (small) bottles of water, so we had that, and we had just eaten. Next time, we will be more loaded up - we just wanted to go through it once and see what it was like. (There are plenty of places in the area to eat or get food for the boat.) There were people with coolers, people with suitcases (huh?), people with board games and people with nothing. So, whatever floats your boat (so to speak.) You can actually just go and gaze out over Lake Ray Hubbard while cruising at a casual pace (my GPS said we were doing five knots). If you're a very active person who always has something to do, this probably is annoying but it can be good for you - it's called "relaxing" and lots of people do it every day without any signs of harm. I do think it would be fun to take some friends, a bottle of wine, a little antipasti and just cruise around. At just under ninety minutes or so, it's never going to be a booze cruise, but that's not a bad thing for a Sunday night. There were some kids along, so if you're allergic, you might want to try the later cruise - or maybe another night. The final question on the Groupon survey was "Would you do this again without the Groupon?" While I liked saving five dollars each, I would surely pay "Full price" for this cruise. It is a great way to end a weekend. Next time, we'll try the catamaran. read more
