This is a fun place for the kids to try out skiing for the first time. I brought my family to Terry Peak to learn how to ski. I grew up skiing, but my Florida babies hadn't seen snow until this vacation. There's a sweet little ski school that introduces kids to skiing. They get a two hour lesson with other kids, and by the end of it, most kids can safely ski down the bunny slope for the rest of the day. Sometimes they do take the kids on the chairlifts within those two hours, but on the day my kids took the class, they stuck to the magic carpet. Not a problem. Both kids enjoyed their lesson enough that they were up to trying the chairlift with me, and we hopped on, and the staff was kind enough to slow down the chairs to let us get on awkwardly and then to stop the lift when my son fell off when he dismounted. Everyone is super friendly. The instructors were really nice and great at communicating with the parents. The people running the rental area were very understanding when my daughter lost her ski in the powder. The resort is small enough that I was comfortable letting my kids go off with their ski school friends to ski the rest of the afternoon. The kids' green ski lesson package included a beginner's pass that allowed them access to the Stewart lift, so they could go down a couple green circle runs, which was enough for my daughter. The next day, I signed my son up for the Blue ski lesson package. On that day, it was just him and another kid who had also been in the beginner class the day before. The instructor took them to the top of the mountain, and by the end of the 2 hours, my son felt comfortable going down the easier blue squares. Both of my kids are now excited to plan more ski vacations. Terry Peak is probably too small for more experienced skiers to stay amused for long, but for a two day intro to skiing for my kids, it was perfect. We were there for spring break, and it happened to snow for the three days before we arrived, so the mountain was "busy." The lines to buy tickets and get fitted for rental gear were long and slow. But once you are all set up, the resort itself was fantastic. The lines for the chairlifts moved quickly, none of the 30=60 minute waits that I remember from skiing in Tahoe as a kid. The Stewart Lodge Cafe was a very fast place to grab a quick meal. They just serve pizza, hot dogs, burgers, chicken tenders, corn dogs, and chili. There's also a bar on one side that allows kids to sit at the tables but does not allow outside food. I heard that the other lodge has a better menu, but we never made it down there. There's a decent amount of free parking. We took a taxi from Deadwood (cost $35-40 each way) rather than try the icy and unfamiliar roads in a rental. read more

We didn't "hit the slopes" but yet we're packed with others brave enough to take on the wind and cold. No doubt it is a popular place to ski. The bar area offered the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine with a view of the slopes . read more

A fun place to learn to ski, the younger staff member group are very grumpy, unhelpful and down right rude, especially in the rental area. We had positive experience with the older staff. Overall we enjoyed our time. read more

Skiiing? More like stand in line. Welcome to Terry's peak where you pay for a all day pass then wait in line HALF OF THE DAY! Terry is a scam. This process is is not for the benefit of the cash register. One bust buy the pass, then get the gear. After waiting in line for half a day is would be in the customers benefit to buy the half day pass. Enjoy the experience of waiting in line instead of skiing! read more

Very rude staff. Ski patrol kept harassing myself and some family members in which are annual pass holders to "inspect our passes". They did this 4 times prior (within 1.5Hrs) before we decided to just leave on the 5th "inspection". Complaints have been filed for harassment. Dunno what changed; however this year has been TERRIBLE TERRY PEAK!! Check their recent Facebook reviews! Save your 2 hours round trip from rapid 3x a month and just go to a major resort elsewhere. Fantastic place to ski. Tons of slopes for every level of skier. Food is great. Easy to get to.

This is the best skiing in the central states. 3 European high speed lifts, 1000 plus feet of vertical and a variety of terrain that should keep everyone happy. The food in the lower lodge was quite a bit better and varied than the other lodge. The facilities, snowmaking and grooming are all first rate. Low cost lodging nearby in Lead and Deadwood make this a real big mountain bargain. read more

My family stayed here a few years ago in the summer it was great .The home was really nice. I would go back there again..

Very dissatisfied the staff was very rude the women at the boot rental area had terrible attitudes as tho our existence was inconvenient for them. The guys at the ski rental counter were very nice but prices were high compared to what I looked up at Mystic Mountain. Although the staff at the lifts were nice they told us that our passes were only good for the tiny bunny lifts when in fact we could have been on much bigger runs the whole time. Food was very expensive and terrible, rock hard buns on gas station hot dogs. I have been to Mystic Mountain many times and it has fewer options available but won't be going back to terry peak to pay so much and be treated so poorly. From now on I will be going to Mystic Mountain paying less and not dealing with shitty attitudes. read more

Since my childhood, I have immensely enjoyed the Terry Peak Ski Area. Thankfully, as I grew older, the ski resort continued to make substantial improvements to the mountain and its facilities. To date, it boasts the following: -Three high-speed quads -Extensive snow-making capabilities -Varied terrain -Kind staff and service personnel. Although the resort pales in comparison to the ones in Colorado and Montana, it is the best option for those in NE, ND, and SD. read more

I have been all over CO snowboarding and came here not expecting much. I was impressed during my time there. It is not a CO resort, but for the Midwest this is the best place I have been! The prices area very reasonable, more than 50% cheaper than CO resorts. Staff was nice and very helpfull. read more

Terry Peak was a like an overcrowded crack house on Friday, March 12th. My 13 year-old daughter and I come out every year to hit the slopes on her day off from school as a daddy-daughter ski trip. We drove 3.5 hours to arrive at 9:00 a.m. and I have never seen it that crowded. We were unable to park in the main lot and immediately jumped into a line. We were in that line for the next two-and-a-half hours, waiting for lift tickets and then ski rentals. The only guidance and customer service we received was from an employee who would periodically come out of the building and shout that they might run out of equipment and that we were going to be there for awhile. Otherwise, there was no direction, no customer care, and no one appeared to be concerned that we were actual people who were spending out hard-earned money to buy their services. We didn't actually touch the snow with skis for two and a half hours. The snow was pretty lousy, which, of course, isn't the resort's fault. The lift operators were disengaged at best, and rude at worst. I never found one employee the entire day who appeared to be in charge or remotely responsible. I was told that things were like that the day before as well and were all weekend. I have checked the Terry Peak website and Facebook pages and would strongly encourage them to give paying customers some kind of heads up for the horrible customer service experience they are in for when they come to ski Terry Peak. I would have appreciated some kind of warning of what I was getting into. I wouldn't have come. read more

Wonderful slopes to visit especially if you are a beginner like me. Closest town is Lead which is a beauty too. Loved it!
