From the moment we arrived, we were shown nothing but kindness and hospitality from the operators Tara and Mike. The welcoming environment of this place extends into every nook and cranny. Guests can access free microwave popcorn, sodas, ice, and coffee, and can access the main lodge at anytime and sit on the couches or read in the library area. There is wifi accessible and our room came with a tv that included access to a variety of apps, including Netflix. We were fortunate enough to bunk in a family suite and it is perfectly suited for a group of people that are looking for a home-away-from-home feel. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and open-concept kitchen and living area, it really felt like we had our own apartment here. The kitchen and bathrooms are thoughtfully stocked with travel-sized toiletries and condiments, and there are plenty of dishes and cookware to utilize. There would be no need to worry about cooking in the morning, however, because breakfast is prepared and delicious! Every morning was plenty to fill me up for hours, and the variety and quality of food was really exceptional. It is served at a communal table, so everyone at the lodge eats together. This turned out to be the most pleasant surprise, as we began establishing friendships and connections with other people. Between the friendly staff, the beautiful location, and the impressive breakfast, Hisega Lodge went far and above my expectations. The staff at Pine Haven were very nice and accommodating. It was a great experience. The camping area, showers, laundry area were all clean and well kept. The wedding that we attended was very well put together. The wedding service was outside at a beautiful covered open stage area. And the reception was inside a well crafted country style building. With a huge loft area for the women to prepare for the wedding. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who is interested in having a wedding, or any other occasion. The orange chicken could've been mistaken for the packages they sell at Trader Joe's or Costco (and I mean that in the BEST sense - I LOVE those brands of orange chicken!), but the broccoli was obviously fresh and still had a nice crisp to it while being just the right amount of tender. The serving sizes are huge and we weren't able to finish both meals. There are pool tables inside that are extraordinarily expensive, so we only played about two games. There was extremely loud live music we weren't expecting the second night, so we sat outside on the patio to try and get a way from the volume, but we still returned for the ambience and the quick service.

After checking into my room, I grabbed a beer and went down to the sportsbook to make a bet. I took a seat to relax for a minute and put my beer down on the table in front of me. The bartender came over and asked if I wanted to order anything. I told him no. He then picked my beer up and said "We don't serve this beer here. You can't have outside beverages." He then threw the beer in the trash, said "There you go" and left. I was stunned. I couldn't believe that he did that. The proper way would have been, Sir, we don't allow outside beverages. I'd be happy to get you a beer that we serve. Had I have been this employees supervisor and had seen the way he treated a customer, I would have pulled him aside and immediately reprimanded him. This may be the rough and tumble town of Deadwood, but those were the old days. Surly bartenders are no longer the norm. Tourism keeps the town alive. This AL Swearengen wanna-be has singlehandedly succeeded in ruining my stay, and perhaps to the point where I won't stay at this Holiday Inn again. It's my suggestion, that if you stay here, think twice before you patronize the sportsbook bar. You may inadvertently tip someone who couldn't care less about you. Quick Tip: Wear your walking shoes. This is a fun place for the kids to try out skiing for the first time…read more I brought my family to Terry Peak to learn how to ski. I grew up skiing, but my Florida babies hadn't seen snow until this vacation. There's a sweet little ski school that introduces kids to skiing. They get a two hour lesson with other kids, and by the end of it, most kids can safely ski down the bunny slope for the rest of the day. Sometimes they do take the kids on the chairlifts within those two hours, but on the day my kids took the class, they stuck to the magic carpet. Not a problem. Both kids enjoyed their lesson enough that they were up to trying the chairlift with me, and we hopped on, and the staff was kind enough to slow down the chairs to let us get on awkwardly and then to stop the lift when my son fell off when he dismounted. Everyone is super friendly. The instructors were really nice and great at communicating with the parents. The people running the rental area were very understanding when my daughter lost her ski in the powder. The resort is small enough that I was comfortable letting my kids go off with their ski school friends to ski the rest of the afternoon. The kids' green ski lesson package included a beginner's pass that allowed them access to the Stewart lift, so they could go down a couple green circle runs, which was enough for my daughter. The next day, I signed my son up for the Blue ski lesson package. On that day, it was just him and another kid who had also been in the beginner class the day before. The instructor took them to the top of the mountain, and by the end of the 2 hours, my son felt comfortable going down the easier blue squares. Both of my kids are now excited to plan more ski vacations. Terry Peak is probably too small for more experienced skiers to stay amused for long, but for a two day intro to skiing for my kids, it was perfect. We were there for spring break, and it happened to snow for the three days before we arrived, so the mountain was "busy." The lines to buy tickets and get fitted for rental gear were long and slow. But once you are all set up, the resort itself was fantastic. The lines for the chairlifts moved quickly, none of the 30=60 minute waits that I remember from skiing in Tahoe as a kid. The Stewart Lodge Cafe was a very fast place to grab a quick meal. They just serve pizza, hot dogs, burgers, chicken tenders, corn dogs, and chili. There's also a bar on one side that allows kids to sit at the tables but does not allow outside food. I heard that the other lodge has a better menu, but we never made it down there. There's a decent amount of free parking. We took a taxi from Deadwood (cost $35-40 each way) rather than try the icy and unfamiliar roads in a rental.
