The sign on the front door said "Help Wanted: Dishwasher". I ordered the two eggs (Sunnyside up) with the country ham with biscuits and gravy, coffee and water. I also wanted a side order of grits, but they had run out (it was 10:45am on a Friday). Coffee was good. My eggs, country ham and biscuits and gravy were excellent. Highly recommend. My only complaint was that everything was served in Styrofoam cups and plates. Even the utensils were plastic. So if you need a job and live in the Sparta, North Carolina area, they do need a dishwasher...... read more

The food is usually decent...just hate when we order and they read it back to you correctly and you say yes that right......then you get there they read it offering it up ..you pay get home.... wrong .they left out hash browns....I called back...girl on phone telling her co worker...she saying you left out a order of hash browns ..like I lying about...... I've been duped. Snookered. Bamboozled. Hoodwinked. Wooed and enticed by a five star rating, I was so excited to try Terry's. All 5 stars (and a few 4s) from all reviewers! This place must be awesome! My server, who was very sweet and accommodating, enthusiastically touted all the food options to the point that I was salivating. I wanted to try EVERYTHING! I don't know what happened, but my experience did not even come close to what it was hyped up to be. Maybe things were just off today. But I don't think so. The feature burger was nice and big, that is true, but the beef was sorely lacking in flavor and did not perform well on the Texas toast. The hot dog had a good flavor, but was over cooked (it was shriveled and a little hard on the outside). The chili was way too mild and the slaw was way too wet-- the bun quickly became soggy. The fries were just average. The sweet tea was excellent. To broaden the scope of my review, I sampled the chicken salad and found the chicken to be tough and lumpy and the flavor bland. Quaint but a bit dark inside, Terry's is stocked mostly with locals. And for me, it didn't live up to its laudable billing. read more

I'd say, 4.1 out of 5. Went here twice now. The food was good, but was slightly disappointed given the excellent reviews, not just here on Yelp, but elsewhere. Each time I got the double cheeseburger. It's good. Not great. There's no charring at all. In fact it looks gray and a lack of flavor. I don't know if it is low quality beef or high fat beef (73% lean vs. 80%). Again, it was good, but I could get an equal or better flavored burger at some "sit and wait" chains. Ambience - I was a little disappointed when entering. I likely built up an impossible to meet expectation of what it was like inside, though I was surprised there was no counter. I really was expecting the "quintessential diner", I guess. No points lost for this, just a note. The seating is sort of dark, and each of the 2 times we visited there was an annoying fly buzzing around. It happens though. The service was fine. I was expecting more friendliness, particularly since most people in the area we have met are very friendly and it is such a local establishment. They weren't unfriendly by any means, but certainly not top tier service or as friendly as the norm in Elkin. The hardware store in that same plaza have super friendly people. You might think I would be giving it less than 4 stars based on all of this, but, I'm tempering my review due to a likely buildup in my mind, and high expectations. So, I think 4 stars is fair. It's good. We never had anything bad. Just not exceptional. 0.1 points deducted for hours. It's only open until 2:00 daily except Fridays. That's not entirely unusual and Fridays make sense, but I would expect Saturday to be open later as well. read more

So my preceptor took me to this hidden gem right outside the hospital for lunch. This is a small establishment with GREAT prices and food! It's no surprise this place is jam packed at lunch. So when you think 'southern diner', you'd think the food would be dripping with grease. NOT here! I got the chicken salad sandwich and corn nuggets for $5! I HIGHLY recommend the corn nuggets..they are like hush puppies stuffed with corn chowder! So sorry I didn't take a good picture, I forgot my phone, but my preceptor snapped a photo of the whole dish for me. I'll definitely be coming back here before I head back east and let you know how the rest of their menu compares. Parking: private lot, right off the highway They take credit cards! I ordered one of the specials of the night, beef tips. They were marinated, and they were tender and had a good flavor. Also got a baked potato and homemade slaw, with texas toast. Very good meal for $7.99. My son got grilled chicken with bbq sauce, bacon and cheese with fries and a salad ($7.99). I tried the chicken and it was good. My daughter got the homemade spaghetti ($6.50), with a salad and texas toast. Spaghetti sauce was good, tasted like something you would make at home. Their house salad dressing was a creamy Italian, and it was delicious. Server was friendly, and very helpful on my first visit. Took a homemade chicken salad sandwich, with macaroni salad to my wife, and she said it was very good. read more

I always order a "BLT", to go. It's always good. We've also had breakfast there...I don't eat sausage, but my husband's was overcooked and he had reflux all day (he said it was definitely from the sausage. For the most part, our food is appropriate for starting the day. They always have very good Barbecue......I think every one has an off day once in a while (per the sausage). I think I'll get another BLT, soon. read more

Where do I begin? Man this place is great. A little cozy country diner with home cooked food is all you need. Me and my girlfriend used to go here every Friday evening before we moved to school at App State. If you're looking for comfort food, it's waiting on you here at Terry's. My favorite thing to get here is the Terry's Burger. It is a hand patty-ed delight with melty cheese, onions, mayo and lettuce on a buttery Texas toast. A must have! If you haven't gotten a burger here yet, do yourself a favor and go by and get one. The classic double cheeseburger with an addition of bacon is great also. I got the Terry's Mac burger with thousand island dressing and onion rings, my nephew got the standard burger and fries, and my mom got the Terry special burger on Texas toast with homemade chips. Was introduced to this place by my father inlaw it's a small building set on the corner of a small stop and shop when I walked in wasn't expecting much just a pre made flat grill byproduct burger and greasy fries well I was so wrong I ordered the double cheeseburger with fries and sweet tea, when she sat it down in front of me it was it was 4 inches high and perfectly stacked handmade patties cheese melted on top and sides of both layers 1/4 in cut tomato generous leaf of iceberg and extra mayo just as I like it I WAS IN BURGER HEAVEN it was just so juicy the ground chuck was seasoned just slightly had a wonderful grille flavor and even tho it was a tall stacked burger it didn't fall apart while you are it I was so I tranced by the burger I forgot about my fries. When possible I stop there and get a double only when I can but being a small cafe they close at 2pm every day and it's a 60 mile ride to Elkin nc just for a burger but at times when I'm sipping the last of the sweet tea and savoring the burger flavor I think it's well worth it. read more
