This is an OK charging station with limited number of stalls. My biggest gripe was the lack of adequate spaces between the stalls and the steps / stairs, and odd ledges behind the space. I nearly tripped over twice just to plug in and getting in and out of my car. I also shouldn't have had to snake myself out quite the way I did because of the limited space between the stalls. The charging station is in a strip mall with various coffee/boba shops and other quick bite type of places. The pricing wasn't anything extraordinary. 0.47c/kWh when I went. Not bad, but not great either. I wouldn't mind returning if I'm in the vicinity but wouldn't go out of my way to use it. Forum Coffee wasn't the best place to get something to eat and drink so perhaps the boba shop next door if I ever return. read more

This Tesla Supercharger location is near the Genesee Ave intersection, so it tends to get a lot of action especially right after people get off of work! All of the stations were occupied when I arrived, so I got in the line of Tesla vehicles all waiting for a charge. Still with the line, it was a pretty short wait before there was a vacancy. If you're going to own a Tesla, you'd better quickly get proficient at backing into a parking spot. That's how most of these charging stations are designed. This location is very convenient as you can grab a meal at the nearby Chick-fil-A while you wait for your car to charge. read more

Wow! Wow! And Wow!. We were looking for a place to charge having made our way down to San Diego from Los Angelea. We stopped at the chargers off of Balboa Ave. and were rewarded with very fast charging at 120 kW and 422 mi/hr. Our car was humming happily while refilling its hungry battery and this inspired us to look for a location to refill our hungry tummies. There were many options in the large shopping complex around these superchargers suited to a variety of tastes. In the short time it took to grab a bite to eat the battery was full and we were on our way. This is a great place to charge using one of the 16 stalls with high output chargers. San Diego has come a long way since a few years back when the only supercharger in town was the one in Qualcomm. Nowadays there are at least 10+ SCs spread all over the county with more being built as we speak. This particular SC is located in the "Balboa Mesa" complex, a five minute drive off the 805. There are 16 v3 SCs with one designated for handicap placards. Out of all the Tesla SCs built so far this is one of the most convenient not only in terms of location but also amenities. LOCATION Balboa Mesa is located off the 805. If I were using the 805 to drive home I can use this if I really needed a charge as opposed to taking a slight detour and charging at Fashion Valley even if that mall has more SCs. This is great if I were to go around town as if I'm not going to work and back I use the 805 primarily... cannot say the same on the 5 commute (closest would be Fashion Valley and I would have to take a detour). Less than a 10 minute drive east would be heading into the Convoy District, one of the premier Asian dining spots in SD. So glad that if I'm running out of juice and have range anxiety this is a really convenient option... plus I get to have a 85c sea salt caramel coffee, which leads into my next point. AMENITIES Lots of excellent options for a quick bite to eat or drink. Most of the time I would get a 85c sea salt caramel coffee. My favorite quick meal option is Persian food at Balboa International Market, 3 minutes away on foot and also serves as a grocery store and nearest bathroom stop. Not sure if 85c's bathroom is still open with COVID precautions. I hear good things about Mr. Fish and Chips. Chain options to eat are Panda Express, Pieology Pizzeria, Boudin SF (think clam chowder bread bowl) and the Habit Burger Grill. There's also a Luna Grill but personally I prefer Balboa International Market's food much more. Across the street there's a Blaze Pizza, Chipotle and McDonalds. There's also a Kohls and Vons if you want to shop. read more

This place is always super packed and the parking lot design makes it difficult to back in if there's thru traffic. Glad it's nearby and around a bunch of convenient shops like Vons, Kohl's, restaurants, and dessert shops. read more

This Supercharger has a lot of stalls open and I haven't seen a line before. I've charged here 3 times and it has always been smooth. There is a Kohls, Vons, 85 Bakery, Pieology, GameStop, Jersey Mike's and a variety of other places to go while your car charges. The price is pretty high but it is the same everywhere in San Diego due to SDGE. Charging during peak hours is more expensive than driving a gas powered car, so I try to go after peak hours end. Peak hours are 9am-10pm. Peak price: $.56/kWh Non peak price: $.28/kWh read more

Here's a problem. Too many teslas, not enough superchargers. And, when the chargers are broken, who repairs them? Who do we report the problem to? In San Diego, the stations we full. How do we know who is next when there is really no set lineup because they are in parking lots with no set lines. I have seen cars pull in and go ahead of others who had been waiting but there are no rules. Its a free for all. And now Ford and Chevy can use them? Is it possible the battery to die while waiting for an open spot? This is why hybrids are the best solution Buyer beware. read more

Tried this station first time, Using 2C but charging is very slow, down to 14KW, slower than my home charge, but after switch to 3D, it's bump up to 152kw, so watch it when you charge in this location, 2C might need maintenance service, that's why only 4 stars. read more
