I purchased a refurbished laptop about 5 years ago from Tesseract and it served me well but it was time for an upgrade. The owner (Gary) and his staff were REALLY knowledgeable about all their products and had a great selection. I purchased the prefect laptop for my needs and the cost was lower than I expected. My Toshiba laptop pulled a 'slow one' on me. After a reboot, Windows 8.1 failed to start. After hours of looking for solutions on the 'net (not enough drive space to Refresh), I took it into Tesseract and Gary diagnosed the problem immediately as a failing hard drive and suggested installing my laptop's hard drive in an external case and transferring all of my folders to another computer while the drive was still (somewhat) working, thereby saving a number of files that I hadn't backed up yet. Gary removed the drive from my laptop, installed it in a new external case, tested it and all was good. Saved everything! Thanks a million Gary! Cost? $25 + tax. While in the store I overheard Gary detailing the features of a refurbished Lenovo laptop that came with Windows 10 Pro, 8GB RAM and other features all at a great price (it compared more than favorably with other units offered by computer sellers in Victoria). I bought one. Comes with a 1 year warranty. It's been 3 weeks and I'm very pleased with this machine (Lenovo T540P). I chose Tesseract because I've been impressed with Gary's contributions to Tech Talk on CFAX radio in addition to recommendations from a friend who has had good experiences with this company. read more

I have never had an issue with these people and have dealt with them for many years. From laptops to desktop and finally to my server the service has been ace. Sometimes I have a mistake but it's just a quick run to get it repaired and back running better than before, The last repair involved me making a mistake and them fixing it. I dropped off my Lenovo here and had hardware replaced - that experience was fine and what I expected. When I turned on my computer, I realized that the sound card had not been updated and thus my computer had no sound. I called Tesseract and the tech guy (part owner) was off-side, rude, and literally hung up the phone while I was asking him simple questions about whether or not I could trouble shoot without having to bring the laptop back in. I called again and spoke to the other owner who said that he deals with this sort of feedback all the time. I'm dumbfounded - how do these guys stay in business with this approach? Although the second owner was apologetic and pleasant, I would recommend looking for another computer repair shop -- too many on the island that actually appreciate your business and are happy to have friendly customer service. read more

Took my iMac in to have them install a solid state drive. After we dropped the system off, I commented to my wife that they must be excellent technically if they could stay in business with their poor customer interaction skills. When I got home with the updated machine, the wireless mouse didn't work right. I called Tesseract and when I started to explain the problem, he interrupted and said that he had used a wired mouse and it worked, so the problem must be with my mouse. When I told him that my mouse was working before the change and that I wanted to bring the system back it to have him fix it, he hung up on me. BTW. I certainly learned a lesson here. I doubt I will ever use these people again. I fell for buying a refurbished Lenova. Mistake #1. Because I am disabled, I called ahead to make sure they would have one available. They Said yes, had no difficulty in taking my money. The Lenova never worked well from the time I got it home and hooked it up, till a couple of weeks later when I had a tech look at it. He confirmed it was not working well, and then discovered it's SSD was defective. If they had 'refurbished' the computer, they would have found that out. I had to buy a new SSD, and pay for a Tech to install it. I wrote a letter to them...they paid me 1/2 of the amount of the new SSD, and blamed me that they have a 1 year warranty and they would have looked after it if I had asked them. I doubt I will ever be back -- I wouldn't recommend them at all.They didn't bother to tell me about any warranty, and that is why I had the machine repaired locally. read more

There are two guys here. One, with the European accent, is the rudest most unhelpful person I have dealt with in 20 years. Honestly. He could not be worse. The other guy is fine. He seems knowledgable and capable. My wife brought her laptop in because she had a virus. Upon getting it back, the computer could not install our printer (yes, we know how to install a printer. There was a malfunction somewhere). She took it back, was treated rudely, and came home with the instructions to download the drivers (We already knew that. It still didn't work). So I phoned in. The European guy was outrageous. He would not listen to the problem. Told me he wasn't fixing problems for free, and hung up on me. I called back and the next guy was helpful. He seemed to understand. he listened. Still there was nothing he could do, he said, and gave me the number of a mobile computer tech (at $79 per hour). If not for the second guy, I'd give this negative 5 stars if I could. The thing is, a few months ago when the computer was new, we just turned it on and bingo, it led us through the printer installations. But when we got it back from Testeract, it did no such thing. I called another shop. They said "absolutely we can fix it in 1 hour. Bring laptop, printer and modem". Boom. Problem solved. Lesson learned. read more

My experience was fairly poor. The tech that came to my office (1 block from their store) failed to fix my problem, overcharged for the visit, and charged me for the phone call when I asked him a simple question (could have answered in 2 minutes, took about 15 and charged by the minute for the call). I complained to the owner and gave clear details of the overcharging and he made no effort to make me feel less ripped off. read more
