While I still stand by my review, I didn't go into detail about what occurred because I was deep into trauma and mental turmoil due to the incidents involved on that campus. Starting off in 6th grade, I was hazed endlessly by peers and even staff for being "too feminine". Instead of helping, the administration at this school disregarded my mental health altogether. If I did anything that was not in their standards, I was either punished or ignored for complaining about being bullied. In 7th grade, I started to engage in self-harm and fell into a state of depression and anxiety that I was unaware of. I would come into school everyday with the mindset that I was going to be bullied and I wouldn't have any support if I decided to speak up. This was instilled because of the lack of care the administration had for students, typically POC or individuals with disabilities. I watched alot of my friends with learning disabilities get negatively criticized and even punished for "bad behavior". Specifically, there was an incident where I was physically assaulted by multiple male students on campus, and when I went to report it, those students still roamed the halls and hazed others while I would get ISS for any altercation or incident where I was behaving inappropriately. 8th grade was manageable, because I understood the school didn't care for certain students and I unfortunately fell into that bias. I had one teacher in particular that would comfort me because she also understood the underlying motives the administration had against certain students, and tried her best to help those in need. There was also 2 incidents on campus that involved a student bringing a firearm, and threatening the school. I personally saw alot of white students carry pocket knives and drugs on them, and were never considered suspicious or searched for their behavior and comments they would make. The counselors at this school were helpful, however they were not confidential and revealed information to my parents that were unnecessary to announce. I understand counselors need to tell parents when they believe their child is a danger to themselves or others, however, the information told my parents was in fact not dangerous or threatening, but took a jab on their parenting styles and blamed their lack of care for the school's trauma-inducing incidents. I've left out plenty of specific incidents that led to therapy, and while I don't think the environment is the same as it was 2015-2018, I still stand by a 1-star review that I don't think they deserve. If your child is going to be attending a middle school soon, please consider online, private, or even a different local school for them, as they will not be enjoying their time at this school.

This school program is not like the regular school districts, the teaching and grading system is a "360" to the public schools. As far as I know, all the teachers at this school care and love their teaching job. Unlike the kindergarten public school my son first attend, it's was sad and horrible. The teachers there seem to take on the their role more like a job than a career. My son is happy attending school here, even when he's sick he still wants to go to class. I tell you, it's different here and different in a good way. Also the cafeteria food is also good, most of it is made on the school kitchen. They have expanded and remodeled. The schools serves Pre-K through 5th grade. The principal is Estelia Wallace. The campus is massive and so aesthetically pleasing! The school is super secure. The staff are very friendly, polite and professional. I love coming to this campus to see students. This campus is categorized as bilingual/dual language. The school colors are Royal Blue and Gold. The mascot is a Knight. This campus is part of the Texas Education Agency (TEA). For the 2017-2018 academic year the campus "Met Standard" in Performance and Accountability ratings.

It's a class of 15 kids and the Administrators are actively sheltering, coddling, and enabling a child to spit on kids, hit them, he's put scissors to his throat. He's done obscene things like put two fingers up to his mouth and stick his tongue between. And the kids all have to see this because the school hides behind FERPA and acts like they can't do anything to resolve the issue. They've told myself and two other parents we can remove our kids from the class to another class. Here's what we've found out the mom of the troubled student is an assistant in the district or school, and the school is already short staffed. School is almost over, so they definitely don't care; even though we've had a problem with said student since August when school started. My daughter has had her hair cut, she's been hit, yelled and so much more by this kid. The mom has confirmed he has ADHD and "other problems" yet he's still with all the other kids. He's not exactly "non-verbal" but he also isn't very verbal and he's very aggressive. I guess the school is waiting til someone gets seriously hurt til they actually do something, which I pray it never does but I'll be close by to recount our experiences. There's so much more to say, they made the two kids (5 year olds) sign a "stay away agreement" now they're saying the kid is yelling and harassing my daughter because she won't stay away from him. She tells me they're lying, she tries her best to stay away from him but it's a small classroom and he doesn't always stay to himself. The few times she's slipped up and gotten close to him she sincerely didn't notice and keeps trying to stay away. We have talks about it daily, but also; she's not the one spitting hitting and yelling. She always nice and sweet, but I still have to explain she needs to stay away. It seems like a weird case of favoritism because I've seen both the principal Amy Copes and the Vice principal Ms Del Pozo coddling him, having him on their laps, going out of their way to give him special treatment that I've never seen any other student receive. In fact, the teacher and substitutes regularly have to hold his hand throughout most of the day to make sure he doesn't run off throughout the school. Most of the staff and teachers are honestly great, but the administrators really make it clear that the 0 tolerance policy for bullying and hitting doesn't apply to everyone the same. Especially if mommy/daddy work for the district.

Im a single mom and this was a new STEM school I wanted my kid to have a better education, BIG MISTAKE!!! The school has Stranger walking around "fixing the school" but you can't walk YOUR KID to class before 730. You can only leave them at the door and hope they wall straight to class. the girls bathroom put their tissues lon the dirty floor and expects the girls to wipe with it. The teachers are always on their phones never paying attention to the children outside. My son was bullied by MULTIPLE STUDENT in his class and in their after school care (they allow all ages together and put them in a room until 630) one girl put my daughter finger in a pencil sharpener and cut her hand the teacher said NOTHING until I got there and she didn't clean it or put a bandaid on it. I brought up the incidents to the teachers and principal I was told we couldn't switch classes and slowly after that my children became targets. Every time my son tried to tell on the student (they pulled his hair called him names pushed him down) HE WAS PUNISHED; they made him move his clip and even put him in ISS even took his jacket on one of the coldest days in San Antonio (even tho other students were allowed to wear their jackets due to the weather). Their iss is CREAPY (He had to sit ALONE in the male principals office all day in the back of the school just him and this random man, mind you this is a new school we haven't known any of these teacher previously) that made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable, it felt like the principal was looking to put my son in iss for anything now, at our other school he was a star student; straight As NEVER been in trouble; thats why I wanted to challenge him with a STEM school but safe to say we're going back to our previous school and I'll be contacting the school board about this HORRIBLE schools practice. I am writing this review to assist those who are interested in participating in a City Year. I will…read morestart by saying that a City Year will be one of the most challenging things that you may do. It will also be the most rewarding. It's a 10 month program where you will work in low-income schools as tutors, mentors, and role models to students. You'll have the opportunity to define how you want to impact your students, i.e. create customized lesson plans, plan events, find ways to collaborate with the school you are placed in, etc. If I could go back in time, I would do my City Year BEFORE attending college instead of after. However, I definitely will also recommend doing a City Year after you graduate college. This program gives you the opportunity to give back in a way that you never knew you could and it also makes you really think about what it is you want to do in your lifetime (career or other). The only reason why this is not a 5/5 rating is because you are paid a "living stipend". It can be hard living on a stipend but a lot of us are able to pick up weekend jobs to make up for the rest, and also, you WILL learn how to budget while on stipend and budgeting is good, right?
