This school isn't just the best because they dominate on the mats (um, hello world champions!) Where they shine is HOW they cultivate a winning mindset. My son is special needs and started at age 6. The Sabumnim there realized pretty quickly that a full class setting wasn't a good fit for him. So they sat down with us and rather than say "we can't do this" like so many places had in the past, he said "I think he would do better in private lessons for a while." WOW. So we did that. Still very reasonable in price, but it allowed my kiddo to learn in a setting that was appropriate for him. We did that for 2 years until the instructors invited him into class. Now at age nine, he is almost ready to move up to the bigger kids classes and start the full belt path. The kindness, the patience that the entire Karate Workshop family has is amazing. They understand his issues, but they don't bow to them. He is accommodated to a point, but if his behavior is out of bounds, they call him on it and there are appropriate steps taken to work past it. They don't do the "every six months or weeks you move up a belt" thing here. If you are looking for them to give you a belt rank just for showing up, this isn't the school for you. You or your child have to work to earn it. When you get those stripes and ranks, it's because you deserve to have it. You can actually do what is expected at that level. They also make sure they build community there. All of us feel it, feel welcome and like we matter. We use each others services and promote each other's companies and work. It's a pretty amazing place all around.

We…read morechose Min Hur because it is close to home and we like the approach of Grand Master Min Hur and his instructor Mr. Barrios. For the record, I hate going to gyms (waiting on machines, then watching people glare at me as I use the machine I had been waiting on), I don't like to run, and swimming for me is a seat on the bench in the pool with a cold beverage in hand. But I do need to exercise. So it was just a few weeks ago that I put my 48 year old body through a trial class at Min Hur's and I've been hooked ever since. The classes are invigorating, the instructors are patient, and I am learning a life skill. But most importantly, I've gained a great activity that I can share with my son. What more could I ask for? One big plus here - they offer family classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and my son and I can also work out together on Saturday mornings as well. Yes, he outranks me - and I'm constantly reminded of that. But I couldn't have asked for a better way to get back in shape - and I will beat him to black belt! Thanks Min Hur!

I was looking for a way to change my life when I found Authentic Kung Fu. I left a message so I…read morecould ask questions and got an immediate response. I was invited to come to 2 days of classes to decide which style would suit me. The building isn't in the greatest neighborhood and the school was ok. The impressive thing about the school was the quantity and diversity of weapons around the school. Sifu Cottrell, the owner and teacher at the school greeted me warmly. Classes were in session and Sifu took the time to give me a tour. He Started with his lineage, who his teachers were and who his teacher's teachers were. In Sifu's lineage, Ip man had taught his teacher! We sat for a while, while he educated me on Wing Chun and how Bruce Lee was the most famous practitioner. I came the next day to see Praying Mantis style, which even for a lay person was vastly different than Wing Chun. I had never seen anything quite like it, especially after watching so many Kung Fu movies. Sifu and I agreed Mantis would suit me best and it has. The instructors are top of the line. So patient, will explain and demonstrate techniques 100 million ways until you get it. I always felt supported and inspired to learn from the community of students. I never heard anyone speak an ill word or treat anyone poorly. The community of students welcomed me and I felt safe to both succeed and feel failure. Truly, I could go on and on, but there really is no greater place to learn Kung Fu and to embrace your potential.
