Our daughter is currently working here, which gave us a chance to spend some time in the area and see just how massive this medical district really is. The area is beautifully maintained and enormous, with world-class hospitals, research institutions, and medical schools all concentrated in one place. This review is for the the accessibility (parking, transportation, etc) to the different areas of the Texas Medical Center. Parking is one of the main things that should be addressed for a large volume center. Whether you are part of the large workforce in the many hospitals or a patient visiting the clinic or ER, parking should be easy. Some of garages are designed badly (two way traffic in narrow lanes and lots of blind spots). It can routinely take more than 10 minutes just to park in a garage, on top of travel time in Houston. As part of the business, parking seems to be a large source of income. I have gone to several locations in TMC, and the cost of parking is $$. Some garages charge $5-10 for the first hour, but I never have been in and out within an hour. Most garages are $10-20 for an average, single appointment. If you have lots of appointments, just parking alone gets expensive quickly. In addition, public transportation in Houston is not a good option. While the cost of a bus ride is much more affordable, the time you need to spend looking up routes and the time spent waiting and getting the bus can be easily 2-3 hours, if you aren't already inside the inner loop of Houston. Since TMC is a large campus, you would think that there might a regular bus loop for the different parking garages and hospitals and other buildings. However, since there are several different, large healthcare groups, each of the groups only provides transportation services to their own group of buildings. Privileges for a student or staff for UT Houston and Baylor College of Medicine are completely separate. read more

I will never use Teladoc again after my experience with Dr. Elizabeth Onugha. From the very beginning of the call, she had an attitude and came across as completely unprofessional. I was on hold for over 10 minutes, and when she finally joined, her tone was rude, dismissive, and impatient. Instead of showing empathy or professionalism, she hung up on me -- without ever asking about my sick child. As a hardworking mother with excellent insurance, I expect basic respect and compassion -- not attitude and rudeness. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable, especially from a medical professional who is supposed to care for families. 0/10 -- I would never recommend Dr. Onugha or Teladoc to anyone. Patients deserve to be treated with kindness and understanding, not dismissed or disrespected. read more

The Texas Medical Center is a city within a city. This is not the actual address. There are many hospitals and specialized hospitals that make up the Texas Medical Center. I find most doctors to be 4-5 stars but other issues such as their staff's incompetence, follow up and some of the nurses I've experienced prevented me from giving them a higher star rating. The Texas Medical Center is suppose to be the largest Medical center in the country now with the best quality of doctors and variety of specialties. Some examples are MD Anderson Cancer Center which people from around the country and world come to for the latest treatments. We have Shriners Hospital for kids with illnesses and defects out of the normal childhood illnesses. I took one of my foster kids there several years back and she was thoroughly examined if it was possible to fix a blotched surgery she had done in a third world country. The entire staff and doctor were the best I have ever encountered. Plus there is never a charge to you if you don't have insurance. The Texas Children Hospital is the largest and most well known hospital for the kiddos. They are usually up to date on medical procedures but I feel they could be run more cohesively. We had to be there at 7am for one of my foster kiddos to have an easier double surgery. She was not taken back until 6pm that evening. She couldn't eat or drink since midnight the day before. It was real hard on her. We have Ben Taub hospital for severe traumas. They have a helicopter pad on the roof like a few other hospitals. There are your multi issue/disease hospitals like Methodist and Chi St Luke Hospital. Very good doctors. Michael E Debakey (Michael Debakey was one of the major pioneers in heart surgery in Houston) VA center is also in the Medical Center. Great for our Veterans. Valet parking was free during off hours. Not sure now. University of Texas Hospital is a teaching institution and Hospital. They do high detailed levels of medical research. I was there once for 4 hours just for an assessment. They are extremely detailed. We have Texas Women's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine and many more hospitals. Just google if you have a special need. The Texas Medical Center's big negative is the high parking fees now. They were so much less in 2010 and prior. I understand inflation but they are very inflated now. Traffic can move slow on Fannin St. so plan a lil extra time. Some of the hospitals have several places to eat, some have few. Important make sure they have your current insurance at all times. Also pay attention to your bills because screw ups still happen. Yes there are incompetent people in billing at times. Not all experiences are great. My last visit at one of the hospitals for 10 days almost all the nurses in my unit seemed like they were having bad episodes of bi-polar and were mean. For my confidentiality and HIPPA laws I refrain from mentioning the hospital. Overall I find the doctors to be good but the nurses and the front desk people can have terrible people skills at times. The last bad experience I had was when a nurse was setting me up for a test and answered her cell phone 3 times in an area where cell phones are Not allowed! The test was a failure. There are not enough stars on yelp to explain the awesomeness that is the Texas Medical Center or TMC for the cool kids out there. First off the location is prime, minutes away from the epicenter of Houston itself with access to many major freeways. It is surrounded by the beautiful Hermann Park and the glorious Museum district. Running smack-dab through it is Houston's only MetroRAIL. Not only does the TMC contain some of the world's greatest hospitals for pediatrics, cardiac, emergency care, and many other specialties it houses some of the best teaching facilities around. Texas Women's university, Baylor College of Medicine, and UT's Health Sciences building are just to name a few. Be glad we live in a city with such a renowned medical center, and be on the lookout for the new buildings popping up. I really appreciate having all the specialized hospitals and clinics around the same area. But, I do hate the parking situation! I usually go to the Baylor building for testing and even inside the private parking lot it's almost impossible to find a spot! Crazy! Kind of reminds me of my New York days. I have also been to the medical center to participate in 5k runs for breast cancer and colon cancer awareness. People fly from all over the country and even internationally to get treatment at TMC, so I am appreciative of having this great medical Oasis right around the corner! read more

Tons of options for your hospital stay, some of the best doctors in the world, and the entrance and exit to each and every hospital is just as tricky. I have dropped my wife off at the medical center for years and still have yet to figure everything out. The Texas Medical Center deserves 5 stars simply because it houses institutions that save thousands of lives. It's getting 4 from me because as a TMC employee, I get gouged on commuting and dining costs. The following are my TMC tips: Park in the BEN TAUB garage off Cambridge, Entrance 21, for the low low price of $10/day. Outlying MD Anderson garages are also $10/day. Any garage operated by TMC will cost you $12/day. The Ben Taub garage is usually full by 10 am. Need even cheaper parking and don't mind a walk? Park at the Fiesta on Main and Wheeler/Richmond and hop on the MetroRail and get off at any of the 3 TMC stops. You can also park for free at the Metro Northwest Transit Center on Old Katy Road and catch the 298 commuter bus (this is a big nice bus) which is a direct line to TMC, but this route will cost you $4.50. The morning buses run until 9 am and the afternoon buses start at 3 pm. If you're scheduling doctor's visits for yourself, I'd look for offices in the Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza (Main and Cambridge), as parking is never full and you can skirt the inner maze of the TMC. For ER visits, sometimes you don't have a choice, but if you do, choose St. Lukes. As far as ERs go, it's pretty good. Bring snacks! Unfortunately, most restaurants close early in the medical center and aren't open on weekends. Do NOT eat at the TMC Commons. Everything closes by 2 pm, and even when it's open, the options aren't great. Try the MD Anderson or Methodist cafeterias or one of the restaurants (Subway, Chipotle) on Fannin. The proximity to the Houston Zoo and Hermann Park is great if you're (sadly) visiting a family member in the hospital. If you park in the Ben Taub garage, you can walk across the street to a zoo entrance. read more

I don't think I could add much to the conversation about how wonderful the Texas Medical Center is - that's already been established. So, I will help you with the biggest problem everyone seems to have: Parking. Yes, it can be expensive to park here - but it does not have to be. However, If you want the convenience of parking in a multimillion dollar parking structure next to the building, be prepared to cough it up. (That's anywhere you go) Here's the deal. 1. The ultra-convenient Valet is ~$15. 2. Parking in the aforementioned garage is going to run from $2 to $12 depending on your length of visit ($8 will get you 2 hours to 2 hours and 20 minutes). See the photo I posted for the rate schedule. 3. Reduced Rate Parking, which is located at the intersection of S. Breaswood and William C. Harvin Blvd, will only cost you $2 for 4-6 hours, $6 for 8-24 hours. TMC's METRO Shuttle buses provide service from the visitor section to the main campus from 4:30 am until midnight each weekday. (Any further questions about parking in the Medical Center can be answered by the knowledgeable and courteous TMC Parking Services Representatives at 713-791-6161). 4. Finally, there is public transportation - No parking needed. METRO is $1.25 each way. If you live in Houston, there is no reason why this can't work for you. It works for me and thousands of other employees & visitors. Google Maps - bus route - done. So, if you do your homework and a little planning before you head into the medical center, you can avoid unnecessary pain and anguish - you may even prevent giving yourself an aneurysm. read more

A mad, mad, maze of a medical facility! It comes complete with public transportation that will drop you off in front of most of the buildings, and has has valet options at most, if not all of the hospitals as well. Every problem you have can be handled here. Be careful you aren't given a generic address before going because there are a couple of "main" addresses that are used to cover the portions of the Med-Center and you will end up lost and/or spending a lot of time on foot walking. read more

Well...I can not speak for everyone who are sick or stressed out. I have been to many Medical Centers...whether as a patient or a caregiver, this is as good as thing can be. Granted we all prefer to be elsewhere and i agree, But for those of us whose work and has to come here...It is one of the top medical advancement treatment centers, the core innovation of the state of Texas (purely my opinion!). i am SO not a fan of traffic or idiot people who think they can run out in front of your car in the middle of the road and then get made cuz you almost killed them! seriously, walk in the walk zone and ONLY go when the little man lights up you imbeciles. i'm just praying that noone gets killed in front of me. omg, the lights are also kinda retarded. you will sit sometimes for over 5 min waiting for the light even if you are going straight with the train. oh and people stopping in the lane to drop people off; this is NOT a drop off zone. turn into the building and drop them off in the drop off zone. this was the main reason i did not want to work in the med center. aside from my complaints, there are lots of lunch options within walking distance so you don't HAVE to drive off especially if you have to be shuttled in (like me) or pay for your own parking. read more

My wife rushed me to this health clinic close to home for an emergency checkup and we were really surprised by the immediate care and attention by the personnel. The doctors were polite and although they assured me that it was a slight stomachache, they kept me for a couple of hours for precaution. Great medical attention! read more

Re: TMCx The Texas Med Center has always been renowned world wide for its care. We were approached by TMC and TMCx (its subsidiary accelerator) for assistance in different forms. We were dismayed to hear from several of our very dear friends who are doctors in the medical center to hear the way some of the administrators are treating them. Particularly, some of our physician entrepreneur friends have literally been turned away by TMCx from Lindsay Deneault -its Chief Strategist. We don't understand how you can foster collaboration, unity, and innovation by turning away your own doctors. We are embarrassed and shocked to hear that. Apparently, many even inside the walls of TMCx think that Ms. Deneault is more of a liability than an asset. Dr. Robbins and Mr. McKeon need to be informed of the unprofessional behavior of Ms. Deneault who is clearly not a good representative of the institution's integrity and stewardship. We hope that a person of higher standards and caliber will be appointed to take care of the entrepreneurs that come to TMCx. read more

The Texas Medical Center itself is great but Garage 7 is a bad garage to park in and is poorly maintained. The parking spaces are so tight you cannot get out of your car once you park. The ticket machines are always broken and it has taken up to an hour to exit the garage on two different occasions because of the ticket system failing. The elevators are questionable on their safety. One of them is out almost every day and today 2/21/2018, 3 of the 4 elevators were not working. I do not recommend parking in Garage 7 as I question the quality of management and safety. Methodist hospital has parking in the same area. I recommend going to those garages or ride the train. read more

World's largest medical center. Parking is a hassle. Traffic is a hassle. But if you need to find a highly qualified physician, the TMC is hard to match. Collectively, the institutions in the TMC are also the largest employer in Houston. Need a job, a good place to look for all sorts of skills. If you planning to work in the Medical Center, think seriously about housing along the Metro. It runs reliably and operates evenings and nights. Bicycling the linear parks along Brays Bayou is another option for commuting, Houston weather is actually quite bicycle friendly although it helps to have access to a shower when you get into work. For visitors from out of town, most of the hotels in the area surrounding the Medical Center offer free shuttles, as do many apartment complexes. Problem is that the apartment complex shuttles may run once an hour while the Metro runs every five minutes. read more
