This is a state-of-the-art facility rated number one in Texas. Yes, it's huge, and yes, the medical center is very crowded and parking can be difficult. But when people really need the best care, they come to Houston from everywhere in the world. I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had a robotic assisted surgery which took half of my left lung and I was alert conscious and feeling good just a few hours after the 5-hour procedure. because Dr. Kim used robots so the incisions were small, and my recovery was quick. I was sent home the next day. One day stay for major surgery! The timeliness of care was excellent. it was 2 weeks from referral to meet with the surgeon and two additional weeks to schedule the procedure, so I was essentially cured of my cancer within one month. this compares very favorably to the other cancer hospital next foor, which has a waiting list. to summarize, I had a great surgeon, a state-of-the-art operating room, competent nurses and everyone had a good attitude. really couldn't be better. read more

The medical center is huge and often difficult to navigate but if you need the best care this is a facility you can feel confident will take care of you. Staff was attentive and made you feel like you mattered. Having a pt in other hospitals I promise this facility far outranks its competitors. My husband had major surgery and was cared for and discharged timely back to home. I appreciate everyone from the doctors to the security guards that helped me find my way to a hotel directly across the street. On January 27, 2026, at approximately 3:15 PM, I checked in to the 25th floor of the OPC building for a left knee gel injection administered by Dr. Flannery. This injection was the result of two prior office visits the previous week for the same knee pain, for which I paid the required $50 copay at each visit (totaling $100). The gel injection itself was not an office visit but an in-office procedure that's fully covered and required no copay as verified by Quantum Health! When attempting to complete electronic check-in through MyChart, I was unable to proceed due to a required $50 copay. I contacted Houston Methodist Billing, explained the issue, and the billing representative contacted my insurance to verify coverage. After confirming that no copay was required, she removed the charge and informed me that she "learned something new today," noting that many staff do not understand the difference between an office visit and an in-office procedure. Upon arrival for my injection, front desk staff on the 25th floor again demanded a $50 copay. I calmly explained the steps already taken and informed them that Houston Methodist Billing had already removed the charge after insurance verification. Despite this, I was told I would not be allowed to proceed with my appointment unless I paid. I contacted my insurance provider on the spot and asked staff to speak with them directly. The staff refused. I then requested a manager. A billing lead for the floor came out but also refused to speak with the insurance and insisted I must pay. The insurance representative was listening to this entire exchange and requested that an office manager speak with them; this request was also declined. Eventually, a supervisor named Angie came out and agreed to speak with the insurance. Even after the insurance confirmed that the procedure code did not require a copay, she insisted that EPIC showed a $50 copay because the injection was administered by an orthopedic specialist. The insurance clarified that the provider specialty is irrelevant--procedures do not carry copays, office visits do. At that point, it became evident that the issue stems from systemic miscoding and improper front-end verification practices. I was explicitly told that two verification employees--Gonzalo and Tavis--apply a blanket $50 copay for all encounters rather than verifying service codes properly. This aligns with my experience over several years, during which I am repeatedly forced to pay incorrect copays and later receive refunds after backend audits. This practice appears to rely on patients either not knowing their benefits or not having the time or energy to challenge improper charges. It places an unfair burden on patients, creates hostile front-desk encounters, and undermines trust in the Houston Methodist billing process. My questions to Houston Methodist leadership are straightforward: Is this practice officially condoned? If not, why has it not been corrected systemwide? Why are insurance verification staff not properly trained on the distinction between office visits and in-office procedures? Why are patients routinely forced to overpay and rely on backend refunds rather than being charged correctly upfront? I am exhausted from having to fight this same battle every time I receive an in-office procedure. Numerous complaints over the years have resulted in no meaningful change. Same billing issues exist in other departments including Pain Management. Billing should not be a difficult task. I recently went to this hospital im not sure if it was my hijab or the fact they were genuinely incomptent dirty hospital for one and then refused to put an IV in the fold of my elbow instead put struck me in two sides of my arm lll to get my tropinin levels which they ended up never getting and now im left with a huge bruise on both sides of my arm. I had physical therapy with Methodist PT in Friendswood Texas. I started therapy 3 days after my meniscus and acl reconstruction. I went to PT for 15 weeks and never got any better. They had me doing the bare minimum exercises which included bike 10 min, total gym 10 min, heel raises and walking backwards and forwards. The sessions ranged from 25-40 min each. The therapist never accessed my progress after each visit for a plan on next visit. They did not do hands on therapy. I went for my follow up with my surgeon and he was floored that I had no progress with my recovery. He told me to not use Methodist and wrote new orders for CS Foster. I didn't know all I missed until using them. They were shocked that my care after 4.5 months was not on track. Methodist set me back 4 months of my recovery. I called Methodists PT patient advocate and she seemed disinterested in my complaints and offered no resolution or apology. For about three weeks from late December to mid-January of this year, I experienced the worst imaginable service, compassion, and competence from a variety of people on the Houston Methodist(HM) staff. The experience was disastrous. I have had a prostatectomy at Cleveland Clinic and various procedures at Mayo and these institutions are light-years ahead of HM in terms of customer service, empathy, and general competence. The staff is woefully under-trained. As a group, they are lacking in basic patient relationship skills. Their interface with the public through telephone services and messaging is prehistoric and very user-unfriendly. During that period I tried diligently to make an appointment to repair two hernias, including pre and post-op consultations and attendant labs and other tests, as well as a PSMA PET CT scan. A PSMA PET scan is an imaging test that detects prostate cancer metastasis anywhere in the body. Despite carefully and repeatedly explaining my situation to anyone who would listen (and there were few of these), both appointments were impossible to arrange. Regarding the hernias, I was finally able to arrange a consultation with Dr. Patrick Reardon for January 27, 2026. During this conversation, we also discussed having the hernia repair within a few days of this because I was traveling from Mexico. Although I emphasized my current location out of the country and my short time window in Houston, no mention was made of Dr. Reardon't inflexible rule that he would need to see me in person two weeks after the repair. Nor was any mention made of any other pre or post op requirements. But the most troubling incident was when a receptionist happened to mention in passing that Dr. Reardon would be away for two weeks, including on January 27, the day of our consultation. I have never received any notice from anybody on Dr. Reardon's staff that he could not make our appointment. I then tried numerous times, every day, to contact his office, by email and phone, to reschedule. I could never speak to a human being. I got the same message repeatedly: the person you are trying to reach is helping someone else, please leave a message and they will get back to you soon. I left numerous messages and NEVER received a reply, by text, email or phone. I tried many numbers associated with this department and got busy signals for hours and hours. It was obvious phones were left off the hook to give the impression the line was occupied. I was able to establish a MyChart account. They could have sent me a message that way, but they never did. This scenario was not limited to Dr. Reardon's staff. After I learned he would not be there for my consultation, I tried to set up an appointment with other doctors, but the result was always the same. Nobody answers the phone, nobody returns calls, nobody sends texts or emails. It's a disgrace. Trying to set up my PSMA PET scan was no different. Half of the employees I spoke with never heard of the test and some even told me that HM did not offer it (they do). Others directed me to other departments and phone numbers, all of which turned out to be incorrect. I finally spoke with someone who directed me to Nuclear Medicine, the right place. I then sent my Doctor's order for this test, through MyChart. The order was rejected, even though my doctor is a well-recognized expert in the field of prostate cancer and is also a professor, author, and lecturer on the subject. It was rejected because they only accept orders from Texas doctors. Putting aside the legitimacy of this policy, I have since learned that HM had several options to honor its policy while also helping me. For example, they could have scheduled me for a brief consultation with one of their urologists. But they saw a non-Texas doctor on an order and simply hit "Reject." Employees don't have the training to suggest a workaround. They don't try to be helpful. Another excellent Houston clinic was able to provide this scan using the exact same order that HM claimed was "illegal" or "impossible" to accept. By refusing to help me with this order, HM chose administrative convenience over patient care. I eventually found other places in Houston that helped me without a lot of red-tape and where I could speak to real people. Doctors actually returned my calls. Wonderful, compassionate technicians and other staff listened to me patiently and tried hard to be helpful. I strongly recommend you stay away from HM. You can find much better options in the Houston area. read more

Both my husband and I have been admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital last year-at different times of course. Neither of us could find one flaw with our stay there. The nurses were attentive and personable and the doctor I had spent real time explaining everything I wanted to know including test results. The food was very good for hospital food and my private room was clean and comfortable. Unlike with other hospital stays I did not feel eager to be released, although yes, home is better than anywhere else to me. My husband was seen in the ER at Houston Methodist on Fannin yesterday, and we left feeling completely dismissed and deeply concerned about the quality of care he received. After eight days of unexplained high fevers, we came in hoping for answers and help. Instead, we encountered a number of issues--starting with a major patient safety concern. At one point, my husband was taken to a room because they said he was being admitted--only to later find out they had mistaken him for another patient. That is completely unacceptable and incredibly alarming. To make matters worse, the ER doctor, Dr. Benjamin Godfrey, was rude and dismissive when I began asking questions. I was simply trying to advocate for my husband and understand what was going on. He has been sick for over a week with no explanation, and we were told everything looked "normal." When I asked if he could be kept for observation, Dr. Godfrey cut me off mid-question and abruptly said "no," stating we didn't meet criteria, without offering any meaningful explanation. He was short and condescending, as if my questions were a challenge rather than a concerned wife trying to help. I also asked if more testing could be done since we still don't know what's causing the fever. Even he admitted he was concerned about the unknown origin, yet said additional tests weren't necessary. How does that make sense? We left with no answers, no treatment plan, and a complete loss of trust in the care we received. Between being confused with another patient and being treated like our concerns didn't matter, this visit was unacceptable. I had to call an ambulance for my mother on Tuesday march 31st at 4:30pm fire and ambulance came and picked mom up and transported er to Methodist Nassau Bay . Once in the emergency room . We had Dr wang to excess , moms oxygen was low, first thing she ask me is do you want to vent and i said no. She said she could die , I said yes but it would be natural. No machine , after 2 hours of oxygen was back up to her normal. We sat in a emergency room til 2:30 am and then moved to ICU . After all night we were in a rm #11. That morning we had Dr . Nina Zatikyan MD. She was rude and not compassionate at all . She told me I needed to get , power of attorney and will up there . She said your mom is in bad shape and didn't look good. This was our first meeting. Just crushed us but mom was alert and was better that day but was on high flow oxygen. As the day wore on Dr. Wang In ICU came in very polite and compassionate , we are doing everything and will be outside if you need anything . Then the heart doctor came in did every test , Dr. Ahmed Elsherbing. He told mom she had a strong heart. But kept monitor while we were there. The next day Dr . Nina Zatikyan came to the room and said you look better, total change from the first day. While she was in the room , I told her she took care of my mom in Nov. 2021 during covid and she said I don't believe so. She went back in her records the next day and said yes she did take care of mom during covid. This went on for 6 1/2 days in ICU. You have some amazing nurses in ICU Rachel U and Ashley N. These 2 nurses were so wonderful, we were lucky to have them for 2 days each .Made ICU enjoyable . The head Pulmonary Dr. Nina Zatikyan need to have compassion training , very cold , no respect for care of patients . if love one is in bad shape you should never tell them there dying, Should talk to a love one. I spent everyday and night with my mom in ICU. Just in case something happened . After ICU we were moved to a room on the 4th floor room 410 Sunday April 5th. After the move the next morning the doctors came in an said you were getting better, but you will be here a while . Dr Nina Zatikyan transferred her stuff to Dr. Jose Cuevas, nice gentleman was caring and compassionate. Easy to talk to and was there to help . We worked out a plan that day. So Tuesday came around and Dr Wang from ICU went on vacation. So we had Dr Donald Brown come in never met us before. I wasn't there, but he came in and told my mom that you aren't getting better. You need to think about hospice or alternative care . That just broke my mom. She called me at work , I came up there at 11 am and she was in the fetal position crying . So after first time seeing a patient for less than 5 minutes you destroyed her. Terrible bedside manor, she told him my son takes care of me and there is his number . But he never called . After therapy came in and she was able to walk . The next day Dr Brown came in same attitude , still no call. So that day we had nurse Jesus , wonderful at what he does , loves his job. So Friday comes around and I need to speak with Dr Brown, I got to my moms room at 8:30 am , and waited . Dr Brown came in an saw me . whole different attitude, but still talking down , not building up. I ask why they stopped PT , he said they said her oxygen dropped and he discontinued . I told him therapy said she did great and he said no. I said they were here and they said she did great. Then I ask when we could go home , he said home .I said yes , he said she can't go home . I said i everything setup , concentrator , tanks that will go to 15 liters incase of emergency . He was shocked that I knew what I was doing. He then said she could go home today. I said 5pm , he goes why . I said i needed to go back to work. He said we could go at 5 pm . Br brown isn't a compassionate person, I'm sure he does this more often. We were released and are home doing well. I also want to let you know that i was never given a survey for our stay. Plus also want to let you know that the social worker Alex called me the second day in the hospital. And I never heard from her again after calls to her and leaving messages . Plus I tried to contact Palliative care team member Sharice , calling and leaving messages. No return call either . So my whole experience at Methodist wasn't great. Your team members need work with more training for care of the patients. I've been in a lot of hospitals these last few years with my mom. But this was the worst experience , this hospital is close to our house but i think next time we will go to UTMB webster. Healthcare system here is poor, the Doctors like Dr. Nina Zatikyan pulmonary , Dr Wang Emergency , and Dr Donald Brown all need some training in compassion , respect for the patient and even the family members. This review is written from the visitor point of view; I was not a patient. Pros: This hospital has elegant decor, nice attending staff to help you navigate through the massive space, a well tended gift shop with lots of items, a full cafeteria with almost anything you might want to eat, a gorgeous doll house display, and even a pretty courtyard along side of a interior gathering area complete with a piano player. The entrance is on the monorail system with a stop right near the doors. All these things are nice, but wait, there's more. Cons: The location is very far from my home area of the Memorial District. The med center is right by Rice University, which is both a very uppity area but also a very transient area. Valet parking is almost always full leading you to wind your way through the 10 level also completely full parking garage. We parked on level 10, but due to where the elevator is located, we had to walk to level 9. The stairs we passed smelled of urine. When we exited the elevator, the smell of trash was overwhelming. When we crossed the small street to get to the entrance, the smokers outside were less than concerned about us inhaling their smoke. Once inside, the massive space is hard to navigate. I've heard multiple people rave about Methodist Hospitals and their level of care. Many people I know, prefer them over Memorial Hermann. My dad was in for back surgery. His room was originally the ICU wing, so it was quite large. His nurse was very nice and personable. I liked the presentation of the hospital, but I can't imagine going down there and having to fight traffic, plus dealing with the parking, if it was personally my choice. I didn't feel it was fair to give three stars since most of what I am reviewing is not based on a patient's point of view. Houston Methodist used to be a hospital system that cared, but like others in the healthcare industry they are only concerned with their profits. The staff lacks compassion and there have been several occasions where the room was overflowing with trash and there was blood on the floor, bed rails, and sheets. They will also release information about my dad to non-immediate family members and leave documentation in his room for anyone to see. As a former employee, I regret taking my family member here as his health has steadily declined since he was admitted. The staff rotates more than speed dating participants. Also, because they are a "teaching hospital" they like to use residents to treat patients, especially minorities. read more

Why does this hospital have such low reviews? I can only tell you that I know they will double bill and surprise bill you. Paid my copay but they sent me an additional bill for $45, saying insurance didn't cover that amount. I contacted the insurance company and they had no idea what they were talking about. Until they saw that an item coded for payment and allowed was processed but the same item was coded differently and not paid. Therefore, it seems as if I'm being double billed. This has happened so much until they've created over $1,000 in double billing fees. There really needs to be an investigation into their billing practices. read more

You never no where life is going to take you. I had a sudden illness and I went to the emergency room to inpatient at Methodist. Though it was a four-day stay it was pleasant. All hospital staff were pleasant, they ensured that I transition home. While I was at home I suddenly got worst, the returned to the hospital and they found additional concerns. I then stay in another section of the hospital. It was not very pleasant, but the service was impeccable. The food was a zero on this side and I lost 7 pounds. Looking back I decided to utilize most of the doctors I saw and I feel better than ever. I am happy that my medical needs are behind me and I think I might have to review hospitals while I am well because Methodist is okay, but I do have some concerns and skepticism about my care the last stay. read more

had my first ever surgery yesterday dr was great procedure and before went great but when I was woken up off anesthesia I was in a hallway across from nurses desk next to two older men, I'm a 24 year old girl they woke up screaming yelling scaring me to jump up from my bed I woke up calm one eye after the other. I've always used them because I had good insurance that paid for almost everything. I now have a Medicare policy that doesn't. I went in to get a MRI and I saw 6 different people (overhead) before I got my MRI. 3 different waiting rooms. Wow, no wonder healthcare costs are so high. I just went to a dietitian and had about a 45 min conference. They billed me $508. When I questioned the bill, they said that was normal. My insurance won't pay for it, so I just have to eat it, and learn, not to go there without questioning costs before! I'm sure I could have gone to an independent for a third of the cost. When you drive by the Clear Lake facility and admire the beautiful flowers, just know your paying for them (or your insurance company). read more

Initial check in to the ER had me second guessing my hospital choice but luckily the experience got better and continued to get better each step of the way. Once checked in everything seemed to be very organized and methodical. On the day my family was to return to Los Angeles after a vacation my husband became ill and required surgery to remove hematoma from his brain. While he was hospitalized at Methodist he also had a IVC filter inserted. The nursing staff in Nero ICU and on 18th floor of Walter Tower were excellent. The medical care was outstanding . There seemed to be fractured communication between the other disciplines. Although I mentioned several times we were planning to return home to Los Angeles no effort was mae to alter their routine so we could return home. Rather than giving him therapy daily he received it every other day. I did not talk with a Case Manager untill we were there for a week. in my opinion, had my husband been given PT daily he could have gone home rather than to a nursing home in TX. read more

It all depends on your individual medical situation as to you view on Houston Medical Hospital. HMU has been named one of the best hospitals for care in the United States and that in itself says a lot about the care you receive from services provided. HMU literally saved a family members life by not only catching a serious medical condition during a routine operation, but priority scheduling for the follow-up surgery due to the condition. Houston Methodist Hospital is one of the best in Texas and the U.S. and I as I stated earlier every individual medical situation and insurance is different so the views are might be based off of emotion versus facts. The hallways are a maze, but once you have your bearing you start to wonder around and see the art and places of reflection and solitude the hospital has to offer. read more

I went to the ER for an eye issue since Alkek Eye Center told me to come here to be seen but no one actually looked at my eye. I wrote this while I was waiting but I would up Just leaving at 4:30 PM (been there since before 8AM) and I don't feel I got the care I needed and in fact I left feeling worse and stressed. I'm not exactly sure who to advocate to, but I've been here since 8 AM and I'm not getting the care I need. I was poked six times to get an IV in, and I was told that the ultrasound equipment sucks and it's hard to see things. Then apparently two of the blood samples are bad so I had to give another one, I apologized that I did not have good veins (that ate tiny). I was told that it's not my fault... I just have bad genes. I feel triggered and felt overwhelmed. I now have migraine, probably from the stress and I asked for some medicine and fluids, and a banana bag with mag.They refused to give me a banana bag and then I saw she ordered a small bag and I'm not sure why. The doctor came and saw me for 30 seconds and the I got some or the stuff I asked for. The nurse was not sure why I was missing orders and she kept paging her. And she was surprised that she did not look at my eye. The nurse staff says that this isn't right and that's just how she is and they keep asking her and advocating for me, the doc jus doesn't help. And and I was waiting on medicine for 4 hours now like I literally am distraught; this is just really so so triggering. I'm cold and I just want to leave at this point if they won't help read more

He should be fired diagnosing me when I had a broken heel bone and had to have a plate and screws put in it and said that I was there pain seeking drug see for my fibromyalgia. Once again, another 1 star experience that should be zero. Here picking up a family member and Methodist's communication is awful. Wasted a lot of my time dude to their lack of basic fundamentals. I'd say do better but it won't happen. read more
