I have continued to try to speak with people at Texas Oncology. Once again my complaints and requests for a dialogue have fallen upon deaf ears. Whenever I push to speak with somebody, they always promise somebody will be back in touch and nobody ever does. It is incredibly frustrating, but it reminds me of how I was treated while under their 'care' (I am using that term loosely). But I guess there is no reason for them to contact me since there is no money in it for them. I was just another damn cancer patient with an insurance company you could bill for thousands of dollars. read more

I booked this so that I could get a PET scan. Instead of arranging my PET scan they asked me all the other health questions and then said the closest I could get it was El Paso. 6 months later I am still getting bills from them for a scan I was never able to take and for a consult that was a complete waste of my time and $. Maybe they are good at their actual job, I will never know because I will never return. I am surprised they are still in business based on how bad their customer service is - The positive, they were very nice (polite). read more

On March 11th, I was with my father waiting to schedule his appointment in the lobby. We were asked to sit and wait for the next available representative. While waiting two staff members walked through, one was carrying a whataburger cup with white hair, and the other was blonde, they paused and looked at the screen on the wall saying; "I hate this system it looks like a bunch of herded cattle". The lobby was full of family and patients, however I'm extremely disgusted that an employee would state this. I've been coming here regularly for the past 9 months and never seen this woman before, but she did have a badge on. Extremely disheartening to speak out-loud and refer to patients as cattle. My mother had an appointment with Dr. Shaw on 7/6/21. She was extremely impressed by this doctor and his staff. They went out of their wy from start to finish. I had called to set the appointment for my mother. They explained the process and how they would have to get medical records. It took less than 24 hours for them to get everything they needed and establish the first visit with my mom. The staff was very personable looking to connect and get to know more about my mother. They went out of their way in my moms opinion. When she met the doctor she described him as the kindest, most genuine and caring doctor she had ever met. She liked her sat in close proximity to her and that he looked in in the eyes as he spoke to her. He made sure all of her questions were answered and that she understood the next steps. My mother left re-assured and excited about her new doctor. My mother would pass away the following day. I made it a point to call the office and express the impression they left on all of us and my mother. I thank them for their kindness and for going out of their way for my mom! I was perplexed by many of the negative reviews, especially the ones about the staff. I have been coming here since 2015 when I met with Dr. Hellerstedt for my breast cancer diagnosis. Being told you have cancer is scary as hell, but I was always met with compassion and kindness from every member of the staff at this location. It's no secret Dr. Hellerstedt is a rockstar, and I'm back with her and her team after a stage four melanoma diagnosis. She and her nurse practitioners are always so willing to listen to me, answer my questions, and give me clear reasons and thoughts about what we are doing and why we are doing it. It is so completely obvious that Dr. Hellerstedt cares a great deal about her patients, and it shows in every aspect of her approach. I consider myself incredibly grateful to have her on my team. I have always received prompt service/answers from them; I use the portal for questions, and if they are thought to need immediate attention, I get a call very soon after submitting them. I consider the entire staff exceptional, from the front desk greeters, to the schedulers to the lab folks, and especially the nurses in the infusion rooms. Not only are those nurses handling infusions at the top of their game, their personalities just make a crappy situation that much better. I already have my favorites, and they go out of their way to recognize you and check in on you, even if you are not their patient at the time. Not to mention most of them are just funny as hell and jive with my warped sense of humor. read more

So I'm trying to find and primary and follow up on a recent set back I've had in February. It's been a challenge just trying to get any answers. The primary I was considering is just concerned about my flu shot and vaccines. While the specialist I've seen never follows up and it took over 3 weeks to get my CT test results. The final straw was this past Friday. My specialist who orders more blood work, when I got there it was like 20 vials. It was a very bad experience and I won't be going back. It gets better, just received a call today and they said they messed up and didn't have my blood picked up and can I come back in to have my blood drawn again. Are you Fucn kidding me??? I will never go back to this place again. And when they try to call me tomorrow and ask me to come back I'm gonna give it to who ever calls me. Stay away from this place. read more

Their front office staff is incredibly self absorbed, callous, and utterly unprofessional. "That's not my job" types Michelle in particular kept complaining about how many patients she had to call on two separate calls because--of course--she didn't send my document request to the right person first time around. My first appointment was supposed to be this Friday. I booked it 4 months ago--that's how long the wait is for a new patient And because of this Freeze (which we've all known about for awhile now), I was contacted by Michelle to reschedule another month out 2 days before my appointment because they're closing (for a 4 day weekend) I asked for a document to provide my insurance because my medical leave was extended specifically for this appointment. Then Michelle said they would notate that I declined a telehealth visit? Sure. Whatever. Why would I want my first visit about possible breast cancer to be through Telehealth? Hope these delays aren't the death of me. read more

Great doctors, fantastic PAs--*terrible* communication between home office and specific (in this case, RR) offices. I was in the car for a 9:30 appointment, which had been verified by text and email, and got a text and email at 9:09 that said I missed my appointment. I had to call work for time off, etc., and this is FAR from the first time this has happened since the main number no longer sends you to the specific office itself. So really double-check everything, is what I am saying, I suppose. read more

Saw Dr Shaw for anemia after an exhaustive series of tests at ADC. Couldn't find a reason for the blood loss. Dr. Shaw is one of the most caring and patient doctors I have ever met. He sat very close to me and took my hand and said, "tell me all about your ordeal with this anemia." He asked very probing and thorough questions and then explained how many kinds of anemia there is. Then he ordered a full blood panel along with some specified tests. His office was very good about letting me know what was going on, and the entire staff is fun and caring! Drs here seem very good. I came in with my 90 year old father and mother who has dementia for his second cancer treatment. They seem to not be very good with elderly , at least this age...first treatment dosage vlew out his vein (which can happen, but I suspect happens more with elderly patients), the tape tore off his skin when they removed it. (Didn't use tape focused on elderly skin.) Then today they enforce only 1 guest- of course there isn't room at the treatment area, but last week, I could stay with my mom in the waiting area in the back, checking on both of them since my dad cannot hear well, falls easily. Again, they seem like a good facility, but appears they don't really have good experience handling the very elderly . read more

They completely effed up my first appointment. told me to be there with papers filled out 15 mins before my noon appt. I was. first issue was that they had me meet with some financial counselor, to whom I explained my insurance to and how out of pocket max works. she then asked me to fill out what looked like a credit app. I told her I was done talking to her since I already knew everything she was fumbling to tell me. I go back to the waiting room. then I'm called up to be told that my appt with the dr is at 1. it's now 12:07. I showed her my phone text saying 12:00. she said, that was for the financial counselor. and the rest of the hour was for people who don't do as requested and fill out paperwork before the appt. they don't give a flip about your time. I was told that it was more important to make sure the drs schedule is on track, to which I replied, "so to h*ll with everyone else's time huh?" I told them if they can't handle an appt, I didn't trust them further. I keep hoping they will call to see why I left. but thats just me hoping to yell more. Ridiculous, and I still need a hematologist. read more

If I could give them 0 start, I would have done it. Please do not go to Texas oncology they keep trying on patient as if they are guinea pig they do not know what they are doing, please do not expect them to refer you to a better hospital with a better technology. If you are a patient there, please get a second opinion as soon as possible. Do not trust them at all with your love one because they do not care at all. They are only there for a paycheck and just go by the book, no compassion at all. They act as if they care for patient. I lost my husband recently and one nurse at radiation had the gut to call me to say she was sorry. I missed the call I would have never listen to her lies. She disrespected my husband because of an oxygen tank when he was seriously sick and trying to breath. Talk to him about hospice when I left him for few minutes, which made him sad and down for few days before he told me what happened. A hospice conversation should not come from his nurse but from his Dr. Please get a second opinion at a better place with better technology. read more

Please think twice before signing up for any type of chemotherapy treatment at Texas Oncology Round Rock. Their standard of care is driven purely by profit. The infusion room has 54 chairs and only 2 restrooms for use by their patients! The infusion chairs are only spaced a couple feet apart and that leaves a room full of immunosuppressed patients sitting elbow to elbow. The hypocrisy of their oncologists preaching that you shouldn't socialize or eat out during treatment due to susceptibility of infection, yet they have patients lined up row after row next to each other with no curtain of protection or privacy. Also, HIPPA does NOT exist in their infusion room as it offers zero privacy for conversations between the nursing staff and patients. Make no mistake, there is nothing patient centric about Round Rock's infusion room or practice. Their oncologists see 40 patients/doctor/day which only contributes to the minimal standard of care that they offer. It is blatantly obvious that they have no regard for the dignity, privacy or needs of their patients outside of the basic care. read more

Dr. Dang is the absolute best. As a pallative care doctor he will find a way to alleviate your aches and he truly listens. He always has the greatest attitude and asks about your life as a whole and not just your cancer treatment. He recognizes that every cancer journey is different and the approach for care is unique to everyone. He partners with your oncologist and creates a plan. I have been a patient of this business for four years now. In the beginning in addition to my insurance they agreed i would pay a monthly installment for my part of the bills. Thus money was withdrawn monthly from my account. Few days ago I was called to the office of the person they called "benefits Rep" , she threatened to send my account to collection if i did not pay up the money I owed ( after four years my bills came up to 10k) despite money withdrawn monthly and I was led to believe that I was in good terms with paying my bills. They did not send out notices/letters, etc to let me know they wanted more money from me. Suddenly I was faced with paying 10k or dealing with collection. Being in my medical condition right now (advantaged stage of breast cancer) this creates undue mental stress and surely would not help improve my survival expectancy despite hundred of thousand of dollars paid out from my insurance in addition to my parts of the bills. There were no policies in place regarding bills payments from patients, it was run by the wimp of the person they called Benefits Rep. read more

After been admitted to the hospital I seen her smiling face early in the morning by my bedside, giving me the most sincere hug. She explained everything clearly without rushing. This office is great!! The staff is wonderful! They are located in front of the hospital and have parking directly in front of their building. You can get bloodwork/labs, radiological scans and chemo, not just office visits. They also have a pharmacy in this location, which is really nice. I highly recommend this location. read more

I have been receiving care and support from the cancer center of Texas Oncology in Round Rock for over the past fifteen years!!! The radiologist were always very attentive to me throughout the overall fifty-two rounds of radiation that I received after my prostrate cancer was surgically removed in July of 2007!!! Receiving four months of chemotherapy was in a relaxing environment due to the the wonderful care of their medical staff during the chemotherapy procedure!!! Over the upcoming years to come, I always received exceptional care and support from the receptionist at the front desk to the overall knowledgeable solutions of my oncologist, Dr. Darren Kocs MD, to the lab technicians, to the receptionist that would make my appointments for the next three months visits!!! My Patients Benifits representative, Stacy Ryza, would always sent to me, after the Lupron injection, the ledger that I needed to sent to my cancer insurance agent!!! Stacy would always help me in dealing with any concerns that I requested in dealing with my financial concerns solutions!!! My overall care and support from the entire staff at the Texas Oncology was an absolutely wonderful experience due to their exceptional care and support to me over the past fifteen years!!! I don't reccomend them at all. They mixed my information with another patient's information and they do not follow up with their clients. Checking in is like going to the DMV, there are lines out the door and the front desk staff seem miserable. I had blood screens done and had to hunt down answers for two months. NIHAR K. PATEL, M.D. after our first visit left my husband and I feeling like he was 100% focused on our teenager, her medical history, and understanding our journey into her health issues. The first question he asked her was "so tell me what your understanding is as to why you are here today?" He has a calming presence and after listening to her/our replies he then began to fill in our gaps of knowledge with blood work and what he was looking for and why. He's most likely had to explain the ABC's of blood results thousands of times in his career however his dialog wasn't rehearsed or rote. He then explained the next test he ordered, why he was ordering it, and what he was looking for in regards to this test. My sense is that Dr Patel understands the fears one has when they feel like they are facing something potentially very serious. I rarely write reviews but thankful to have an immediate connection to an obviously extremely intelligent man with the added bonus of a high emotional IQ. Most importantly our daughter gave him her seal of approval! Do not hesitate to make an appt with Dr Patel. read more

You litterally can never get anyone on the phone. There is one operator so the phone just rings and rings until the answer. Don't dare ask for a scheduler you will more than likely have to leave a message that wont be returned until maybe the next day. It's taken up to 72 hours for me before. I've called today 7 times to speak to a scheduler and got the voicemail every single time. I asked the operator to get me to a live person please she said sure this person is at the desk they should answer. Well 7 rings later i am again leaving a voicemail. It's really ashamed because the doctors are great but your first point of contact (scheduling) makes your business. read more

I wrote a review a while back on Texas Oncology that was flattering. I still think Dr. Beth Hellerstedt is the best of the best as far as oncologists in the Austin/Round Rock area. She was my mother's doctor for many years, and, in my opinion, helped my mom live longer, despite the diagnosis she was given, which was metastatic breast cancer. We lost my mother this past April. I always wanted to thank Texas Oncology for helping us through this most difficult time. Of course, I hope I never step foot in that place as long as I live, but if I must, I hope Dr. H will still be there. Thank you, Texas Oncology! read more

My husband died 6 months ago at the age of 56 from gastric cancer after treatment here. He had never been sick a day in his life .It started at 11mm per egd, laparoscopy and pet scan . Treating doctor was Helerstedt. On the first visit she explained why" she was the most important person in the situation". First red flag! Chemo began per her order , and was completed . Surgery found it had advanced and his entire stomach had to be removed . It was explained she "chose" to treat him with basic chemo . I am not going to give bad comments just facts . I know that cancer is difficult to treat. But we would have appreciated a clearer picture during his treatment so we could have searched for a second option . MDA basically told us there was nothing they could do after the surgery . I would urge anyone with this type cancer , any cancer to seek a second opinion. The care was inconsistent and we were seen by a different nurse practitioner almost every visit . Texas oncology please look at your processes before you take on the task of attempting to save someone's life . It's not all about the money you make on the chemo!!Our 5 children and 13 grandchildren would also appreciate it . read more

I would give this a one except that I think I have a good doctor (Hellerstedt) but agree the staff mostly suck. I even had one nurse practitioner overdose me on Decadron. Some staff ok but the girl with the long blond hair sucks badly in terms of service and has some sort of need to be in control so you better make sure she knows and checks you in or you'll be sitting a while. I got off to an ok start but after the Decadron incident left me in the ER in a psychotic state, well let's just say I didn't get the after support I think I deserved. What I got was bottles of Valium and a good bye and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Some infusion nurses are at least civil, give you their name, explain things (like Connie), others are short (as in brusque), rough and really don't care. In the beginning they're all pink bows and "sure we'll work with your naturepath" and then they don't. I've had 6 chemo treatments of 12 and I think I've just about talked myself into going elsewhere. I'll probably have to pay to move things over but I've about had it with this place. The "social worker" (Adrien) - please - whatever she's paid it's too much. She only knows how to hand out pieces of paper, she isn't really there to care. You better have someone checking in on you often. People like me with no kids or family around are up shit creek. There's no follow up on any problems you have. You better have an advocate too because the nurse practitioners are able to do anything they like even if it isn't what you and the doctor agreed to. There's gotta be better treatment out there. read more
