STOP WITH THE BARRAGE OF SURVEYS the office bombards with texts and emails EVERY. SINGLE. DAY until I respond. Many of the questions are intrusive like do I feel like I can't go on, do I feel like killing myself. Seriously? None of their business. I finally filled it out because I was sick of the barrage. I answered everything NA, and I urge you to do the same. The doctor is good, but the practice is horrible. And they also use an out of network PA in surgery and then tell you to ignore the bills! I've been going to TOA since the mid 90s for tennis injuries - knee pain (Dr. Montgomery) and shoulder (Dr. Thornton). A new knee issue has been developing and I surprised, when I called to make an appointment, that Dr. Montgomery (a Dallas legend) had retired. I asked for Dr. Thornton as he is also a knee guy as well as a shoulder doc. Everything from ease of appointment to the short wait after filling in forms to his visit was top notch. In all my experience there I've never had the sense they overbook as they're usually seeing you very close to appt time and the docs spend a reasonable amount of time with you. I had previously went to Sports Medicine near Baylor for knee pain and was dissatisfied with the experience. I'm in my mid-50's, eat wisely and exercise regularly so I consider myself to be in pretty good health. I knew going in that the doctor would bring up the arthritis in my knee and I wanted to know what else was causing pain. After the exam I was surprised that that one of the first suggestions was surgery and knee replacement. 20 years maybe! But other options were presented - a Cortisone shot and physical therapy, for which I opted. Maybe I would have gone back for the follow up but I felt the doctor was a bit dismissive with PT recommendations and other ways to alleviate/manage the pain. Oh, when I asked for the x-ray to be sent via email so I could forward to my PCP, they said I had to come get the CD. I can't even get into the debacle of that nonsense. I started PT which helped some, but my knee was still bothering me. Truth be old, I decided to go to TOA mostly for location (close to home) and I did read good reviews. I met with Dr. Scott Paschal and after listening about my last experience, he recommended an MRI which was conveniently on the same floor as his office. When I met with him a week later he said I had a meniscus tear. Although I was disappointed to hear this news, at least the mystery of my knee pain was solved! So this review is lengthier than my others but I feel they are important. Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure but it was a big deal to me. I wanted to make sure I fully understood the procedure before, during and after. TOA was wonderful in guiding me the weeks leading up to my surgery and I was not worried at all. The process, attention and care that Dr. Paschal and his team provided was outstanding. I highly recommend them! read more

I trusted Dr Racanelli to an ACL reconstruction that year and despite a few orthoscopic procedures after that, my knee is now as good as new. Great experience, as much as it can be when a kid breaks a bone. We were able to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, and the actual appointment was a breeze. Free parking (my pet peeve is paying for parking for medical appointments), easy to find office, friendly and professional staff throughout the office, and efficient yet thorough service. My son appreciated the gentleness of the xray tech who did his scans (he said the urgent care tech was rough and not careful with his broken wrist). My entire process with regard to my Manipulation Under Anesthesia was smooth even though I requested it in the middle of the holidays. Dr. Papaliodis - I have complete confidence in his knowledge and skillfulness and I trust him. The office staff was kind and efficient. Some physicians perform a nerve block, but even though I was hesitant not to get the block Dr. P was correct, that is counter productive and I trusted his knowledge and he was absolutely correct. It was tough after the MUA but the next day I was so much better. The nurses at Harris Alliance Surgery Center Pre-op and Recovery Marissa and Anna were caring and did everything they could to ensure I was comfortable. Dr. Kruse, Cari and everyone on his staff have always been professional, kind and caring everytime I have needed to see Dr. Kruse. I went to him about 2 years ago for a torn bicep and shoulder damage. He and his team worked with me to get me back to my quality of life. Now I am back again for the right shoulder and we are starting protocol for this issue. He is great to start with the less invasive procedures first and if they are exhausted and no relief then he will bring me in for surgery. My left shoulder is stronger than it was before, so I know I am in the best hands! Great staff! I have used their therapy service's several times for multiple problems. The physical therapists are very knowledgeable and helpful. My latest needs for building strength and flexibility in my right shoulder because of a tear was my best and most helpful experience. I worked with Occupational Therapist Danette Stewart. What a pro! She knows her stuff and really zeroed in on all my issues, explained why they were causing me such pain and then worked with me to really improve my flexibility, pain and everyday ability to use my neck, right shoulder and not suffer weakness and pain. Dr spent less than 5 mins with me after keeping me waiting for 50 mins. He didn't spend any time getting to know me but put in his notes that I need counseling for my BMI. Yes I am overweight but that isn't my whole story. I run half marathons, workout or run 5-6 times a week, have a very healthy heart, and no cholesterol or blood pressure issues. Due to people like him I have a very slow metabolism from not eating to be an ideal weight. read more

I first was referred to Dr Michael Champine by my pain mgmt Dr after 2 orthopedics said they could do nothing arthroscopic wise and I was too young for a hip replacement. As per their requirements, I sent over my previous hip surgery MRIs, XRAYS, and surgical reports. I included a letter explaining my battle and my pain experience. They called me right away. I took in my completely new patient paperwork prior to the appointment (It was online) so the time in the waiting room was quick. It took a little time once we got back but if you'll just look around, you'll see what a busy office it is. Didn't bother me. He did a physical examine confirming the previous Drs conclusions. He said I'm definitely a candidate but the decision was up to me. I opted to and just had the sugery a week ago. Because I have lupus and other autoimmune issues, I'm not out of the hospital yet. He and his team have been awesome. They treat me, the patient, and are doing everything they can to help me through the surgery and unexpected flair. I really think others would have passed me on to a rheumatologist but that would have left me high and dry on the hip recovery and inpatient rehabilitation services I need. That's next. But they have been great. I'm completely happy with their care, skill set and bedside manner. One note, Dr Champine has a dry sense of humor which I completely appreciate. He has an awesome bedside manner for my personality. He's not a hand holder. I have that and would rather have sometime to tell me what it is, what I need, how to get there and what to expect. The nurses are for hand holding. His medical assistant, Darren, is awesome too. He's incredibly knowledgeable, is attentive and while he shoots completely straight from the hip, he's got more of the warm fuzzy personality. They are an excellent team. As soon as i realized there was something terribly wrong with my neck, I called for an appointment and was able to be seen within 2 days. I was greeted with very friendly and compassionate staff. X-rays were done on-site which saved a lot of time and hassle. MRI and CAT scan were ordered and I was promptly able to schedule that appointment as well as a follow up with TOA. read more

I had my first visit in May for an ongoing issue that was causing me a lot of pain. I was able to get an appointment quickly with Dr. Early. Long story short- I ended up having to have surgery. I am so happy and pleased with everyone I have come into contact with. Everyone has been so helpful, caring and actually listens to my concerns. I have a lot of questions and I have never felt like a burden asking them. All the healthcare workers here are phenomenal. I moved to Dallas in April and I am so happy I waited to see anyone until I got here. Also I am 6 weeks post op and the scar from surgery is almost gone. I would go here again and again if I had anything else happen (hopefully I don't though). I will say I did get overcharged for one thing but it was resolved extremely quickly and was not a pain to fix. If I could give them more stars, I would! read more

So in the theme of "Continually Broken Kate", my bad knee started acting up on 11/18 after driving home 2 hours from East Texas. I messed my knee up 11 years ago (I fell over and broke the kneecap and other nasty things...), and have had on and off problems with it since then. However, the pain I felt on Sunday was so intense and lasted for so long that I actually went to the ER, which is very unusual for me. Presby Plano gave me a referral, so I called the office first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, that doctor only deals with traumatic injuries... so if my bone had been sticking out of my leg or broken, I could've gone to him. His office was kind enough to refer me to Texas Orthopaedic Associates. I called them on Monday morning and had an appointment for Tuesday morning, the week of Thanksgiving. It's a holiday miracle. Now, I originally called the Plano office, but they couldn't get me in very quickly. The woman on the phone understood my hurry in wanting to get in ASAP and said that if I could go to the Dallas office (at Presby Dallas), then I could see Dr Racanelli the next morning at 930am. Done deal! She was able to schedule my appointment with Dr R from the Plano office, so if you accidentally call the wrong office, they can likely get you scheduled where you need to be. One of my coworkers also suggested an orthopod for me to call (the guy her husband and son used for back and knee problems), and it turns out that he ALSO is with Texas Orthopaedic Associates. Small world of good doctors. The boyfriend and I got to the office early to fill out the paperwork. The paperwork IS available on the website if you want to print it out and fill it out at home, but my printer is less than reliable. We got called back earlier than our scheduled appointment time and didn't have to wait too long. Everyone we saw or dealt with at the practice was great. Nurse came in and got my symptoms again (pain, no walky, pain, and more pain) and gave me a pair of neato disposable shorts to put on under my skirt. Then they came and got me for x-rays. I decided to hobble rather than crutch over there because it was close. The tech leading me to the x-ray room told me to take my time and not rush. He was very patient with my hobbling! X-Rays were quick and Dr Racanelli was in the room in fairly short order. His first words were, "Crutches? THAT'S never a good sign!" I really really like him. He was very frank with me about what was going on with my knee and what the options were. I really appreciate that about my doctors: if you're not frank with me and you don't give me pros/cons, I probably won't be back. I went with what he suggested (tough it out until the errant piece of cartilage works its way out), but knew that getting my knee scoped was an option if the pain got too bad. As I'm perennially broken, I am positive I will need an orthopedist again in the future and fully intend on coming to see Dr Racanelli. My coworker also had great things to say about Dr Walter. read more
