Disappointing Experience at Texas Pain Institute My experience at Texas Pain Institute was extremely disappointing and frustrating. One of the leads, Miss Angela, was speaking to an elderly patient in a way that came across as assertive, demanding, and lacking basic compassion. For a medical facility--especially one dealing with pain management--this kind of interaction was uncomfortable to witness and completely unacceptable. The new patient paperwork was excessively long, and despite doing my best to complete it, I was told that if it wasn't finished in time, they would not reschedule me for the next day. Instead, the next available appointment was almost a month out, which is unreasonable for patients seeking timely care and already dealing with pain. The only positive experience I had with this business was a representative named Destiny. She truly stood out. Destiny went above and beyond to try to help me get rescheduled, showed genuine care, and had an amazing personality. She did everything in her power to assist me, and I absolutely appreciated her willingness to help when others clearly did not. Unfortunately, aside from Destiny's efforts, this experience left me feeling unvalued and discouraged. I expected professionalism, understanding, and empathy--especially toward elderly and new patients--but that expectation was not met. read more

They have been treating me for years; Dr Bartis is the best in my book. I have cervical and lumbar issues, her and her staff have listened to and addressed my problems with my care at the forefront. from injections to referring me for surgery and post op care they have all been there for me! I was on Hevey doses of opioid pain killers, and have helped me reduce the amount of pain medications, I highly recommend this office! read more

This has happened twice & both times I rescheduled due to unexpected illness. I was timely in calling in & whoever handles that is obviously incompetent. I was referred by my GP doctor to take over with the pain care I was getting. In the 5 years I was there I had about 4 different doctors and as many if not more PA's. I went and had all the imaging they wanted, but as far as getting a hands on exam of where the pain was, took me asking on several occasions. I did injections several times ,those injections were steroid base and I'm a diabetic. The first doctor I had Dr.Dyer was a good doctor. Most the time it was PA's running me through the monthly perscription policy program. 12 visits a year and it seemed there was never the same staff at the desk and helping the doctors and their PA's. The facility was not very clean. The waiting rooms were thread bare .sometimes they smelled soiled "urine, fecal". Saying something to the staff got you a look like ,are you serious, but nothing more. To make a very long story short it was not a very pleasant place to go to. There wasn't the first piece of physical thearpy equipment or mention of said pain care. So as they say the straw that broke the camels back was getting the last doctor I had while under there care . Dr Bartis. I've had a lot of doctors but to be honest this was one of the most unprofessional condescending doctors I've ever had. There were actually 2 or 3 visits with her and on our last visit she told me if I didn't like her decisions go elsewhere. From the beginning of her becoming in charge I was bombarded by accusations of,are you taking all your meds ? Yes most definitely, the only thing that could possibly be the case was being on dialysis. So this was my reason and consulting with my nephrologist who agreed is what I stuck with. I wasn't going to over dose to meet urine test numbers. I kept being accused of not making the right residual numbers in my urine tests so Dr. Bartis just cut my perscription by 15 tablets per month. No discussion other than what I perceived as a attempt to get me to confront her thus giving her a reason to write down on her chart "out of control" cutting my meds even more if not releasing me. So I took her advice and found another place to get my pain issues taken care of. They have a great staff that has years of service with the company, and a wonderful rehab area with consultants for physical therapy. I was very satisfied before with this company when I was only seeing Krista but after they began to switch nurse practitioners ever visit so I had to explain everything all the time which was a head ache I was already in pain and frustrated then having to deal with that made it worse also every nurse practitioner I had would try to switch my medications every time. read more

I was referred here because I had a shoulder surgery and I refused opioids preop, intraop, post op, and at home since there is an opioid crisis and for good reason. Most docs don't utilize or know much about non opioid therapy. I am not against controlled medication use, but no CII drugs like opioids, period (the lower the number, the higher the addiction rate). I get to Dr. Mitchell's office and I agree to non narcotic gambit which was 5 meds and a voltaran gel with my surgical doc which makes 6 non controlled meds. And I was suffering some, but I sucked it up. My surgeon gave me something C-IV to help me sleep during the night time/pain, and some days I didn't take it at all. It was only a 7 day supply. I used it less than what was directed and slowly went up in frequency but below what was ordered. This was before I started physical therapy 2 weeks. I couldn't go in there without a the surgeons med bc when I went in there without that Med C-IV, I was tapping out using dr Mitchell's meds he ordered for me (was kind of helpful until PT). I call doc Mitchell a week ago after talking to my surgeon because he wants me out of my sling completely and moving my arm around now and doing home PT 2 times a day., so the pain is way up now. I call Dr Mitchell 4 times starting 6 days ago, and not one call back until I call my surgeon letting him know what is going on. My surgeons office had to get in touch with him in order to get Dr Mitchell's office to call me back, and instead of calling me in something and talking to my surgeon. This guy doesn't call my surgeon, nor does he call me back. I have to come in again to see him in 2 days. This is a complete reflection on his character completely. Just one day, I wish he was in my shoes. Where I'm at right now. Go elsewhere. I should have heeded to the advice of others when looking at the ratings. I thought that I was different for not wanting opioids, but I had to be a fool to come here and learn from personal experience. It's your choice whether you want to be wise and learn from my mistake or just be a normal person and learn personally what I'm telling you. Also, I had no idea that Not even my surgeon can call in a Med while seeing this pain doc. DONT DO IT! read more

Awful. You cannot get through on the phone to make appointment, reschedule, etc. Medications not called in on time - and you certainly can't get anyone to answer the phone to resolve. They've overcharged me and no one in billing will answer the phone - but they are quick to send out collection notices. I have to drive to the office to reschedule appointments - it's just ridiculous - even for a doctors office. This place is scammy. read more

I was referred to dr Mitchel in Fort Worth after continued pain from a com pressure fracture and surgery. Dr Mitchel is probably pretty good at pain management however, after getting one cortizone injection in my spine in the office without anesthesia that was extremely painful, I elected to have anesthesia for the next 2. This is where the problems started. First let me say, I've had many spine injections because of chronic spine issues over 10 to 15 years, 2 surgeries and multiple "procedures" RFA, Debridements, injections, etc. the surgeries of course always done in a hospital setting.. the procedures always done in an outpatient facility under sterile conditions. Always after seeing both the Dr and the anesthesiologist in pre-op. This has always been especially strict since Covid. This, unfortunately, has not been my experience with Dr Mitchel's office. There Covid protocols are lax at best with many patients entering the practice with no masks also seats are not spaced out. Dr Mitchel does his injections with anesthesia one day a week and the office, yes the OFFICE, is a zoo. In a waiting room that during a Covid crises should only have maybe 10 people in it there were at least 20, many entering without masks then taking 5 to 10 minutes to accomplish the difficult task of getting and putting on the mask. This last visit the office was transferring to a digital system, but instead of making it possible to do this at home prior to the appointment you had to sit in that crowded waiting room and do it on a tablet which by the way, many older people didn't know how to use. I'm older, 75, but I figured it out. Because these injections are done in clinic, there is supposedly a surgery suite, loosely identified as such, it became a cattle call. You have to have a ride home, understandably, the first injection my husband stepped inside and signed a paper saying he would stay on site. The second one they told him he had to come inside and wait with me, with all those people and no place to sit. I told him to wait outside, we were parked right by the door. when they called me back they didn't need him at all, they had ME sign his part of paperwork, is that even legal????? ok here comes the shock, in back there are 2 chairs where they sit you down and take your vitals, my blood pressure was high both times, they don't care after vitals they do an iv, I'm hard to get but no problem. This last one, it was a different apparatus for the girl/nurse?? There was no cap so she simply put the loose end into the package she took the alcohol swab out of. When I got back to procedure room I heard the anesthesiologist saying "completely inappropriate". You do not change out of your cloths and put on hospital gown. You simply climb onto the table, they do start oxygen and blood pressure, but then they inject the drug that puts you under. You never see the Dr or speak to anyone. The minute you wake up they give you something to drink, put you in a wheel chair and wheel you out to the car. I signed a discharge instructions page but was not given a copy. This is a money making venture!!!!!!!! I'm sure they charge the same amount as the surgery centers charge. I will be the first to tell you there should be some middle ground between at least 3 hours at a surgery center and maybe 30 minutes at Dr Mitchel's clinic. Even with the inconvenience of the time taken at a surgery center, I felt safer and felt like my dr gave a dam. To Dr Mitchel, I was a back to jab a needle into. I've always had to sign a form stating where and what kind of injections the dr was doing, in this case because I never saw him I don't even know if the Dr did the injections or if a PA did them. BOTTOM LINE: I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO TEXAS PAIN INSTITUTE; FORT WORTH. read more

I booked an afternoon appointment with this location. I'm a teacher and I work until 4:30 on weekdays, meaning I had to take time off work for my appointment. In the meantime, I received a call and voicemail from the clinic stating this: "The doctor is actually having some changes to the schedule so we were actually needing to reschedule your appointment. If you wouldn't mind giving us a call back at 817- ***-**** so we can reschedule that appointment." I did not have a chance to call back during open hours for a couple of days, but because they told me the appointment had to be changed, I canceled my time off and rearranged my day. When I called back to discuss rescheduling, I was informed that my appointment did not need to be changed, but that the clinic just wanted to see if I could come in earlier that same day. So...they left a voicemail telling me I had to reschedule my appointment, then told me I didn't have to change it at all. I'm not interested in going to a clinic that handles appointments this way. read more

I was so disappointed after I left this office. I had filled out the form for my records to be sent to another Doctor. After 2 weeks of not sending them I had to constantly call them and wait on hold for over 30 minutes every call to get any response. I used to work for a doctor/surgeon and you did not let the phones go unanswered for any reason and if you put someone on hold you checked back at least every 2/3 minutes to let them know you were still working on their problem. No matter how "busy" you are you ALWAYS answer the phone! A professional office would not let someone wait on hold for 30 plus minutes! They are delaying my surgery to fix my problem! However, I want to thank Dr Avarado for the awesome treatment I received through Texas Pain Mgnt. 2 years ago I injured my shoulder, which became frozen. After 1 injection, I am now PAIN FREE. CLEARLY, I never realized how rested I could feel after a good night's sleep. The Denton office personnel is patient and helpful when dealing with "seniors"! I'm searching for a new doctor to perform my pain injections and even though I checked the yelp reviews before calling their office I thought I'd go ahead and give him a chance because all the reviews seem to be about the staff and not the doctor. Clearly the staff has not improved. My first phone call they asked me to hold and disconnected me. Phone calls to 2-5 they asked me to hold and transferred me to a voicemail box that was full even though I kept telling them they were transferring me to a full mailbox. The six time I called they evidently recognize the number and didn't even say hello just said "hold "and then sent me to a voicemail box that actually had room to leave a message. I have no idea who's voicemail box it was and I haven't received a call back. Clearly this office does not want new patients. I will be calling the next one on my list. read more

The drs and PA's are attentive to my regular needs. This office does use e scripts, so this may or may not be convenient for you. I also find that when I am injured they are hesitant to prescribe the medications I feel are appropriate for my condition. However, my long term daily pain is managed exceptionally well by this office. They also do a good job of troubleshooting problems that come up in my case. Generally speaking I would recommend this office highly especially for an injury or short term pain problem. I hope this was helpful to you! read more

Dr. Mitchell has been very caring, knowledgeable & on time for appointments. But the office staff is one of the most inefficient that I've ever encountered. No one will answer the phones. After being on hold for about 20 minutes, a recording said to press 1 to leave a message & that never worked. Also, having had an appointment that was 4 weeks away they waited until the day before (twice!!) to get approval from my insurance, insurance turned it down, we had to cancel & start all over again!! It's a shame, because Dr. Mitchell seems to be a good doctor but I'm going to have to go elsewhere for treatments. When you are in pain these sort of things are intolerable!! Texas Pain Institute has a very poor office staff.My primary care doctor sent authroised referal to them on 06/28/2018.First they never called to set appoinment.I called on 07/03/2018 the lady gave appointment on 07/25/2018 also see did not see referal.I called 8 a.m. on 07/05/2018 the lady I i talked to found refera and added it to my chart sheset appointment for 9 a.m. on 07/09/2018.about one hour later I received call from back office that I did not have a referal I told him the previous lady found it he finally found it.Dr. Mitchell and nurses are very good and careing people.J.r.n. read more

This place is nothing but a bunch of incompetent people all the way around the staff is extremely rude and they can't get the appointment time correctly oh and it's absolutely mot their fault or the insurance to sign off on A procedure he has been getting for 3 1/2 years previous staff had no issues it is always something ever since the staff changed early last year .. my husband has been going there 3 1/2 years never got an appointment date or time wrong The schedule today at 11:50 and they said I was scheduled at nine but got no phone call got no email got no notice and they are not willing to reschedule for three weeks this is a pain institution and people who go here are clearly in pain let one of the office staff be in pain and then be told three weeks out is the earliest they can get you and see what response you get! because of thier schedule mistake it has now been close to six months since he has been able to get relief from pain I recommend you find another doctor .. read more

I was a new patient who started back in June I believe. My prior physician had been giving me injections in the facet joints. I came to this office and Dr. Bahta jumped right on doing them in the SI joint which he did. However the majority of my pain is in a different part of my back. I went in for a follow-up for that procedure and to discuss the new injections. I was asked to email my prior records over and I would receive a call to discuss how to proceed. I never got that call. It took a call from me and me resending the records to ensure they were there. That was the second time sending them. Still no call. I called again and a message was sent to get the assistant to call me. Still nothing. I then sent the assistant 2 emails asking what was going on. Still nothing. No response. No effort being made to help me. I'd think also that new tests would be needed since it's been since 2016. But no, didn't do that either. As of now I have no relief. This office is subpar. Do yourself a favor and find another office. I've never been treated this badly before. read more

Dr. Mitchell has been my pain management doctor for 7 years now. He is an excellent, compassionate physician. He listens and works with you to make the best possible plan for treatment. He follows through. Until recently, the staff was less than optimal, and I had some pretty awful experiences, but Dr. Mitchell has made major changes and now the practice works very well. My PA's name is Lauren. She works closely with Dr. Mitchell and she is also bright and caring. I am thankful to them and the rest of the staff. read more

The fort desk lady's are amazing at helping with any problems you may have. Also, the office manager has helped me twice now with insurance issues. She went above and beyond to help. If I could put less than one star I would! Dr. Ved Aggarwal is the rudest person I have ever encountered. After waiting 3 hours to be seen I was subjected to a litany of rude comments by the doctor. I have been calling for 4 days leaving messages to try and get someone to refill an Rx. Not only will no one call back but when I do get someone on the phone they are rude. They will not refill an Rx without seeing the physician. However, they are unable to schedule an appointment for 1 to 2 weeks and I wasn't asked to schedule an appointment after my first visit. I will be out of medication before then and there is nothing they can do about it. Also, on my first visit, the treatment plan was to include pain medication. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE QUALITY OF CARE AND PATIENT SATISFACTION? While the office staff was on the phone with me she stated "they should have asked you to make an appointment for 8 weeks follow up" (btw....I only received 30 days medication). So, someone isn't doing their job! I have never been treated like this before by a physicians office. WORST STAFF EVER!!! Impossible to get a phone call answered by a live person. Everything goes to voice mail. Not once has anyone EVER called me back. Only by calling everyday, every hour did I reach someone to schedule an appointment. I was kept waiting for close to 2 hours to see the doctor. I am scheduled for a procedure this Wednesday and was told to stop taking my blood thinner for 4 days. I had to get clearance from my cardiologist to stop and called TPI to ask them to call my doctor. Again, no one ever answered or called back. I went there in person, took a letter telling them to get my the okay from my cardiologist. Have not heard one word back from them. I called my cardiologist and was told to stop for 2 days, not 4. If I hadn't called my own doctor, I would have been off blood thinner for 4 days increasing my chance of a serious problem. I have called the office manager and am still waiting to hear from her. I won't hold my breath. It is inexcusable for this kind of mistreatment and incompetence. read more
