I had recently learned of Bowenwork and was not having good experiences with chiropractors. I have…read moreall kinds of spine issues from my tailbone up through my neck (C2), and needed to be adjusted regularly. I did Bowenwork in my area for a few months and then moved to the greater Austin area. I thought I would go as long as I could without any body work, but after a few months I found it increasingly difficult and painful to raise my legs for each step going up to my 2nd floor apartment. I could see that if I didn't do something I was going to have a particularly difficult time getting into my apartment. I found Jessica from the Bowenwork Academy's "Find a Practitioner" and saw that she had taken all the courses and had more than 500 hours of Bowenwork experience. After 3 times of going to Jessica, I realized while I was quickly and easily going up the stairs that I was not in any pain! It just happened so naturally, I didn't notice I was doing better. Jessica has also worked on my jaw (TMJ), my neck (weak voice), shoulders (tight and painful), pelvis, knee, wrists, lower back, hips and feet. Afterwards, I have to sleep and allow the Bowenwork nudges to awaken my body's healing response. Really, I wouldn't believe it, if I didn't experience it every time. And Jessica has a sense of what is needed, and how to address it. She expects a change, and adjusts what she does, if it's not forth coming. I have also had a session of therapeutic, restorative movement (not sure what she calls it - using special balls for self massage) and that session relaxed my muscles so much that again I had to sleep. Jessica is not in this business for the money. She tells me what I can do to help myself at home. She told me where to go to get the balls and how I could find the videos so I could work on myself at home. She could have all that in her office and mark up what is already really expensive, but as I said she's a body worker not a shrewd business person out to make a buck. Jessica is an honest, true healer. I highly recommend going to her a few times and then see if you really do need a chiropractor.

I have been seeing Jessica for almost 3 years, after being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer…read more She has incredible knowledge of the body and how the myofascial can hinder or assist the flow of blood (and essential nutrients) into all parts of the body. You can tell her process works as she is working on your body - you feel sort of releases in different areas as she is working on you. I feel that my cancer treatments are more effective with the relaxing of the myofacial. She has such a intuative nature, knowing what questions to ask in order to really understand your pains. Every appt begins with many questions of pain level, areas, levels of pain - then she begins treatment fully aware. I am so thankful to have found Jessica.

I was never pushed past a reasonable point, and I was even allowed to re-arrange certain exercises in the routine if I needed to. Kelsey + Micah were my treatment team, and they did a fantastic job! Micah in particular listened well and gave a thoughtful answer to every question I threw at her. Everyone is really encouraging! The front desk staff and all the techs are also really nice. The techs scurry around making sure everyone is on track with their routine; they also constantly keep the place wiped down and clean. I really liked the environment at this location, too. The music is motivating instead of annoying, and not too loud. All the patients came from diverse age ranges, backgrounds, and abilities -- so I felt like everyone was made to feel welcome. Note: Give yourself a few extra minutes to find the place. The entrance is off of West. (That is not where Google Maps had taken me...)

I am a fan of True Rest floats. The float experience is absolutely wonderful in terms of stress…read morereduction and a general feeling of calm well-being, and the atmosphere at True Rest, both before, and after your float, enhances that feeling. In my recent visit, I tried their Vitality Suite, which consists of a combo of infrared sauna, red light therapy, and a cold plunge. The attendant was very nice as she described the process. Unlike the float, which has an automatic timer built in, the vitality suite experience is one in which you are expected, or at least encouraged, to watch the clock. I wondered whether 45 minutes might actually be too long, but it was not. Not at all, actually. By the time I showered, got heated up in the sauna, and got myself into the cold plunge, which is very, very cold, the clock said I was 36 minutes into my 45! Since I had seen no other customers, I didn't think anyone would be pounding on the door, but still, I felt constrained and not relaxed at having to watch the clock. I tried the red light therapy, but felt no sense that it was doing anything for me. Maybe my cells were regenerating without my knowledge. So back into the sauna, then back into the cold plunge, and by then I was well over my time. When I was showered and dressed, I saw the attendant had just come to check on me, but I didn't really feel any time pressure, except what was self-imposed. But that still made the experience less relaxing than it should've been. The elegant one-person sauna was nicer than the one I use at my gym, and the cold plunge was much colder, which was bracing. But overall, I was not especially impressed with the vitality suite since it is pretty much what I already do at my gym. I would come back and pay the pricey price for floats at True Rest, but the vitality suite experience did not work for me.

I went into this experience expecting to love it - I got the pure silence I craved…read more The facility was very clean, and I felt comfortable being there. The float itself was good, a strange sensation, but I can see why people love it (especially after a few times to get used to it). My biggest problem was that the light switch inside my pod didn't work, and that triggered a little bit of my panic reflex. I ended up cracking the pod open a couple times to calm myself down, and that detracted from the experience.
