I was diagnosed with an ACL tear from a soccer injury and my Dr. wanted to get it operated ASAP. PT wasn't even discussed as an option. I had difficulty walking and had several delays getting a second opinion as well as MRI approvals from the insurance company. I was able to get a prescription for physical therapy, since I had decided not to go into surgery until I tried PT and got a second opinion. I was also months away from my wedding and the idea of limping wasn't exciting at all. My MRI said partial tear, but I wasn't getting better 2 months after the injury( no PT done yet). I was recommended Symmetry by a friend who had a partial ACL tear diagnosis and he was doing sports without ever having gotten surgery over a year past his injury. I didn't really think I was going to get better on my own and I was worried I might be doing further damage by just walking on it, so I started to go to PT. After a couple of sessions I was already feeling much better. The whole staff was very welcoming and Lily makes you feel at home. I was fearful of trying to do things with my injured leg at first and Lily helped me regain my leg strength by adding exercises throughout each session. She was not only good in providing exercises and helping me deal with some of the residual pain from my weakness, but she also made the PT sessions enjoyable. Their whole staff is very friendly and professional and I felt like I was truly being cared for. After around 7 weeks of sessions weeks of sessions I'm feeling much better. I regained my leg strength and I don't even notice the injury in my day-to-day. I started jogging and I'm going regularly to the gym. I'm extremely grateful to Lily for helping me get my life back. I have had physical therapy many times through the years but working with Matt Grieringer is the best experience I have had! I went there at the recommendatioun of my doctor who said many of his patients had good response at Symmetry. I'd had increasing pain and instability in my knees to the point that they felt like they were about to give out. Matt has been spot on tailoring an exercise and stretching regimen that has radically increased the strength and flexibility in my hips, legs, glutes, abs and joints that support and align the knees. No more pain or pushing off to floor to get up from a squatting position, No more having to reach for something to hold onto when I sit or try to stand. Now my knees and hips are able to do the work and I am pain-free. My sessions start promptly. Matt emails me my at-home exercises with clear instructions and demos. Matt understands that it is unrealistic to overload his clients with pages of exercises that would consume more time or energy than a person can realistically provide. He assigns me a few focused exercises and stretches that I was doing once a day. As my strength has increased, he removes the beginner exercises and adds one that is more advanced. I have graduated to more challenging ones that I now do once every other day. Matt is an excellent clinician and a great coach! Dawn handles all the billing and insurance seamlessly as well. I've played soccer and other sports for several decades, including on teams with Julie and her husband. There have been lots of minor injuries but only one requiring surgery. Julie has helped me with ankle and knee sprains as well as an ACL reconstruction rehab (couple dozen Physical Therapy visits). She does a thorough interview to determine your baseline and asks about how things are progressing every time, so the treatment is personalized. She has a good knowledge of how the body works and will always take the time to answer questions. To me, that's a very important role for a PT. You'll have much more time with your PT than you will with your doctor. The pre-op PT visit was very helpful for knowing what to expect from my ACL surgery, which is considered routine by doctors and seemed major to me. She has a good knowledge of exercise progression, which is important to rebuild strength without injury. You don't want to be overloaded or waste your time. I've heard horror stories about painful PT experiences in other places, but I've always felt better coming out of this office than I did going in. I haven't been treated by Matt, but from talking with him a bit and observing him work he seems to maintain the same high standards. And Dawn is friendly and professional, as well. read more

Going to symmetry physical therapy was an amazing experience, and I wish I had gone to see Julie years ago. I've dealt with debilitating chronic pain for most of my life, and previously I had mostly learned to just cope with it and move on with life. After going to see Julie for something I thought was unrelated, I learned that a great deal of my pain was due to me just having forgotten after so long how a healthy human body is *supposed* to move. I was extremely nervous before my first appointment because I was in so much pain, and I expected that the therapy itself would be substantially worse before anything got better. I was thrilled to discover that with Julie's expert precision and attentiveness to feedback from me, most of the work was actually *less* painful and far more effective than anything I had tried to do myself. In just a few appointments I had substantial relief, and the issue was completely resolved in a matter of weeks. But even more than this, I learned so much about how to move, walk, sit, stretch, and even get up out of bed properly that every aspect of my day to day life is now more comfortable than it ever was previously. I had a nagging shoulder injury for over a year which caused me pain during most activities. I was disappointed when my doctor prescribed therapy, as I didn't believe it would help, and I almost didn't go. I was proven completely wrong by the incredible staff at Symmetry. Not only have I made a 100% improvement with my shoulder, I've been able to improve on other deficiencies in my body that I didn't know existed. Lily is hands down the best therapist I've ever worked with. She is extremely professional, knowledgable, and a joy to interact with. I especially appreciated her willingness to explain how all of the different muscles/body structures interacted and worked together. This shed a great deal of light on how bad habits, and neglecting some of these muscles can lead to problems in the future. Best. P-T place. EVER. I went to Symmetry because my sister-in-law had a hip replaced and needed a reputable P-T office. Her daughter researched the various ones in north Austin, and this on came up with fabulous reviews. I have personally been to 2 different P-T locations for TMJ and leg problems, and both places did more harm to me than good... I'm not usually one who looks forward to P-T, which I call "Boot Camp," because I have significant medical issues which prevent me from exercising much. Well, much to my surprise, the P-T mild exercises really helped everything. I was even able to stay & work through a migraine for the first time - ever. I saw my PCP for neck, upper back, shoulder and shoulder joint pain. After the examination, he said I needed physical therapy to strengthen those muscles. I contacted Symmetry Physical Therapy based on very positive reviews. After my PT, Brad, did the initial exam and assessment, he explained exactly what was causing the pain and how it could be corrected. He worked on those areas and the pain started to ease. When I left after about an hour, I was free from pain for the first time in a very long time. With each visit, it was the same. He also gave me exercises/ stretches to do myself at home which I do faithfully. It took time for these areas to get damaged so I understand it's going to take time for them to strengthen and heal. But I'm hopeful now that the time will come. I recommend Brad to anyone suffering from muscular pain. read more

I have seen Julie Mankinen several times over the years for different injuries, mostly due to sports. She has always been a great help to me. I have seen many Physical Therapists in my life but never one as good as Julie. She always seems to understand exactly what my problems are and she knows exactly what to do to fix them. She does great work with joint manipulation/body work and follows that up with exactly the correct exercises that you can do at home. She is extremely knowledgeable and is very easy to talk to. She will always tell you what she thinks and takes the time to explain things to you. She has a great "bedside manner". I highly recommend Julie to you. Honestly, Symmetry is as good as it gets! I messed up my shoulder, got surgery and (as a 25 year old guy who wanted to go back playing football) was very careful in choosing a physical therapy provider. Based on a recommendation from a friend I chose Symmetry over any of those on the list given by the surgery centre. Julie, Dawn & Matt were a pleasure to deal with from start to finish! The chats with Dawn when you arrive are worth a visit without any PT! They're always bang on time, explain everything you need to know really well and update an online portal with your assigned exercises each week. After enduring several months of chronic foot and leg pain, I decided to call Symmetry PT, and I am glad that I did. I am so grateful to Julie for her time, the physical therapy sessions, and home exercises she recommended to help improve my balance and coordination and relieve me of the pain. I can not say enough wonderful things about Symmetry Physical Therapy. When you enter Dawn the receptionist is very friendly . She is very knowledgeable and helpful. I am seeing Brad Bevil PT DPT Therapist for 5 weeks and will continue for another month, I injured a tear of Right Rotator Cuff and Contusion of Right Hip. I am having very difficult time walking without pain or using a cane. Brad has helped me thru the painful days and help me to understand what is happening with my injury and and my recovery. Brad is very knowledgeable, gentle,friendly, and professional. The Symmetry office is bright, clean and comfortable. Watching the other therapist they all seem very caring. Symmetry is by far the best place I've had physical therapy. I was referred for knee pain from a 20 year old injury. Lily was very thorough during my evaluation and explained how the back pain I'd lived with for 30+ years was a contributing factor with my knee pain. I didn't say anything, but at that point I became very doubtful that I'd see any improvement due to past experiences I'd had getting physical therapy on my back at other places. I was so wrong! My knee pain was gone well before my last visit and and my back pain was reduced to occasional tightness I can relieve with a stretch Lily taught me. Awesome experience! I was treated at Symmetry Physical Therapy for about 2 months for two concurrent issues, one in my ankle (a jogging injury) and one in my shoulder (from walking a big untrained dog). Julie paid close attention, not only to those issues, but to other possible physical problems that might relate. She found and corrected a misalignment in my hip that was easily the root cause of weakness (which led to injury) for both areas. I am now realigned and getting back to activities I enjoy. In addition to knowledgeable and competent therapists, everyone is very welcoming and friendly, the environment is comfortable, and the equipment is diverse and varied to meet individual therapeutic needs. Julie was my third or fourth PT over more than ten years, dealing with chronic back issues. In my judgment, she has been the most effective of all of them at getting exactly what my problem is (poor pelvic alignment) and prescribing the exercises that really have helped reduce my pain and avoid recurrence--I hope--in the future. The manual therapy adjunct feels great and seems to help fix the problem. The on-line web site for exercises is a big improvement over what I have received from past PTs: copied pages of stick figure people with scribbled modifications. Office is friendly, appointment systems offer text reminders. Great service; I will go back and recommend to others without hesitation. read more

Julie is a top-notch physical therapist. She devised a plan for me when I was suffering with pinching lower back pain. I honestly believed that I would have to learn to just live with it, but Julie assured me that if I stuck with the exercises that I would get relief. And she was right. I was diligent about keeping up with the exercises, and the pain is now gone. She's very knowledgeable in her field, a really nice person, and doesn't keep you waiting in the waiting room either! The facillity is bright, well run, and efficient and you just can't ask for a better PT than Julie Mankinen. I highly recommend Julie Mankinen. As a physical therapist, she's the perfect combination of knowledgeable, authoritative, and caring. I actually looked forward to my appointments with her, & always came away feeling better. She also sends you an email with the home exercises she's given you, complete with illustrations (& videos!) in case you've forgotten how the heck that exercise was supposed to go. I recently broke my foot and the limping around messed up my hip. I had worked with Symmetry before for a damaged rotator cuff and had great results (100% recovered) - so I went back for my hip. My PT, Lily, was really good at listening and diagnosing the problem. She combined therapy during my visits with simple but very effective exercises I could do at home. My hip has recovered fully and I'm happy to be fully mobile again. The key to success is to do the exercises at home - your PT can only do so much during the visits. I hope to stay healthy going forward but I can recommend Symmetry completely - they are 2 for 2 with me. read more
