DWS Fencing - Residential fence in Magnolia, TX

    DWS Fencing

    (14 reviews)

Built fence & deck. Meticulous, perfection-driven, obsessed with details, hard workers, fast…read more This is a family business, with dad and two young adult sons doing the hard labor, and mom handling the business end. I have what you could call a "special needs" fence, deck, and yard. Electrical lights and outlets on the fence posts, an extra wide gate in the rear for bringing in a washing machine one day, removeable deck panel for access to AC lines, wanted the deck built on concrete blocks instead of chopping post holes into my driveway and live oak tree roots, pet turtles in the yard, and a koi pond that it was essential to not disturb the filter or plumbing or connections. Other companies didn't understand what I was needing, argued with me, or didn't speak English. But all DWS said was: Yes, yes, yes. My experience with contractors is that they're bulldozers, and I fully expected my yard and items to be trashed. Not with DWS. They carefully removed the electrical and then replaced it on the new fence posts - everything works. I had cleared the space as well as possible, but there were still items they had to move. All my garden décor, windchimes, turtle pen, etc. were preserved and neatly set where I could find them. Best of all, there was no damage to the pond, plumbing, or garden. They even did some "extra" things, like haul off pots that were too heavy for me, and trim a few branches on a baby tree. They didn't start too early (no morning noise to bother neighbors), and they wrapped up mid-afternoon. They use quick-set cement, so they can dig a post hole, erect the post, and then add rails and pickets all on the same day. They worked incredibly hard in July heat, and finished job a day early. Cleaned the driveway, sidewalk, and yard of all debris. A few things should have been hashed out better ahead of time. Type of gate hardware and locks, pergola / shade cover, retaining wall, moved the fenceline in 6" (made my yard smaller), cutting a limb off my precious live oak tree. Luckily, some of these were discussed the day before install, and were able to make last minute changes, with price adjustments where appropriate. The price for about 100' of cedar fencing and two modest decks was a gasp moment - but in line with other companies. The 50% deposit was daunting, esp for an outfit I knew nothing about, but it's in line with industry standards. Plus, they didn't ask for it until the week before install. Easy on-line pay, good communicators. The finished fence is sturdy, beautiful, and pickets all straight along the top. They hide the gate hinges for a neat look. Decks are exactly what I asked for. As an example of detail, a portion of my deck goes around the oak tree. Instead of cutting a circle out of the deck to accommodate the tree trunk, they cut the boards into pie slice-shaped wedges, so the boards fit around the tree like a pinwheel. ! This had to take amazing engineering, measuring, and cutting. Folks, there was no need to do this. This is a small deck in the back of the yard that's going to be covered with lawn chairs and potted plants and no one will ever see (except me). I can only think they did this out of obsession with detail, and had fun with the math and logistics. When they left, Dan shook my hand and told me he offers a 150% guarantee. Indeed, as the summer went on and lack of rain caused the fenceposts to shift and the gate started sticking, they came back twice to make adjustments. There's more good stuff to tell, but I'm hitting the word limit. Bottom line, I couldn't be more pleased with the people, quality, workmanship, and professionalism. You will be, too.

When researching fence companies, I bid my project out to several local businesses using the exact same specifications so I was getting an apples-to-apples comparison. DWS came in with the best price. When I requested a change to the original project scope after starting, they were transparent about the additional cost and provided a timely and fair change order. They were hit with multiple weather events, which delayed our project and subsequent projects they had on the books after ours unfortunately too. Despite the delays, Dan never rushed anything or cut corners and got the job done right. They operate honestly and would recommend to anyone looking to install a new fence.

Zach installed a culvert, new fence, solar automatic gate, built a 2 acre pond, 1x barn, 1x barndominium, an outdoor shooting range, multiple RV pads, and developed/built a road network to tie all these together. I won't use another company and I highly recommend Zach and Aggieland Fence. Edit: I've used Zach numerous times since my previous post. I felt compelled to write another positive post and highlight that Zach is a problem solver. He solved a land irrigation problem in a matter of hours. Aggieland Fence is fantastic!

Then they gave me a quote onsite that did not have much information other than the total price. Being a new homeowner I did get a couple of other quotes which were much more detailed so I called them back to ask a few questions so I could compare. First, I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone number and the mailbox was full. I didn't have an email address either so I had to send in a request through their website and ask someone to call me. When he called back, I mentioned a different quote as an example to the detail I was asking (if the wood they would use is treated cedar) and he immediately said it sounds like a price thing for y'all and we are doing big jobs right now so if you like the other company I suggest you go with them. I was so caught off guard and just said ok I guess we will do that. Needless to say they did not seem like they would be very helpful to someone like me who does not know anything about fences and may need to ask some questions. No amount of being busy should call for that type of customer service.

Dean was great to work with, responsive, and provided timely updates as to when they would be able to come out and get the work done. Communication was 10/10. They had to schedule us out a bit to get the work done, but we didn't mind as fences were down all over the city due after the storm. They dropped off the fence materials the day prior, and got all work done within the expected time frame. Used quality cedar, that looks way better than the stuff my neighbor's 'guy' used. You can see the difference. Amazing work, will definitely use again.

One... the fence was not level with the gate and two... when you close the gate it sags to the point where it hits and does not self close. I contacted Dean regarding this and he stated they would come out that week to take a look. They never came and after almost two months of trying to contact them, I have given up. I have emailed, texted, called, and left messages but they refuse to answer. Really sad because I would have given them a very good review initially and probably recommended them to friends and clients. I would not recommend them. Thanks - paul

We still have a "punch item" list that hasn't been fulfilled now in February 2022. We did stained concrete floors & were left with boot footprints in our stained concrete floors, and black sharpe marks were they drew the outlines of were the cabinetry was to be placed. We were told the cabinets would cover it. Nope! It didn't cover it at all! Instead they attempted to scrape it off & add more color to it! It's absolutely hideous! The blue stain is coming off (I couldn't figure out why I kept having blue on my feet)! They refuse to take our calls & flat out have been ignoring us. We also have items that we paid for and never received! Still fighting them on that as well. (PEX Plumbing Manifold and Five phone drops). We ordered fiber glass doors (of which we paid for) only to get wood doors which are now warped! We were told they look like wood but that they are fiberglass. Fiberglass does not warp which was the whole logic in ordering them in the 1st place! We did oil rubbed bronze fixtures throughout the house. We noticed the garbage disposal button was silver & pointed it out. They spray painted it saying it was replaced! Not! It completely peeled/flaked off and is silver! In the master bathroom we have grout stuck on the tile that was never removed upon completion of the job! David, the salesman has come out to our home, took photos of our grievances and said he would get back in touch with us. NOTHING has been resolved! If I could give ZERO stars, I would! Do not trust them with building your forever home. If you have any questions, please let me know! I will answer all your questions and send more photos! Do not get ripped off the way we were! We worked hard in building our dreams & this is what Milcreek gave us!
