This company is the worst. I bought a groupon and once purchased I was required by Texas Winos to then pay a "tasting fee" of $75. Talk about a bait and switch! Then our guide was a half hour late and after we hit the road he did not advise the driver that we had a second pick up spot to pick folks up. They were stuck waiting for over an hour. We didn't get to the first winery until 2 hours later. The whole experience was terrible. read more

My boyfriend an I took our first trip with Texas Wino's yesterday and loved every second of it. We got tickets for the double decker boat which was awesome - food, slide, etc. It was a gamble, as we didn't know who else would be on the boat but the others were so great! My husband and I took the wine tour to the Hill Country, we had a great time and loved all of the wineries and the lunch at the restaurant was amazing! Jim was our tour guide and he was fun and kept things moving on schedule. The music on the shuttle bus was also so much fun! He took lots of pictures, so that we had lots of pictures to have of our fun day. We were on a shuttle bus, which was the only downfall, we were cramped and it was hard to talk to people around you. Purchased two tickets for $72, and was charged $720! Email was sent saying an error was made, spoke to Richard on the phone right before boarding the bus and they have yet to give me a receipt for refunding the charges 8 hours later. Was told I would get an email in 15-20 minutes stating the amount of refund as I requested. The company sent me two other emails of other tour offerings, but not the promised email of amount of refund. Very upsetting that this mistake was made in the first place and still no detail of how it's going to be rectified and totally unprofessional. While the tour guide was very nice, he was not helpful at all in this situation. He told me to look up the 800 number on the website. I asked if he had a manager that I could call and he di There is zero reason that a Business can't send proof to me of the amount being refunded. Had a good time on the tour but this had definitely put a negative spin on the outing. Update- difference of tour and overcharge was refunded but this was not what owner Richard "Wino" had promised. Woohoo! I've done a tour with Texas Winos twice now. We did an Austin to Fredericksburg wine tasting both times. The first time we had a BBQ lunch and the second time we had an Italian lunch. I purchased the passes on Groupon both times. It brought down the price significantly and made the tour extremely worth it. Most other tours to Fredericksburg from Austin can get really, really pricey. The second time I went, the charter bus was a little crowded but it was still comfortable and fun! The bus also showed up almost 20 minutes late. Luckily the pick-up spot was at a Spec's so we were able to buy snacks and use the restaurant while we waited. Texas Wino's let you bring booze on the bus too. Our guides were very nice and helpful, always offering to take photos. I would definitely recommend this tour. Check it out on Groupon! read more

A group of 11 of us celebrating a 50th birthday purchased the groupon and went on the 80's tour over the weekend and had a blast. The bus was very comfortable (bathroom a huge plus) and the bbq lunch we had at our second stop was absolutely delicious! I was concerned at first with it being seven hours long, but we stayed on schedule and still had the night back in Austin to continue to party. We have used Texas Winos three times now and each time has been a fantastic experience. The guides always go above and beyond to make sure that we are having a good time and make sure we are on schedule to make sure we get to experience all of the wineries and tastings. My fiance and I got engaged on one of the tours in March and Richard went above and beyond to make our special day perfect. When going on the tour take make sure you bring snacks, water and any other booze you want and get ready to sit back and relax. Enjoy the moment and get to know the other guests on the tour because once the tour is over its like they are family. We did a college roommate reunion weekend and this was the perfect way to spend a day catching up, laughing, relaxing & drinking tasty wine. Our guide, Matt, was so friendly and knowledgeable. The catered Italian lunch at the second winery was DELICIOUS!!! One of our girls can't have gluten and there were several items that were labeled on the signs as GF that she could still have (they even prepared a GF dessert!) We were very impressed with the entire day from the nice, clean bus, the knowledgeable guide and staff at the wineries to the delicious lunch & awesome wine tastings. It was a great day! Tips: *Occasionally, you can catch Texas Winos on Groupon. (We did! Yea!) *You can bring food & beverages in a small cooler (lunch tote size-ish) on the bus. Bring snacks just in case...and in our opinion, you won't really need to BYOWine(or whatever...) b/c there are so many tastings included in the price and opportunities to buy additional glasses if you want to at the wineries. Bring WATER in the cooler! *Bring cash to tip driver/guide at the end. All of the wineries we visited accepted cards for purchases. *DO THIS!!! I was extremely excited when I found this wine tour company because I absolutely LOVED the wine tour I went to in Napa. I came to San Antonio to visit my friend for a few days and we decided to book the Italian food/wine tour for Saturday, April 17, that went to Fredericksburg. That was also my last day in Texas. At the meeting point at 11am (meeting time), the bus was still not there. The tour guide was going around getting our names and had informed us there was an issue with the bus, but should be there shortly. Finally, a bus shows up a little later. We get on and there's a couple left outside because this bus was not the bus that was supposed to take us, it was smaller. The couple was pissed, as they should be. It was apparently their anniversary and they had taken time off work for this tour. However, the tour guide kept talking and waiting outside with them until a different bus pulled up to try to get some of us to go into that bus, it was for the bbq/wine tour. No one wanted to switch, as was our right since we specifically booked this tour. Instead of just starting the trip, we wasted an hour trying to figure out what to do with this couple. So closer to 12pm, we finally start driving to the first winery. Unfortunately due to the time delay and the fact that our bus did not have a bathroom like it was supposed to, we were even furthered delayed. We took an exorbitant amount of time there, and it took forever for that winery to serve us our first glass of wine. At that point, I was already over this awful tour. It started late and we did not have any wine for a while on this supposed WINE TOUR. We went to a couple more wineries and apparently couldn't go to the last one due to the time wasted. It was disappointing and annoying, to say the least. On top of that, my friend had reached out to the company ahead of time asking for a time range of when we should get back, and with that information that came directly from Wino Tours, we purchased tickets to a comedy show that was in the same plaza as the meeting point at 7pm, literally walking distance. Even after skipping one winery, we were still late coming back which then made us late to the show and we missed a good chunk. Our tour guide had told us in the beginning of the tour, before the bus even moved, that the company would somehow reimburse us or do something to rectify the situation. After almost a week, we did not hear from Wino Tours. My friend emailed them, since their listed number doesn't work, and there was no response. I emailed a second time, crickets. I sent my third and final email on Wednesday, May 5, which was 2.5 weeks after the tour. Finally, that day, Richard Wino sent us an email back saying he had emailed us the week before, but would email us back that evening since we didn't receive it. Both my friend and I didn't get anything the week before and we even checked our spam/junk mail. Then the next morning rolls around, and no email as was promised from the previous evening. Unfortunately this company seems pretty unprofessional and does not care that their customers were very unhappy with this tour. I did my due diligence to try to handle this directly with them, but it apparently is not important enough to them to reach out to us. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a wine tour in Texas to NOT use Wino Tours as the tour company. I wish I didn't waste my last day in San Antonio with this tour. It was the biggest waste of time and money. It made me leave Texas with such a sour taste in my mouth. If I could leave Wino Tours 0 stars, I would, but that is not an option. read more

Our wine tour was in Fredericksburg, near Austin, where we had the opportunity to visit four wineries. Chris, our guide, was both knowledgeable and entertaining. The first time we were supposed to go to Lake Travis wineries but there wasn't a bus or something, so we went to Fredericksburg instead, which was fine. Then they gave us a free tour to make up for it, which was took to Lake Travis, and it was the trip of Murphy's Law: there was a huge traffic jam that the tour leader didn't know about so we were late, the food was terrible, the bus got stuck, we missed a winery because of the lateness, then they stopped to let off some jerks in Leander while the rest of us just wanted to go home. They said they would give us another free event, then when we asked for it, they balked and we never heard back from them. read more

I was pleasantly surprised! After purchasing a Groupon for a wine tour, I checked reviews and read about some bad experiences. I can't believe those were about the same company, because it was a really nice. The coach bus was clean and comfortable. Everything went according to schedule. We were treated well at every vineyard, had our own tasting area, and met the owners. Best of all, we struck gold with Christopher as our Guide. He is detail-oriented, funny, attentive, and easy-going. He made sure everyone was enjoying the tour, personally checking in with each couple and group. I recommend the Fredericksburg tour with 6 course Italian meal w/wine pairing. And I highly recommend any tour with Christopher, Guide extraordinaire! read more

I've been on 3 tours with them. Here's my honest opinion. Don't use this guy. He cancels trips and will give you a credit for future use, but he's impossible to get a hold of. I bought a groupon and can't use it because after 6 weeks he's sporadically responded to 1 or 2 eamils but won't setup the tour. The tours are fun if you can get on one, but with no way to contact them if you have any problems you're just out of luck. Also I agree with many other reviewers. When you meet up everything will feel very disorganized. Usually your tour guide isn't there. I've sat in a restaurant for 2 hours waiting for the guide and bus to show up with no communication. Eventually they did and it was fun. There are a lot better tour companies out there that will actually respond to you and not leave you out to dry if you have a coupon or something. If you buy one of his specials, good luck ever being able to use it. read more

We purchased out trip through groupon and we had everything go thru one person so setting up the date and time was super easy. Before the trip we got emails on exactly where to be and when, it seemed super organized and we were ready to go. We got to Coal Vines a little early (we came from San Antonio) and they were super gracious and let us use the restroom before they even opened. The food was good and the only complaint I had was there was only one Coal Vines employee that seemed to know what was going on. The bartenders kept telling everyone there was open seating and the manager was running around trying to catch people and tell them where their group was. Other than that it was a great start and the mimosa was so good we opted to buy a carafe for the table. We got on the bus and it was comfortable. We were one of the last people on our bus and had no problem sitting together as a group. The restroom on the bus was a plus and meant we didn't have to wait in line at the wineries for that. The first winery was Torre Di Pierta and was the best set up of all of them. They had bars just for the group and we didn't have to wait forever to taste. The guy doing the pouring was personable and knowledgeable about the wines plus being a lot of fun. The second winery was good, but they had us sit the whole time and came to us with the wine. It was fine, but felt a lot less social. We had a group of people, so were content to just hang out with each other, but I would imagine that singles or couples would have had less fun on this one. The second winery also had alternatives to taste if you don't like white wine which was great and we ended up buying one of those alternatives. The third winery was Spicewood Springs and I thought the least organized of the three. I was a little disappointed because this was the one I was looking forward to. They had no alternatives to the white wine and wouldn't start the red pour until everyone for through with both whites. You had to stand in line for every wine and by this time there were a fair amount of tipsy people, so the posed a bit of a problem. It was still a good experience and the site is beautiful, but they didn't do as well as the other two in my opinion. The bus ride back to Austin was a blast with the radio up and people singing and dancing in the aisles. We had a great time here. All in all we had a blast and would definitely do another tour with this company. As warned it does get a little rowdy so if you are looking for a quiet day it may not meet your needs, but no one was obnoxious or rude and everyone seemed to be having a great time, including our group!! read more

We had such a fabulous time yesterday on the wine tour! We decided to go last minute with a group of six other friends, and Richard was more than happy to make sure we were on their same bus for the day. We packed snacks for the bus which helped us get through the day considering all the wine we drank! The wineries were crowded, but it was a beautiful weekend in Texas after so much cold weather, so that was expected. The bus driver played music we had all requested, which resulted in a fun bus ride home with lots of singing and laughter! Richard was an excellent host the entire time, and made sure everyone was happy and comfortable. My husband is just starting to enjoy wine and find different types that he likes, and he enjoyed the day as well! All in all, it was a wonderful day with friends, beautiful weather, fabulous wine at local wineries, and the best part was...we could enjoy the day and didn't have to worry about driving to all of these places! Hi there My boyfriend and I went on the first brewery tour this business hosted. Yay. It was amazing. Richard was great. He set an awesome tone to the tour. By the time we finished the first brewery everyone was getting along, chatting, laughing, and sharing whatever alcohol they brought with them. The music was awesome. The breweries were great. The jester king brewery was ok but I preferred the other three. Everything was awesome. Majority of the group got to feeling good and we were all singing at the top of our lungs on the way to dinner. Dinner was great. Richard did a good job of the tour and having some fun with us. I really felt like Richards job is a dream job :) he definitely gave us more than what was expected. We're so excited to return for another brewery tour with all our friends and some wine tours. Definitely recommending Texas Winos to everyone. Do you consider yourself a humdrum, run-of-the-mill, extra unordinary person, seeking no fun? Well then this tour is not for you. However, if you're someone who enjoys good wine, good people and good fun then, my friend, you are in the right place! Being that I am a particularly amazing daughter, I booked a tour for my father and myself on Father's Day. We moseyed on up to the bus a few minutes early and were greeted by our friendly bus driver (Steve, was his name if I recall correctly) and soon after by our terrific tour guide, Richard. We graciously received some fancy-pants wine glasses for the journey and a lovely souvenir bag and wine-opener (lucky for me since I brought my dad nothing other than a wimpy little card). Soon we set out on our adventure. We were well prepared thanks to the website info and the email sent out a few days before letting us know it was ok to bring some snacks and drinks for the ride. I would recommend this so you don't start eyeing your tour-mates as potential lunch entrees. The ride out to the winery was positively gorgeous! People on the bus were starting to mingle so the air was filled with excited apprehension. The good thing is that the ride was just long enough to really enjoy the scenery but not long enough to warrant the "Are we there yet?" question of doom. We arrived at the first winery and settled right into the first tasting. Our tour was light enough so that we we had plenty of time to hear a bit about the wines we were drinking and even get some questions in (good knowledge bombs to blow the wine snobs outta the water back home). BBQ of epic proportions was served shortly after the tasting and my was it delish! With our tummies filled we were able to wander about to take in the sites. Then it was off to the next winery. There was no rush from winery to winery and at each locale Richard was ready and waiting to snap some Hollywood-esque photos if we so desired. On the ride home it's fair to say everyone had loosened up a bit (gee, I wonder why? *wink wink*) so the the bus was a bit livelier. There was laughing, dancing and somehow it seems the trip back to Austin was about half the time. Before I knew it we were back downtown and snapping our final group photo and saying farewells. Was it was I was expecting, no. It was so much more. I'm pretty sure I was just bumped up to favorite daughter status but I'll keep that hush hush so as not to burst my sister's bubble. I have every intention of bringing everyone I know (well at least the ones I like) on this tour at some point. From what I hear our tour was quieter than most so if you'd like to chit-chat and get to know some neat folks I'd recommend this type. As for me? I plan to try them all at least once. read more

Beware...This company does not respond to emails, calls or refund requests. I've been on about 4 tours with Texas Winos and in the past they have all been great. It wasn't until this year that everything has gone downhill. If you're thinking about buying one of their groupons, or any of their sales, coupons etc, think twice. I was apart of a group of 20+ people who tired to schedule a tour and it was a nightmare. I, along with other people in our party, tried numerous times to call, email and confirm our booking. It wasn't until the night before that I got a confirmation email that I was on the tour. I think only the owner Richard answers emails/calls, and he must be having a hard time keeping up because he couldn't ever get back to me. Aside from the poor communication, our tour was a bit of a mess. Only 40 minutes into the trip to Fredericksburg our bus blew a tire and we were left on the side of the road for almost 2 hours. Our tour guide did his best to call mechanics, other buses etc but no one would respond. He also tried calling Richard but he never picked up. Once we finally did get our tire fixed we were rushed to a winery, spent a very short amount of time there and then rushed to a restaurant where we spent a long time waiting for food. We had been scheduled to eat lunch at the beginning of our tour, but it ended up being almost 4pm before we were eating. We got in one more winery and were back around 7pm (1 hour later than expected). Our tour guide was great and promised us that we'd be getting a 50% refund.... The next day a few friends from the tour emailed Richard and got a response that the tour guide was not authorized to give a 50% refund, but that they knew they needed to make things right, and asked for a day to come up with something that would work for everyone. That was the last time we heard from him. I sent an email asking about what could be done, expecting at least one winery tour tasting to be refunded since we skipped a winery. It's been 2 months and I haven't heard anything. I've left a message on their facebook ads and my friends have all sent multiple emails. Dead silent, and yet they still push their ads for tours/groupon deals, and I still receive automated emails about sales etc. What's worse is that I feel awful for even recommending them at one point. I had another friend who went on a tour a few weeks after my tour, or attempted to, and the buses never showed up. They waited there 1.5 hrs for nothing. She never got a refund, and she had to dispute the charge with her bank because Texas Winos would never follow up with her. All of this is quite ridiculous... and although I like the services that Texas Winos has to offer, I don't believe people should be treated this way. This is not how you do business. read more

Just got off the Fort Worth Texas Wino Tour this weekend. We knew it would be great when our driver, Louis, greeted us outside the bus with a big smile and his famous "hot diggity dog" slogan. Adam our guide was very warm and personable even though he was from San Antonio. Their chemistry clicked and made it a fun time. The day just went so fast. I was lucky to be in the front of the bus and had a great time commiserating and joking with these two interesting guys! All I can say is "HOT DIGGITY DOG"!!!!!!! Would not even give this place a 1 star. Company STOLE my money. Had no problem continuing to make his money scheduling more tours every weekend. We had a tour booked for November, in which waiting 2 hours for a bus that never showed up. We were promised a refund (and a voucher for a new tour). Yeah that never happened. Nobody answers the phone or replies to voice messages or email. I know even Groupon has reached out to this company with no response. I can see from other reviews, I'm not the only one. I'm so angry that he continues to bring in the big bucks every weekend, and has screwed his previous customers. Unacceptable. I hope someone puts a stop to it. read more

An afternoon three stop winery tour with your own bus driver? Yes, please. Worth the $90 and sometimes you can find deals through Groupon as well. You get to travel almost as far as Fredericksburg, which is a beautiful drive. We went to Fat Ass, Woodrose and one more (I forget!) and they actually fed us an amazing Italian dinner at one. We did an '80's themed trip for a friends birthday though there was another bus with us that did not have a theme, so whichever you prefer. Give it a shot! read more

Richard canceled our trip to Wurstfest the day before it was supposed to leave due to an overbooking with the charter bus company. Completely understandable, and he offered refunds. As it was the last weekend, and I was unable to go on Sunday, I requested a refund, and he stated arrangements could be made. That was over a week ago, and he has gone completely radio silent despite numerous follow-ups. Reneging on this offer of a refund is completely unacceptable, and I would urge everyone to not do business with this company. read more
