If i were in San Diego or pulling into Haleiwa it's understandable...but Surf City? North Carolina? I was near insanity, but too close to the shop to turn around. With the infuriating anger building I decided they had one chance to get my business. And it was slim. And what happened? Great, comfortable, friendly customer service. No pressure sales. Two days later and I'm back ordering a board from them. It's a nice little shop with pretty much everything you would need. Be sure to check out the consignment section...saw a cosmetically beat but great condition Hawaii Pro Designs longboard sitting in the back, in addition to a variety of short boards in varying conditions with varying prices. George is awesome. Send him your business. I've stopped into most other "shops" in the area and been brushed off, leaving me feeling like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (minus the prostitution). Lesson to other shops in the area...don't judge a book by its cover - you just missed out on $2k in sales this time around (not to mention future business), as I'll never go back to your establishments.

They probably have the best selection on the island and have an awesome selection of surf and body board leashes. The only problem was the past time I went I wanted a wetsuit, but they were all sold out and hadn't ordered new stock with it being mid April. Understandable, but I was bummed that I couldn't give them my business.

Mike, the owner is welcoming and helpful. He's not working for some nameless chain. He's working for himself and he looks after his customers as friends and family. I got tired of buying stuff at the other shops that lasted about a day and the first time you wash and they fall apart. Went into Cape Fear with my family one day and never went back anywhere else. We come back to Holden Beach every year and this is the only place we shop. And when my kids are older and have families of their own, I expect they'll do the same. Stay away from the other surf shops with cheap T-shirts, cheap shoes, cheap swimsuits, and everything else cheap and overpriced. Cape Fear Surf Shop and Mike is the real deal.

We started in the women's shoe section which is in the back of the store. As we moved through the clothes section, we were followed by a sales associate that never asked us if we needed assistance. She literally just stood there following us around the racks hovering and shadowing my every move. It was very uncomfortable. She didn't even try to pretend to straighten up the clothing . Neither one of us had pockets or a bag large enough to even fit a piece of clothing into so I can't even understand why we were targeted like this. It's very disappointing! We will not return. I recommend that the owner of this store work on training their staff to better oversee their customers in a manner in which they're not being profiled.

In February, I had a full golf bag fitting with Michael. I had never been fitted for clubs before…read moreand it was a fantastic experience. He was very helpful and patient as I am not the best hitter off of simulation machines. It took about 4 1/2 hours to do the full bag and he was as positive at the end as he was in the beginning. He kept me apprised of the status of the clubs as they were being built. The quality of the clubs is amazing and it has already improved my handicap by over five points. They also have a nice referral program, which was honored when I sent a friend in for a driver fitting in March. Michael is very good at fitting, customer service and follow up. Their program is super helpful as it allows you to come in after you get your clubs for additional insights on your swing and how the clubs are performing. They also will do any adjustments as needed. Highly recommend
