Not what I hoped for…read more I was visiting Oslo from the USA and thought it might be cool to check out an "American" BBQ joint on the 4th of July. WDS makes a big deal on their website about making reservations and what it serves large groups as the try to have enough cooked meat on hand. I was traveling solo so I emailed the week before to make sure I could get a table- no problem they said. When I got there the had to check if seating was available though the restaurant was half full at best. Service - The guys handling the seating sounded American but were not particularly friendly or welcoming. I'm pretty sure by my voice and appearance they knew I was from the States, but made no comment. My actual waiter was fine - friendly and attentive. Food- Shame on me for ordering a burger at a BBQ place- should have had the brisket. Still this smoked burger was undercooked for my liking and not particularly flavorful. Maybe their other barbecued meats are phenomenal-don't know. They promote themselves as a southern bbq experience-one wall is covered with a mural of the USA south, highlighting the regional bbq's. I have had better food and hospitality at dozens of bbq joints throughout the South. I accept part of the blame as maybe my expectations were too high. Just feels like an opportunity missed. All the local diners seemed to be enjoying themselves so they must be doing something right?

Enjoyed the friendly host, the tall drink of water who also took my order and with gusto. Also enjoyed the blue-haired server with a nice smile, that in turn, made me smile. As rare as the eclipse, but almost as beautiful unless you stare at it for too long. The spicy burger, whose name I won't pretend to know how to pronounce, was very good. Spice level was just about right (for me) so probably 'quite' spicy for mere mortals. Accompanied by the onion rings with its own dipping sauce and a beer with the best logo I've seen for a long time... it was a mighty fine afternoon. Though the burger was fantastic, it wasn't quite enough for me to remember it for the rest of my life. Would I eat here again? Certainly would. Can I recommend it to burger aficionados? Definitely. The tables are a bit close, and the place is pretty quiet - so we got to participate in the awkward "first date, and it's not going very well" on the table next to us. I wished they'd had more hoppy beer, as I enjoy something crisp with heavy food. The beer selection seems a bit random, a lot of dark beer. Happy to get a Founders Breakfast stout, but sad they didn't have any hoppy beer that I like. As so often in Oslo, the beer was a bit old - but stouts can handle this better, so the taste was still ok.
