My shoulders have been stiff for a while. Today I had a massage with a Thai lady, named Oy. It was great. She concentrated on my shoulders, upper and lower back, especially on my knots on the shoulders. I really loved it when she massaged my hands and head. The head massage was the best. I didn't want it to end. She asked if the pressure was too hard or too soft while she was massaging different parts, so don't be resentful, just tell her your desired pressure. I'm going there again for sure. Maybe only a foot massage next time. I want my feet pampered for an hour. She offered a hot tea after the massage as well. It soothed me even more. Let me start by saying I get a lot of massages, and have tried quite a few places around Honolulu, some good some not so good. I have a stiff neck and tight calf's so needed a good massage. I had tried Thai Banyan before, once, the place is new and appears clean and I was worked on by Jen. Jen was excellent, very good. I highly recommend her. Because Jen was so good I decided to go back, Jen was not available at the time I called and could go so I was worked on By Nina, who also answered the phone when I called. Nina asked what kind of massage I wanted and I explained (as I had with Jen) I have a stiff neck and leg so i wanted "deep tissue" sports type massage. Well what I got from Nina was that she only walked on my back and legs all while she was taking calls from customers booking appointments and talking to others therapist who open the door to my massage room and Nina was continuously leaving the Massage room and leaving the door open while I am on the table! Yikes. Now for the BAD part, she ONLY walked on me, never used her hands and HURT me. It now feels like my small bones in my left foot are broken and she hurt y left Achilles from her weight on it! At the time I yelled out in pain and all she asked is if I was OK and kept going. Well she is the worst I ever experienced. More Worst she never touched my neck!! I had to ask her close to the end of my very interrupted hour to please do my neck (?). so she said 'OK' and added ' I no do your arms then' (thanks) So what does she do? she has me sit up and she walked on my neck (!?!) as her weight bent me in half!! I am actually hurting now. It gets worst, It hurt so bad I called the owner the next day (Saturday) to tell him what happened and how much I hurt. He was very defensive and really did not care, he was told me that Nina is his BEST and MOST experienced Therapist and that she always asked if the pressure is OK. He had a very uncaring attitude...I told him I have never called a Massage place to complain and I was only doing so to help him and give feed back. He told me no worries. NO WORRIES, what the heck, He then said I could go get an x-ray if I wanted too and bring it to him or have the doctor call him!?! This guy is no good. also the parking is validated but I went around 8:00 PM on a Friday night and the lot was packed, had to circle a bit to find parking, very tight stalls. Surprisingly...by far my worst experience at a spa... This is the run down of my experience... - Th room wasn't ready... - I asked for a Sewdish massage, which I thought was a technique, but to this girl it meant lathering me in lotion - 5 minutes into the massage someone else was in the room talking to her...seriously?! Rude. - She asked me where I had tension, which was my neck and arm, and proceeded to rub lotion all over my legs for majority of the session. - In the end she asked me if I wanted a hot towel....and then wiped me down with a car shami...I don't think you can sanitize those! The worst part is after my maybe 40 minute massage (paid for 60) the owner actually laughed when he asked me about the massage and said the therapist I had needed to be trained more to be brought up to par. I am a massage therapist myself and have experience with many different modalities of massage, as well as working in various settings (spa, chiropractic, clinics, etc), and aside from the 'just okay' massages I've received, the service was just plain rude. I originally purchased a Yelp deal ($50 for a $70 massage) but when I got there, saw a lomi lomi special $49 for 60 mins, so decided to do that instead of using my deal. I was warned that every therapists does lomi lomi different, and I do understand that since I am a therapist myself. However, the massage I received I felt was literally rubbing oil on my body. There was zero pressure, no checking in, nothing. The second time I went, I decided to use my deal and get a deep tissue/deep swedish massage. This therapist was not bad, but very inconsistent with pressure. A friend made the appointment for me and we got there just in time, so got taken in right away. After the session we asked if we could use our Yelp deals and they said no, because we're suppose to let them know before our appt started. The one therapist Tanya was super rude about it and made me feel like I did something wrong, saying "you should have done it out of courtesy to us." Dude...how the heck should I know?! She made me feel even more tense than before I received my massage. These therapists not only need more training on the different modalities they offer, but also customer service. My massage routine consists of a fifteen minute massage from my employer once a year. Yup, I can't say I'm a connoisseur of massages. However, I have been to Thailand and had my share of Thai massages. I like how Thai Banyan had local masseuses. I signed up for a 60 minute Thai massage and 30 minute foot massage. They led me into a room without any instructions and left the room. I didn't know I was suppose to take it all off and get under the sheet. ALL. OFF. Sure is different than practices in Thailand, where they dress you in traditional Thai massage clothing. I have to also say I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to a massage. My masseuse was tiny but boy was she strong! I'm sure she could have taken me down without even trying. She was pretty intense, I think she found all 206 of my bones with her elbow. Check that, 200...she didn't search for the three bones in each of my ears. JK. This place is great for those who love intense massages. read more

I was relieved that their receptionist spoke English. My friend warned me to make my first visit in person because the person manning the phone is difficult to understand. The girl who greeted me was super sweet and although from Japan, she spoke perfectly! She is an ideal first impression. Helpful, patient and service-oriented. Ambiance is okay. I liked the soft fragrance of lemon grass - lavender in their rooms and it seemed like they use real wax candles. Their beds are heated and linens fresh. They absolutely need help from a professional interior designer. Walls are nicely hued with soft neutrals but the bamboo hutch they use to display their merchandise is less than appealing. They need to buffer inter-room noise. I found it bothersome to hear the full conversation from the next room. The straw flowers glued to the walls of the massage room are a distraction. And please! Do not leave an oversized version of the artificial flora on my bed. I had no idea what to do with the scratchy blossom when i got under the sheet. Thai Banyan has four rooms: three singles and a room with two beds for couples massages. I was assigned to Rachel, a highly skilled and experienced massage therapist. Her previous work in the Colorado ski resorts gave her the knowledge to work out the damage I've created from years of high impact sports. Her technique leans on precision more than chi. i appreciated her low level voice and ability to apply the heavy pressure I adore. In the end I was satisfied with Thai Banyan. I went in to find a therapist I can afford to visit twice a month and I found it. It might not be fancy but the staff is pleasant and skilled. Best massage I've ever received! Came across this place by accident when I was eating at a restaurant across the street. Walked in and they were able to do a couples massage on the spot. First time I had Amy, and I swear she has the hands of a goddess. Can't go wrong with Tammy or Nina though. They're all great and you're going to walk out a happy customer. I had a Thai/deep tissue massage. First timers get a rate of $60 and then $70 each time after. I'm now a membership holder which is the way to go! Comes out to about $50 each time and I go every week or two. Great customer service! They offer tea or water while you wait and they have a shower in the back if you want to shower. Been going here for 3 years now. Monthly membership is the way to go. Nina is the owner and is by far the best. If she's not available the others are good too. Amy is my go to for a deep tissue/Thai combo massage. Ask for Nina's new "tap tap" technique from India. It's a method developed over 2,600 years ago. I tell you I've had lower back issues and neck issues and after she did this method it was the best I've ever felt! Don't knock it until you try it. They validate parking and making an appointment is easy. Getting a gift certificate is easy and is a great idea for a loved one or friend. As other Yelpers posted, its not simply a "massage", but really has a lot of stretching and adjusting as well. I ended up extending my time, because it was so relaxing ! not the experience i was told i'd have..... I came here two times and both were horrible. I purchased the Yelp deal ($50 for a $70 massage) but when i arrived, there was a special $49 for 60 mins lomi lomi so i did that instead (i came with a friend who also did the same thing). When i was brought into my room to change out, my headrest was WET! and the sheets felt like as if they weren't changed. i told my massage therapist and she apologized and changed them out. During my session i kept on feeling water drip on me (no it wasn't the lotion because water was dripping on my back when she was working on my leg). When it was time to pay, the manager apologized again and gave me 15% off my services and a stamp card that gave me 15% off 9 more visits. The second time i came back (i had the yelp deal that i needed to use, the same friend i went with the first time accompanied me again) I had the hot stone massage which wasn't that great. I felt like she was just gently rubbing the stones on my body and at one point she burned me with the stone! When it was time to pay, i told her i was using my yelp deal and she said they don't honor that here. WTF? so i showed her my yelp purchase which hadn't expired (i literally just bought it a month ago) and she said she couldn't honor it because i was supposed to let her know before my session had started that I was going to use my yelp deal. The way she went about saying it was SO RUDE with tons of attitude. What difference does method of payment make in service? I cannot say enough great things about this hidden gem! This massage establishment is conveniently located in a strip mall type of lot. There are so many awesome and great places to eat right next door but that'll be a different review. Parking is convenient and I have never had an issue being able to find a spot as there is a rather large lot and they do validate for free parking! I've been here a few times with my boyfriend. We get couples massages with Tammy and Amy. These women know exactly what they are doing and their technique is impressive and most importantly I feel incredible for days. I personally always ask for Tammy. I've gotten another masseuse before but Tammy is a keeper. She has given me the best massages I've ever had in my life so I will be devastated when I have to move away. Lol She is very friendly, asks plenty of times if you prefer more/less pressure, engages with you during the massage to ensure you are comfortable and always asks about trouble spots which she always dedicates lots of attention to. Hot tea is provided at the beginning and end of your massage and that's a bonus to the already great service and very reasonable price of 60/Hr. They will gladly stay open later than 9, I believe the first time we came in we strolled in at 10 and walked out at 1115. They only had one masseuse in but they happily called one in to take care of both of us. That is great customer service and bending over backwards for clientele. It has obviously paid off because I come every two weeks. I was floored when I originally saw the not so great reviews but I'm confident that this was due to poor management in the past. This establishment is clean, professional, has heated bed toppers (if you're constantly cold like me this is a huge bonus) and coupled with the already mentioned fantastic environment makes this a real treat every time I come. Just found this awesome Thai Massage. I've already been here a few times for the limited time I'm on the island. The first time I walked in, it was like I was entering a upscale spa at a 5 star resort. It was relaxing & beautiful . The massage tables were comfortable and had soft sheets. I've gotten massage on poor tables before and that just ruins your experience. The staff was friendly and offered me water as soon as I walked in and after the massage. I chose to get deep tissue Thai massage both times and was impressed on how well each girl's technique was. Dont remeber their names since their english wasn't good.
