Although it calls itself Asian Cuisine, it's predominantly Thai cuisine - however there are a few dishes of other cuisines, like GadoGado (Indonesian), Chicken and corn soup (Chinese), Takoyaki (Japanese) and Teriyaki (Japanese). The menu is really quite extensive, and there is a long Specials menu with some fantastic dishes. Some of the highlights of the Specials menu is the Salmon Lover (grilled salmon in thick red curry sauce with crispy basil), Red Galanga Fish (deep fried fish with ginger and vegetables) and Spicy Duck Adventure (spicy stir fried roasted duck with chilli, garlic, basil and vegetables) The Red Duck Curry is really delicious with lots of fruit in it - it's strange how fruit like lychee, tomato and grape go so well with red curry and duck. There's also a Thai favourite on the dessert menu, Black sticky rice with coconut milk! YUM! Red Galanga also has lunch specials - Take away for $10.50 and Dine-in for $12.50 and a choice of stir-fry, curry and noodles. It was on one of these nights we decided to try out a new Asian restaurant - Red Galanga. This was actually well over a year ago, around the time they changed the name from 'Red Ginger' to something a little more exotic. We were immediately drawn to the Salmon Lover - a thick cut of salmon that is juicy and always perfectly cooked, served with an assortment of delicious Asian vegetables with a mild creamy red curry sauce. The vegetables are particularly great in this fresh and filling meal, as they are served beautifully crunchy and always bright and fresh in colour. No sogginess here! We were also enamored by the Crispy Duck - succulent pieces of flavoursome and LEAN duck with of course a fittingly crispy skin, sliced atop a bed of more crispy vegetables, served with a thick teriyaki sauce to drizzle over. We generally order 'enough rice for two' and enjoy layering the two dishes atop a bed of rice. They taste surprisingly tasty mixed together, and I have been known to save the left over dregs of Salmon Lover sauce to enjoy with fresh rice the next morning. :3 There has not been a time we have ordered from this place and not ordered our 'usual'. I know we should broaden our horizons and sample the other delights on offer, but these dishes are just SO GOOD! Something to note - wether we are picking up take away or are sitting in enjoying the ambiance of the simple but elegant and clean restaurant area, the food has always been presented with the same level of skill and care. Staff are always very friendly and accommodating, and the food is generally prepared very quickly (around 20 minutes from ordering). This is an absolute gem of a restaurant, and I encourage you to try it out for yourself.

The Bowls Club has incredible views of the city and all the facilities on offer make for a wonderful night out. First things first, the Thai food is amazing. I like my Thai HOT and the staff almost always get it right. My partner is very picky with ingredients and they always go out of their way to please. The dining area overlooks the bowling greens and children are free to go outside and run around. The area is well lit and you can relax and enjoy yourself, while the kiddies go crazy. The food is well priced and comes in large portions. My partner and I share an appetizer and a mains and come away completely satisfied. After dinner you can proceed into the Bowls Club itself. They offer a full bar, pool table and a nice relaxed atmosphere. The Club has it's busy nights, but generally it is nice and quiet. The decor is super retro. I don't think there have been any renovation work here since the mid-70s. I love the Club for this alone. The staff in both the restaurant and bar are friendly and really look after you. We sat down and our menus were brought straight over. After much discussion about sharing and who wanted what, we had come up with a lengthy and complex order which always makes me a bit nervous because restaurants can be prone to messing those up. I needn't have worried because the food came out after only a short wait and nothing was missing and everything was tasty and authentic. We all agreed that it had been a successful meal and that we'd picked the right restaurant and ordered well. We thought the staff and service at Thai Terrace had been far above average and that the prices were very reasonable (especially once we split the bill per head). I was furious. They then called back and told me that it was because the shop was 'closing early and their earlier statement had been wrong'. I am apparently getting my money refunded but according to them it will take 2-3 days at the very least. Due to my illness I have set times that I need to eat and set times that I have people available to help me get to and from places to get what I need. I was careful to order so there was plenty of time for them to be able to get my food to me in time, usually they take 30 minutes, which is amazing, but 45 minutes and then I am just told that there will be nothing? Now I am stuck at home, alone, incredibly bloody hungry without the right food to take my medication. Now even if I do find somewhere else to order from it's going to be a good hour before I end up with anything. Bad form guys, total and utter bad bloody form. I've noticed an increase in popularity (or a mainstream discovery, perhaps) of banh mi in Brisbane in the past couple of years. Previously banh mi cravings were sated by trips to Kim Thanh bakery at west end, or numerous spots in Inala and Sunnybank. But now Brisbane CBD has at least 2 spots to get a tasty (albeit CBD priced) banh mi for lunch. The Roll Shop (Vietnam On The Roll) is the latest banh mi venue, and slightly less pricey than the orginal provider of banh mi to the inner city population, Little Saigon. You've got a few options for banh mi fillings at The Roll Shop, and the menu board tells you the kilojoules of each of your options... this is both good, and bad... it helped me make a slightly healthier decision with my lunch choice, however it permanently scared me off the pork crackling banh mi that I probably would have chosen if I wasn't aware of how kilojoule heavy it was... So I chose the sweet glazed bbq pork option. The roll was light and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside but didn't seem super fresh. The filling had all my favourites - course textural pate, creamy mayo, pickled carrots, coriander, and firey birds eye chillies (optional) but the pork was a bit of a dissapointment. It was cold, rubbery, and all around bland and meh. Maybe it was my deep burning desire for pork crackling that made my choice so underwelming, but I really didn't enjoy the pork at all. I removed it from my roll and happily munched the rest but overall was disappointed by my lunch. If I visit again, I'll definitely consider the pork crackling version more seriously.... but will it be worth a 30 minute spin class at the gym? I'd probably cry if it wasn't! Other options at The Roll Shop, if you're not a banh mi fan, include rice noodle salads, and rice paper rolls. I've not yet tried either of these, but they seemed to be popular amongst the lunch crowd.

The Roll Shop offers fantastic and pretty cheap Vietnamese rolls (I'm a fan of the chicken). I can also recommend the cold rolls available, which are equally delish. There are a few seats available outside but it is a pretty small space and there are not a lot of seats. Overall I thoroughly recommend this place if you're looking for a great lunch, reasonably priced in the city (Located in the laneway between the HSBC and NAB buildings).
