I got a massage here on Monday evening. A woman answered the door right after I rang the bell and asked if it was me. Ambiance: The place is very small. There's a waiting area and it seems like they only have one room with two beds. Definitely seems like you need an appointment to get in. Service: My masseuse, Pum, had me take my shoes off and brought me into the room, prepping things as I got ready on the massage table. It was comfortable and the room looked nice and relaxing. Someone in a previous review said the street noise was distracting, but I thought it wasn't bad. She played music which I thought was loud enough without being overpowering. I opted out of the stepping because I know my body can't handle that. It's nice to have that option and I made sure that I told her before she started the massage. She also asked about areas to focus on and I said my upper back and shoulders (where my knots are). Massage: Pum used warm oils which I love during a massage! It had a menthol kind of smell which was perfect for clearing up my congestion. She used different techniques to massage such as with her fingers, knuckles, hand, and arms which I appreciate. The last massage I got the masseuse kept pushing my back so I'm glad this wasn't like that. She also focused a lot on my upper back and shoulders and got my knots out. Thank you!! I even enjoyed the stretches she had me do. I haven't worked out in over a month so I'm pretty stiff. My favorite part though was the hot stones! I've never had hot stones during a massage before and it was heavenly. Pum made sure the temperature was perfect before applying them to my back and neck. I was willing to try something new and Lotus Bodywork offered that to me, plus the peace of mind of other great reviews. Not to mention a consistent, reasonable price at $70. The building it is located in is no frills and the massage room is no frills either, but I wasn't looking for that anyway. The masseuse applied oil and consistent pressure and techniques that weren't conducive to a relaxing massage but left my shoulders and back feeling great. Had a lovely experience here with my boyfriend for a couples massage. It was both our first times getting a Thai massage. I did a little research on what it would entail but was very pleasantly surprised by the entire session. The massage takes place on a hard raised surface with a thin cushion over it. Movements are more stretch oriented and felt really great as I've been super tense from working at my computer all day. There were normal oil/lotion portions as they do during "typical" massages. If there were any recommendations or changes that would improve the experience, i would recommend to get noise-proof windows. While the hour long massage was super relaxing with light music in the room, you could still hear the noises outside (more than just sirens) like talking and minor honking. The two masseuses were very pleasant and ensured we knew everything that was going on. They asked if we wanted to focus on any specific part of the body before we started and accommodated to any injuries or problem areas. Went to the uptown location, we were expecting a professional spa setting but the bathroom was outside of their business space and really dirty. I had thai massage in Thailand many times before and this was by far not even close in terms of technique. Of course it costs at least 5x as much as in Asia. They will step on your back with their feet and use oil, which was not a traditional Thai massage. I wouldn't recommend this place. I got a 90 minute "deep tissue" massage--it was not a deep tissue massage. She did some traditional Thai massage stretches, but I honestly could not tell if she was professionally trained. It was definitely relaxing to lay there but I did not get the relief I wanted. Especially on my back, she barely got underneath my shoulders and was just trying to lososen up my body by very gently shaking my shoulders. The website makes it look legit with all of the lengthy descriptions of different services, but don't fall for that. The building is also extremely sketchy. Thai bodywork is definitely its own style... more intense, almost like deep stretching assisted Yoga... at some points it felt awesome, at others, awful. Blows away all the massages I've had at spas and chiropractic places. The space was neat, clean, and comfortable with music and comfy beds. You don't take your clothes off and change into anything so be sure to wear something thin. I requested my focus to be on my shoulders and back so he paid special attention to those parts but everything was worked on thoroughly head-to-toe. He even cracked my back and oh it felt so gooood! (Small lady with wonderful techniques) -She's the real deal- Authentic, strong spot on thai massage. Incorporates thai traditional massage with chinese massage as well as her knowledge for muscles and joints. You can let her know your trouble spots but just let her work on you, she will figure it out and really crank out those knots.
